You don't drink from the water fountains...do you?

The drinking fountain in the first aid station is awsome! They change the filter often, the water is cold, and they have a stack of cups available if you would rather. Its a great place to get good, free, water in the park!

And, yes, I do use fountains if they look fairly clean. If there is anything in the fountain or it looks like its been a long time since anyone cleaned it then NO I dont use it.

I will occasionally take sip from a fountain although I won't touch bathroom door handles ever. If I can use a towel or my sleeve I'll wait 30 seconds for someone else to open the door. I just can't stomach eating food after touching a bathroom handle... I think I just tasted barf! j/k

If I was at DLR and I saw someone cleaning a diaper in a fountain I would say something along the lines of , what is wrong with you!

Exactly, why would I drink lukewarm tap water from a DL fountain when I can get ice cold filtered water at the Baby Center or First Aid station? For me it's not about the germs, it's about the taste.

i never do drink from public water fountain, never know who's mouth has touched that thing. that's why we always bring a couple of bottles of cold water into the park to drink from.

OOohhhhh... you guys are freakin' me out.... :scared1:

I mean, I KNOW how germy our environment is. I taught kindergarten this year, and let me tell you, 5-year-olds are walking petrie dishes. I've been sicker this year than in the last 10.

Yeah, I guess at some point you have to just realize there's germs and to some extent you'll never avoid them all. I guess I'll just keep that hand sanitizer handy and hope for the best and try not to think too much about it!

Didn't drink from any water fountains in DL. CA water tasted nasty to me, I didn't even want to rinse my mouth with it in the hotel after brushing my teeth. I just ordered that rack of bottled water with our groceries! :thumbsup2

I've seem people washing baby bottoms in some and have seen teenage boys do snot rockets into them as well. Those things will keep me from a drinking fountain for good.

the remote is the dirtiest thing in your hotel--think about what people do in bed, then they reach for the remote and turn on the tv!

yuck... i just might vomit now.

I usually try not to think about it, then I have no problem. But aftwer a discussion like this... This is all I'll be able to remember next time I see a fountain or a tv remote! :rotfl2:

some folks here just make me laugh so i find germsaphobes funny. heres some facts to make you crawl out of your skin

1) on dateline or show like it they showed how the glasses in your hotel room are cleaned. and it was gross to say the least. some of the hotels used glass cleaner and a rag. yeah a rag that the maid staff cleaned the rest of the room wth including the toliet area. others showed them rinsed off and put back into use.

2) hand sanitizer is creating super germs that well hand sanitizer won't kill. basically its an physological good feeling you get from it.

sorry this world is full of germs. i drink from fountains and use hotel glasses.

now back to your regular schelduled topic

I agree. We don't even follow the 3 second rule- more like 3 minute rule! We love germs in our house- LOL! DH, DD6 and I have missed a combined 1 day of work/school in DD's 6 years due to illness. Before that, DH had 460 hours of sick leave banked because he is never sick! We also travel around Mexico and the Caribbean every 2 months. We do wash our hands before we eat and after potty checks but that's it. I totally agree about the super germs. Can you say staph infections??? It's just the beginning of the Purel immune germs!! I chose to build my immune system by allowing in a germ here and there.

Funny topic. Seriously, is this for real? Yes, I use the drinking fountain. Yes, I use public restrooms. I even occasionally touch doorknobs and stay in hotel rooms. It's called life. Unless you want to live in a bubble, you're going to be exposed to germs no matter where you go or what you do. :confused3

I know there are germs but it I think its when one sees someone purposefully do something disgusting where someone else will be the beneficiary of it. You know what I mean? Although I have also seen folks just dump trash on the ground 2 feet from a garbage can. Like HELLO!! what does your house look like:rotfl2: ewwwww!

We drink so much when we are there. We always carry a water bottle and fill it at fountains. Neither my mom or I have ever gotten sick or even better died.
:moped:

How does a homeless guy afford tickets to Disneyland?
LOL...I agree..this guy was probably a celebrity wearing "homeless chic"..
I drink from the fountains..but..more often than not..I buy one bottle of water..and ..reuse with fountain water..I do carry a small bottle of hard surface sanitizer in my bag..and spray before filling the bottle..or..letting my kids drink from a fountain..which they prefer to the bottle..

