You HAVE to try this!! EBAY your way to DISNEY Part 2!!!!

Well, if actually costs are $5.85 would $6.00 or $6.25 be to high???

Would you be turned off with with $7.00 shipping on 3 boys shirts.???

I don't ship anything priority mail unless I can't find a box for it. I get all of my boxes free at the grocery store. I don't include insurance, and I don't include delivery confirmation. I do add a handling fee, and I usually don't break even with listing fees, final value fees, and paypal fees, not to mention tape, envelopes, etc. I just figure I don't make 100% profit.

If you are a frequent buyer or even a seller I don't think that having 2 different Paypal accounts would be a deterrent (is that spelled right?) I know someone who does VERY well with 2 Paypal accts and I think it's a great idea! (one that accepts e-checks/accumulated $$ and one that accepts credit cards).

There are many sellers that only have the first one I mentioned because they don't want to pay the fees & that's up to them but I believe that turns away a lot more business than if you have 2 accts that accepts both. You just have to think of a good billing system so the buyer can pay accordingly. I'm thinking of doing that myself, those Paypal fees can be crushing after a while (I have a Paypal Visa/debit card that gives cashback so that helps a little bit).

I send the majority of my items parcel post unless I can't get it out quick enough, but I rarely use Priority Mail, even though you can use their materials (boxes, labels, etc), it can get quite costly. I do recommend that buyers insure their parcels and I will occasionally do a delivery confirmation. I try to keep a small handling charge in the price but not more than 50 cents or so.

You have set your auctions to start where you think you'll make up of the listing fees, etc. Many sellers start at 99 cents in hopes of having it bid up, sometimes it works and sometimes it backfires. I won't do it because I hate having to pay someone to buy my item after paying listing fees, FV Fees and Paypal fees your definitely in the negative.

99% of the clothes I sell that weigh under 13 oz I ship First Class, cheapest and almost as quick as Priority mail. (sorry for the book!)

I ship what ever is cheapest but give the option of Priority to my buyers, rarely has any one upgraded.

Now that said I do have some stuff that I will be listing in the next couple weeks that I do not have boxes for so those will likely go priority because by the time I buy a box for them it'll cost just as much if not more. I try to save all boxes I can get my hands on but sometimes it just isn't possible.

The nice thing about sparedollar is that free month trial. So if you are planning on doing a bunch of auctions over a couple week period, you could sign up, get them ready during a week and then launch them on a Sunday night. I don't ever use the auto launch on a sunday night. Their servers get really hit and they may not auto launch on a Sunday pm. If you don't like it at the end of the first month - no problem!!! No credit card to input so no worry about them billing you (you can pay them via paypal).

I have not had any problems having 2 pp accts. Normally people send them to the primary one and I have the fees. However, a $100 plus item went to the correct one cause he had available and it saved $$$$. So for me it is worth it to try. If I am invoicing a ton of stuff, I don't even mention the 2nd one. Just not worth the time if I might get one person to use the other one and save me .30.

Just sold my first item on ebay, what a kick. Seem to have gotten a very responsive buyer with excellent feedback. My silly question is this.....they emailed me payment info before I had a chance to send an invoice (only a couple of hours!). Actually I was still trying to figure out exactly how to invoice. Anyway, their payment info is correct and they provided address for shipping - looks like they covered everything. What kind of response should I send? It seems a little late for an invoice. I'm thinking I would just thank them for the quick payment and assure that I will send item as soon as check clears. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

You got it right on the nose! Those payers are like gold!! I still get some of those and I'm thankful for them! I love not having to send an invoice if I don't have to! I always send a thank you after they pay regardless and let them know when I will ship their item.

Once the item is shipped I always send an email "shipping update" to let them know exactly when their item shipped and how (via USPS Parcel Post or First Class or Fedex Ground-I also provide a tracking number if it's available).

It's good business to keep in touch with your customers. I always appreciate when they keep in touch with me!

You'll be cleaning your closets and once you get your house cleaned out you'll start shopping for bargains!! It's as addicting as the DIS just before a WDW TRIP!!!

jgates,

Do you mention both accounts in your auction or just in your invoice? I had it in my auction and took it out.

Hey, people who have two Paypal accounts, where do you mention it? In the auction or in the invoice? And would you be willing to share an auction or invoice so I could see what it looks like?

And secondly - any idea when to start listing graduation type items?

katerkat - you are welcome to check out my auction. It lists right in my description that I have two Paypal accounts. I only have one up right now as I didn't want anything ending on Easter. You could check out my completed ones as well.

