When I list thru eBay (such as ebay motors), I just add their counter at the bottom.

Otherwise, all of my normal auctions are listed through sparedollar.com and they have a counter page that you can refresh and view your hits on your auctions. You can also set it to eliminate your ip address so you don't show up as a count on your own auctions.

I just use the Andale Counters that Ebay has available.

Just curious as to why you would want to try a different counter, then what Ebay uses?

So this board inspired me to take the plunge a couple of weeks ago. First I listed a couple of books and ending up taking a loss on one because of shipping costs. Last weekend I decided it was time to start liquidating a collection that was living in my basement. I listed 10 items sold 8 of them and made $600. I still have 20 something more items to list over the next couple of months. I am so glad that I found this board and decided to take the chance. My vacation in October is going to be the most magical ever if I can keep this up.

Thanks Again

Just wanted to let you know that if you receive a suspicious email from what seems to be paypal don't open it, just forward it to spoof@paypal.com and they will check it out for you and let you know if it is in fact a virus. I have gotten several of these emails lately saying that my account is about to expire. Have a great day!:earsboy:

OK, I have a question about DC and the shipping assistant. I have mailed two packages with DC, printed from the shipping assistant. The first time, the PO lady didn't scan it, and when I check the DC online, it still says the last status was expecting me to bring the package to the PO on 1/31. It's not confirming anything! So when I brought the second package in, I told the PO lady (same one) that I had DC and asked if it needed to be scanned. She said "no, not for the ones you print out." Um, OK? So why isn't my stuff being confirmed then??

Many times the only confirmation you will recieve is the delievery date and time, even when they do scan it.

Using the shipping assistant? Because when I did it the old way, I could check it every step of the way - good for paranoid people! :) I guess I'll keep checking - it should be there within a couple days.

I have never done it any other way, just with the Shipping Assistant. There are some times when you can "track" it but as I said many time the only thing it says is delivered at this day and time.

I went to the main po office today (it handles mail for a lot of the Northeast. I asked to speak to the postmaster, and she came out. She said they are suppose to be scanning every on line label, as stated in their rule book. She said that if a package shows you no delivery, you can ask them to go in the back and put in your tracking number, and they will get a lot more info than you get online. But she said the first scan is the most important..because it is your only "real" proof, you brought the package in...online really only means that they expect it. She strongly suggest you also highlight the tacking on the label, so that the delivering mailman will be sure to see it.

Does anyone sell baked goods on ebay? I am thinking about starting this and was wondering if anyone has tried this or is on the process of doing this now.

I'm a great baker and have been told many times that I should sell my wares instead of giving them away. I'm looking at being downsized very soon and will be able to have some time off with the package I'll be getting. I just want to do something I really enjoy for a while and see if it can be a profitable business for me.

I don't plan on becoming rich doing this - I just want to be able pay my bills and be able to work from home to stay with my kids.

I've seen there are lots of experts on this thread and welcome your advice.

Thanks in advance.:D

You might want to check into this more. I am pretty sure you will have to get food permits. Food unlike other items, are heavily regulated.

That said, I wouldn't purchase a food product on ebay or any unknown online website. Just too much at risk.

Keep in mind the delay times too.... would you wait until you were paid before you baked? ANd then how long would it take until you were able to ship? How fresh could it possibly be by the time it arrived at its final destination?

While I admire your ideas (and envy your talent), I think perhaps you should look into a local venue for your goods. Just seems like there would be too many drawbacks (just my opinion, of course) to selling food on Ebay..................P

I personally would look much further into it, as there are rules..although I believe they are lesser for baked items. YOu should have business insurance as well, and of course an inspected kitchen. I wouldn't buy from someone on eBay, not knowing if they are undere any regulations, if they ever wash their hands (and I know we don't know that in bakeries either, but I know where to find them if I have a health issue) or even if they let the cat lick the bowl : )

That said, someone I know sells fudge on ebay with none of the above, and has been wildly successful! She has wonderful feedback, many, many repeat buyers, and has a great business..just on eBay.

I think you can find some of the food rules listed on eBay under the TOS.

I am by no means an expert, but I thought I'd seen somewhere on the Ebay pages that food is a prohibited item.

And while I am 'here' I must ask if anyone else is experiencing what I've been seeing lately. I keep getting Ebay emails (question from seller) for items that were not initiated by me. They will say something like.... 'can you tell me the shipping from CT' and there will be a response "please add $3.00 shipping to NV' Yes, you read that correctly! The answer does not match the question and has nothing to do with me! Just wondering if anyone knows what is going on with it.

I just received an e-mail from a buyer stating the item she bought is not working and would like me to send her a call tag to return the item. I shipped it Fedex Ground. Does anyone know how I do this?

TIA,

Tracey

I would simply call up Fed Ex and ask. I think what she wants is a prepaid frieght tag, so she can send it back.

CPL100--we had something similar about two weeks ago. Got a question from a buyer asking about why one of our shipping things said one price and why the other spot said something else. We didn't have ANYTHING up for auction that week. We didn't respond.

I haven't responded to any of them either. I've had at least a half dozen.