Me too... I also use ATMs, paper money, grocery store carts, fly in airplanes and so many other items that hundreds, if not thousands of people have touched, breathed on, coughed on or simply looked at before me. Germs are everywhere - there's really no escaping them. Those hand sanitizers are a feel good thing - but really just make the problem worse. Same with anti-bacterial soaps...they just make the bacteria strains grow resistant and stronger. When you check-in to a hotel, do you really "know" 100% for certain that the hotel room sheets are clean? Do you in fact know when the room was last occupied...maybe the maid just remade the bed and moved on? How about that rental car...sure it was washed on the outside, but what about the inside? Do you go to the doctor's office? - there's the biggest germ magnet of them all. My DW hates taking the kids to doc for well checks, because they ALWAYS are sick the next day or two after being in that waiting room with all those sick kids.

I agree with Brenda. I am sure the park is full of germs, so the water fountains would be no different.

We bring in ice-cold full water bottles, and when they run out we fill em up at the fountains. We've done it many times, and non of us ever got sick, so I figure we'll keep taking our chances with the snot-rocket laden drinking fountains.:thumbsup2

(I do find the drinking fountain water doesn't taste all that great though. I'm not sure if that's a DL thing, or a southern California thing, but it does taste kinda icky. It keeps us hydrated though.......for free. ;) )

Yes, I drink out of drinking fountains but have one requirement. The water must come up high enough that I don't have to put my mouth over it! :rotfl2:

AMEN!!!!! and with the "germ a phobes" out there, this is why we have SUPER BUGS that are now resistant to many many things~just saying~....on the drinking fountain note, do your kids drink from a water fountain at school? What is the real difference? You don't know what kids have what in that sittuation...and I have worked as a lab tech for 12 years and never heard of anyone getting sick or catching any real disease by touching a door handle to a bathroom or drinking from a water fountain. :confused3

It's just like those people that wear those masks on airplanes, but don't know that after about 20 minutes the mask isn't masking them from any germs anymore and they continue to wear them on 5 hour flights.. Don't get it..

I hate using public restrooms and I don't touch the door handle on the way out... although I DO touch the door handle when leaving the restaurant, gas station or building the restroom was located in :confused3 ! Why the heck do I do that?? I guess public restrooms are my "thing"! I think EVERYONE has strange little things that bug us about germs! They are everywhere, we can't avoid them and so some of us try and "control" when and where we will allow ourselves to be exposed.

Personally, I think money is about one of the grossest things we touch on a daily basis. But I try not to think about it;)

Oh, and I teach high school kids. I think a high school is one of the germiest places on the planet. The kids NEVER wash their hands and the are always coughing and sneezing all over everything. Not to mention, personal hygiene rules don't come in play until about their junior year... yuck!!! This is probably why I never get sick, I have been exposed and am now immune to everything lol!

Someone in this thread said they wash or sanitize their hands after every other ride they go on. THAT is hilarious!

When I go to Disneyland, I wash my hands after I use the bathroom. I'll also wash my hands or use purell or wet ones before I eat. But that's about it (unless I stick my hand in something gross by accident.) I expect my hands to get germy every single day. Some germs are GOOD. It helps build up your immune system. Do I want to wash my hands before I touch the hamburger I'm about to eat? Yes. Do I want to wash my hands after I touch everything? No. That would be a little nuts.

When I was working at a daycare, I definitely washed my hands a lot (those kids were pretty filthy....haha.) But in general...germs on my hands aren't going to hurt me. Especially since I don't make a habit of sticking my fingers in my mouth or anything.

Do I use water fountains at Disney? I have. I usually have a bottle of water with me so it's not really an issue. I don't care for the water fountains...not because of germs but because the water isn't cold and sometimes tastes funny.

Oh...and if you're a germaphobe....you may not want to use salt and pepper shakers at the restaurants. We saw a toddler sucking on the top of a salt shaker at the French Market once....haha.