Thanks for letting me look! How did you get the links for the two different Paypal sites? Just from old auctions? Oh, and do you do invoices with the same links, as well?

I have a question. I just purchased something off of eBay with a BIN and used my credit card. This was my first time using a credit card to pay for something from eBay. Usually I send in a MO. But I wanted this item mailed right away because its a gift for my brother's birthday next weekend.

Anyway, it has led me to a couple of questions.
1. At first it didn't give me the option to use a credit card. I didn't realize that I had to "add a credit card" to my account. I thought you could just type in the credit card #, etc. like a regular purchase at any online store. Is this true. I debated awhile whether to use my debit card or my Disney visa. I figured using my debit card wasn't a good idea since it potentially could give access to my bank account and I am better protected with the Disney Visa. Right? Can I remove this credit card from eBay payment options now? I don't forsee using it again.
2. I also noticed that it gave me 2 options to pay (before I added the credit card) - one was an instant payment from my bank account and the other was an eCheck. I have had several people pay with eChecks and it takes several days to clear. What about this "instant payment" form bank account (not my paypal account)? Does this take time to clear? Why would anyone use an eCheck that takes days to clear if they could do an instant payment?
3. Once I got the credit card added to my paypal account, I tried to pay for my item with it. But, it first subtracted all of the amount out of my paypal account and then paid the remaining balance with the credit card. I could not get it to put the WHOLE balance on my credit card. I didn't want to pay with my paypal money - that's reserved for Disney!!!! So what I did was transfer all the money in my paypal account to my checking account (special Disney one so I don't spend the money). Is there a way to avoid doing that? I like to have SOME money in my paypal account just in case I NEED to buy something off ebay that only takes Paypal.

Thanks.
Maggie

I put them right in my auction after another diser gave me the html, but it seemed to confuse people, and caused more work for me, so I went back to just putting it in the higher priced listed items end of auction note.

I tried to make my first purchase with a CC. and the same thing happened. I called Paypal to find out and was told that even if you want to us a CC it takes any balance out of your paypal account first. So, to actually use a cc on an entire purchase your account must have zero in it...

I filed a non payment bidder today ...it has been 11 days I've sent 5 emails without any response.

An hour and half after the ebay Non payment reminder I get the following email

Date: Thu, 8 Apr 2004 14:06:38 -0700 (PDT)
From: "JACKIE-O" <XXXXX@yahoo.com> Add to Address Book
To: XXXX@yahoo.com

money order has been sent

I almosted deleted it because the From I saw was "JACKIE-O" and there wasn't any subject...thought it was some sort of Porn spam....any how I decided to open it...good thing..

But my question is...since I have had no previous emails from this buyer, she doesn't bother to put a subject line ...should I take the time to inquire when she actually sent the MO???

Or do I assume she ment today and hope it arrives in the next week or so...and if it doesn't do I continue with the non payment filing and not contact her again?

Quick Question:

I sold a high priced item. I want to make sure it gets to who its suppose to without worrying about getting screwed. SO, I am contemplating sending this item with a Signature Required. What is your opinion on this? I should also mention that I am Insuring it also. Do you think all of my bases are covered?

Thanks!
Kelly

Minor question just for future reference - I sold a bunch of candles to one person, she emailed me the day afer they arrived and said two of the big ones broke. OK, so I offered a refund if she returned them, plus I'd pay half the return shipping (trying to be nice to avoid bad feedback!) She emailed me back four days later and said returning them would be a hassle, so she would just pick out the glass and use them as pillar candles. OK...So I checked, and she left me good feedback (items as described, great product, etc) on all my items - including all the big candles, two of which she said were broken.

So... Was she trying to scam me?

OK, I made up 3 lots of clothing to sell...quick! LOL

One is a set of boys size 8, another 10-12 and some mens pants. Since I want to hurry and sell these do you think I should do a buy it now with them? I don't want to sell short, but I also don't want to wait either. Also, I'd love to get them up today but if I do a 3 or 5 day auction then it ends at a stupid time.
What would you do?????

Bumping....where is everyone? I feel like I'm in some British Airways commercial! LOL

I guess it depends on how fast you need the money. You could get the money ASAP if you have a buy it now but you may get a little less than if you just let the auction run. Do a search for similar auctions and set the price accordingly. If you are really desperate for money, set it at a price that will grab someone's attention but still give you a decent amount.
