Thanks dg39. I was hesitant to give her my reserved, though it wasn't an outrageous amount I wanted. I also had a BIN price. I started by being vague but then gave in. I figured if she was truly interested in purchasing my item, she'd be pleased (or not) with my Reserved amount.

I don't like using reserved prices, but I don't like my opening bid to be too high either. Not only do lower bids have lower insertion fees, but it attracts more looks as well.

BTW - she bought the item at the reserved price. The 2 existing bids were only for the starting bid.

Hi everyone! Hope everyone on the east coast made it through the hurricane ok.

I have yet another questions.

Can you use the electronic delivery confirmation on media mail and first class mail......or is it just for priority? I remember reading it is this post but cant find it now. WOW.....there is alot of pages to look through...lol....

Thank you everyone who has answered all my questions. It is very much appreciated.

Tamie

WDWINJUNE!:

I just sold a ton of used CDs and a bunch went overseas.

I shipped them airmail in a regular bubble mailer for $5.00 ($4.00 for actual shipping and $1.00 for mailer) you can also ship global priority for $5.00. The weight was just under 5 ounces packages with jewel case.

Hope that helps!

Hi Tami, I just checked with usps shipping assistant. Yes you can do everything using that. Del.conf. and labels etc. I used it yesterday for parcel post, using delivery confirmation and label. They even send the receiver the del.conf. # on line. You have to download it and it asks for your company name. I just gave them my regular name. They give you a password and its looong, but its programed in so everytime you go to that site its already there.

Now for me to whine: I have a bunch of items listed and not one bid....

Hi gang..........I just began to sell on ebay a couple weeks ago.......and I put 2 things up to start and neither sold for about 3 weeks then all sudden it's fall and no one is on vacation anymore and one of my items sold for 16.00 more than I listed it for. so........this week i put up 14 items to end on sunday night (like everyone on this thread suggests) and 3 have been bid on already...........I have a really good feeling this ebay thing will work for me..........it's just finding things to sell.

I did have a question............I have a bunch of textbooks from going to college for 2 years and most are brand new or even in the original wrapping.............will anyone buy these textbooks?? is it worth trying to list them...........or should I have thought of this BEFORE school started???? sometimes I wonder about myself. let me know........thanks gang

Have A Disney Day!!!!!!!:smooth:

PrincessMo - I don't know about textbooks on eBay, but I'd also like to know if they'll sell there. DH is finishing up his Master's from Univ. of Phoenix and I've been trying to get a feel if those would sell.

If that doesn't work you could always try ecampus.com. I just sold some of DH's old textbooks to them. (Thermophysics!! Geez.. I can't even spell that. lol)

I would suggest half.com (which is owned by eBay) or amazon.com for the textbooks. It's free to list them and they take a percentage if they sell. I've never sold textbooks there, but I've sold other books and it's pretty easy.

Good morning!

I hope everyone in Isabel's path is okay. I just read someone's post about strange things found in their yard! I can relate. Apparently we had a good storm while I was at WDW last month, and someone's plastic wading pool blew into our back yard!

After finding this thread earlier this week, I started reading and to date am only on page 25 (about May 16th)! I apologize if these questions have already been asked and answered.

Someone mentioned checking completed auctions for pricing guidelines. I looked and looked on eBay, but could not find this. Do I need to register before this information is available?

Also, what is BIN? I've figured out what most of the terms are, but this one has me baffled!

I'm hoping to open an additional checking account this week (it's been too hot to go out at lunch--still over 100 degrees F here--but it may cool down slightly this week), then open a PayPal account and begin listing a few things next weekend or the following weekend. Between work and home renovations, it's hard to find time to do other things!

Thanks for your assistance! I'll keep reading earlier posts and try to follow this thread currently in the future.

Turbolister question - I was putting items into Turbolister on Thursday nite for 10 day auctions when Isabel came thru our area. I was not uploading to ebay, but had my items In my "Listings Waiting to Upload" so that I could just hit the button and upload all at one time. Then the power went out and I didn't get to upload them. If I go in and edit now and make them 7 day auctions will it be correct when I upload to ebay?

BIN is buy it now.

To get to completed auctions, click on search, advanced search, type in what you want and scroll down a little to click on completed auctions.

Oh..and a big welcome to you!!

Does anyone have any ideas on packaging books for mailing?

I have quite a few to list, but chances are they won't go for much, so I don't want to invest a lot of money in the packaging. I'm not sure where I could find enough boxes that aren't too big.

For those of you who have sold books (these are hardcover fiction) how did you pack them?

Thanks.
Tracey

I've seen on other lists, that people wrap them in a plastic bag, and staple them inside corrugated cardboard (folded over). Others mail in bubble envy's, which are often on sale on line.

Okay, thanks to you all I took the plunge. I opened a new bank account at a bank near the post office, I opened a PayPal account. I set-up an ebay seller's account (I already had a half.com account so it was very simple). I listed 5 things on ebay, 3 of which have bids and end in about 12 hours.

What do I do when those auctions end? Does ebay or PayPal automatically send a notice to the winner? Do I need to do that manually? Can I just send a PayPal request for money?

I am so excited and nervous!

(P.S. My DD and I have ready'ed 6 more items to put up tonight when I get home from work! )

HTH,

I just listed 51 items on Half.com. I have sold two already(YEAH). Do you leave feedback right away for the buyers or do you wait until you get paid from Half? Thanks.

Congrats on selling stuff so quickly! I don't wait to get paid from half.com (they pay twice a month). What I generally do is wait about 2 weeks from shipping and leave feedback that says something like "thanks for a great half.com transaction". The way I figure is that with media mail shipping, 2 week should be right around the time the get their item and the feedback is kind of a gentle reminder for them to leave feedback also.

Thanks, DMRick!

Buy It Now makes a lot of sense! :D

I'm going to check out eBay completed auctions for a few minutes whilel I take a short break before moving on to the next project of the day!

eBay automatically sends a notice - Paypal only will if you requested it as part of their seller features.

Hey everybody, just checking in... My auctions have not done that well lately, but I'm still plugging along. Did some more yard-sales this weekend and found some good stuff, I hope.

Glad to see all the new folks on board. Welcome, everybody!
I have recently finished a document that I'm sharing with friends, with all my most important tips. If anyone would like it, PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you. It's a 13-page Word document with links and it has a good bit of the info learned from this thread.

I realize that come January, someone who just started reading this thread in December is going to come a cross this page and it won't be timely... go ahead and PM me anyway... I like PMs!

Doris - hope you had a great time on your trip, and glad to see you're back. I hope C. Ann is doing better!

edited to include request for email address with request for tips document.

I just wondered what everyone does to try to get their buyers to leave feedback?

I've been leaving feedback as soon as I receive payment and ship their item. Should I wait longer?

I've seen where some people don't leave feedback until they've received it???
