You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY!!

Any advise would greatly be appreciated.

I am starting to see more and more auctions that are stating that:

"The shipping/handling charges and terms of payment are clearly listed in my auction. If you feel that this amount does not work for you DO NOT BID!! The shipping charges and payment options are as listed and can not be changed for any reason."

Personally Tamie, I think that you wrote too nice of an email to her. You had all the information available to her, she had the choice to bid or not providing if she was comfortable with the shipping/handling costs. She was wrong to leave negative feedback about something that she was totally aware of. She was the b***h.

I try not to over charge for shipping and I do add a handling charge since I have to go to the post office, buy packaging materials, and additional charges incurred. Which you all know what is involved. At the time I posted the items for auction, I even had to buy my boxes as I couldn't find any used (now I have), but they are not cheap to purchase. I included that into the handling charge. Sometimes it is a little more than originally though. Sorry, I guess I am letting that person make me feel guilty, and I know that I shouldn't. Anyways since I am new at this I thought I could get others opinion on this.

You have every right to add a handling charge for the reasons you have stated. I always add a handling charge and I am sure many other sellers do as well. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty for running your auctions as you see fit.....every bidder on ebay has the option to see what your terms are and decide if they are right for them. Just respond to her negative with the facts and I would certainly return the negative to her listing the facts as well. I am sorry for your upsetment, the first negative is always a big OUCH!!

I thought when you listed requirements of an auction, the buyers were supposed to follow the rules. I'm going to agree to what they asked for because it would be too much of a pain to relist them. Is there any way around this???
The only way to get around this is to either not sell or to hold your buyers to what your terms are. I had a buyer send me a check when I clearly stated I do not accept checks, I had to email the buyer and tell them that I would be returning their check, along with their auction item, when I recieved payment in a form I accepted. Buyers are banking on that the seller will conform to THEIR needs/wants to make the sell. IMO, the more sellers who do bend their terms the more buyers who will ask for it.

Thanks Claudia.

Unfortunately, I already left a positive feedback for her as soon as I mailed the item. Maybe I should wait and see from now on.

What does everyone else do?

Thanks for any help...I wouldnt think of trying to get around what the seller required...even if I had misread the listing.

Fortunately most buyers do feel that way. But there are still the occasional ones that just don't care and do as they want...including leaving unwarrented negative feedback. The downside to doing business....

OHHHHHH shoot!!!! But still respond to her negative...and block her too. Yes, IMO you should wait until you receive feedback from your buyer first...then respond. I have started doing it that way over the last several months....I used to leave it as soon as payment was received. I had been reading on the community board at ebay about posting feedback and many had suggested waiting (for the reasons that you have had to deal with) so I decided to change my feedback timing.

As the bubble head boss doll saying goes..."I couldn't agree with you more completely"!!! I have had the same situation and done the same thing.

How long do you give the buyer to make payment before you contact them again? How long before you offer the item to teh second chance bidder, and file NPB?

I am not at the point where I am too worried yet, but just a little. The item sold Saturday before last and the buyer said he mailed M.O. the following Monday. It was only coming from the next state. This buyer has excellent feedback, too. My terms state payment within 7 days, it has now been 9.

Am I being too antsy? How much longer would you give it and what steps, when, would you take?

I am beginning to not like being paid by mail..it seems too uncertain.

Thanks,

Mary

Getting a neg is a real kick in the pants, and I sympathize with you! To add just a bit to Claudia's great advice, be very professional and factual in your response to the Neg.

Your own words will speak volumes about the kind of person you are, and if you are professional, future buyers will see that and evaluate you as such.

Avoid name calling, screaming in capital letters, a dozen exclamation points, etc. Something like "Shipping clearly stated in auction. Handling charge was $x.xx, well within eBay guidelines" may be appropriate (and that may even be too long for the space allowed!). Try not to show your emotions, even though this is hard to do.

And don't let it worry you... after the neg I got last summer, I felt like quitting for a few days, but fortunately several more glowing positives followed it and all was fine.

I would email the buyer today and let them know that as of today's mail you still have not received the money order that they said was sent on ??/??/??. I would wait 24 hours for a response. If no response, you can do 2 things....request their contact info (ebay will send them a notice that you have done that) or begin the NPB process. Ebay will send them another invoice once you begin the NPB....either one of these should get their attention and they should be in contact with you. If not, after 10 days of filing the NPB you will be able to file for your FVF.

It must have changed because there is nothing about needing to stay a member.

That is good, and I hope that is exactly as interpreted. Just be sure, when you do sign up, that you read through the terms. I remember being surprised that I would incur a fee to keep the scale if I ended my enrollent during the free period.

Look again:

29-Day No Risk Trial

Try the service for 29 days with no cost. If you like the service, do nothing and it will continue uninterrupted.

If the service is not right for you, cancel anytime. If you cancel during the trial period, you will not be charged any service fees. (Bold & italics added by me)

I think that you may find, upon doing the actual enrollment and requesting the scale, there will be language saying that the cost of the scale is in addition to any service fees and you'll be billed for the scale if you cancel within the first month.

I'm sorry if I'm sounding like Chicken Little here, and I hope I'm being overcautious, but I think that they are a little misleading about this.

And if I'm wrong, that's good news for you!

Be sure to comment on your negative feedback. I think that there are people out there that just don't understand what feedback means to some of us. I think that negative feedback should be used as a last resort, not as a way of letting someone know your feelings. That is just stupid that she left a negative based on fees that you plainly listed. I received a negative, and I even posted it way back when on these boards. It is also way back on my feedback list because I have so many more positives since then.

But, be sure to comment so that people reading your feedback know that you listed that in your listing.

I signed up last night and there was nothing that stated that if you cancelled at any time that there would be a charge for the scale. And since it was not declared then I am pretty postive they can not charge for the scale or supplies if the memebership is cancelled. If they do try to charge I will contact my CC company and return the scale (I already have a 50lbs scale).

It is good to be cautious and you are right about being sure to read all the fine print though.

HELP.....I just got an e-mail from a buyer who I sold 2 dresses to back in Sept. She just e-mailed saying that her Discover Card was billed twice. I only got paid once. Am I looking at a problem about to come. I just checked my records and the total for both dresses came to $63.00. I had 2 seperate auctions running and she won both. The first dress went for 28.00 and the second dress went for 26.00. I gave her a reduced shipping of 9.00 for both dresses. What do I tell her to do...PLEASE HELP A.S.A.P......

Denise, if you issued her an invoice from paypal the only way she could have been charged twice would have been if she paid twice! If you have paypal records showing only one invoice and payment I would email her back with that information. I would also request her to get you a copy of the statement that is showing that she was billed twice. If she can provide this for you and you have proof of only one payment, then she will need to provide that information to her Discover Card and let them sort it all out. Don't panic....I am sure that this will be resolved with little difficulty.

Okay all you ebay professors!

I have a few questions for you.
Where and how should I list these items...

1) Its a vintage (probably late 60's/early 70's) insert and instructions from a Kitchenaid mixer--its full color, no fading..its like a trifold brochure

2) a receipt for a Crartsman toolset from November 1962. Its a sheet of paper about 8.5 x 11 with stamp type things on them, instead of a register receipt. It has receipt and warranty information in the center with the purchase stamps around the middle. Would this be listed under vintage Craftsman (ie tools ) or under advertisments, or an other category?

3) instruction/directions/purchase packet for a Country Gold (can you say 1970's?) Amana dishwasher. full color, and receipt.

4) I also have five sporting magazines (Grays Sporting News) ranging from 1951 to 1972. Most of the players featured were either college bowl players, (ie Fran Tarkenton in his college years), and there is one baseball issue. This baseball issue feature the 1956 World Series in an article.

Honestly, I was not born until 1970, so I don't know who the "hot" players were then. I have only heard of one the players.. he was a Chicago Bear...

So it is better to list these as a lot, or individual issue, or should I cut them up (GASP!) and sell the advertisments.!

Thanks!

from the late 60's and 70's is vintage LOL? I guess I would have thought the 30-40's! Geesh..what does that make me???

I guess I never realized there were collector's for the rest of the stuff you are selling. I guess I shouldn't have thrown out all my fil's old receipts ....darn!

Well, I have to say I saw something from 1987 described as vintage... I was in high school in 1987!

Where and how should I list these items?

I got intouch with ebay through live help. They checked both my records and the buyers records and confirms only 1 payment to me. The buyer said that her statement shows 2 payments. 1 from paypal and 1 from ebay. Ebay told me that ebay does not charge anything to buyers, only to sellers.....And if she sees a charge on her statement from ebay for her to get intouch with ebay....Then I called up paypal and after they checked, again it was confirmed that I was paid only 1 time...I emailed her and told her all of this. I also gave her paypals telephone number and the website for her to get intouch with ebay(ebay told me to give it to her). I have copies of every email, receipt of payment and just about everything that went with this transaction, thank God. Believe me, if I had gotten paid twice, I would have reimbursed the money. For this amount of money (63.00), its not worth the aggrivation or pain in my stomach, not to mention my nerves.

I'm telling you I feel a chargeback breathing down my neck here. And if that happens, I'm screwed out of the 63.00 plus the 2 dresses I sold....And to top it all off, I gave her a reduced shipping charge being she won both items..

Maybe I'm jumping the gun, I'm know to do that...Maybe she'll email me and tell me all is straightened out and that her charge card company made the error...

I'll let you know what happens, Thanks again

Denise

If all records show you only recieved the money once then I do not see how you can receive a chargeback, it sounds to me like her beef is with Discover Card not you, if in fact she has two charges. Sounds to me like she is out to get free dresses.

That's great! Glad to hear it, and I hope you enjoy the service. If you were a previous user of USPS Shipping Assistant (as long as I've been reading your posts, I can't recall if you've mentioned that), I will be interested to learn how you think they compare.
