You can not rely on waitlists

Listen,

In the past week I've nabbed reservations that I know (100%) were someone else's waitlists. But obviously they've come up online before the waitlist search goes through for that day or in between multiple waitlist search times.

AND

Just now I let go of two prime reservations that showed up immediately online that I know (100%) would be someone's waitlist. Once again, obviously before a scheduled waitlist search.

So just heads up everyone. To continue to scan once in awhile because I'm not sure the computer system has a way of correcting this issue - not that I would know anyway. Smiling.

Before online scheduling....

I was waitlisted at AKV. I called every Monday just to check and a couple of times, they found a day here and a day there on my waitlist that I have convinced myself I would not have gotten if I hadn't called and checked myself instead of just waiting around....

My $0.02

So computer wizards - could they have a system where blocked waitlist periods/resorts (due to multiple WL requests)are HELD in limbo when/as soon as cancelled reservations come in and kept until the matching period each day?

Do you think other timeshares have it? Curious on your thoughts.

Maybe someone should work it out and sell it to them. :goodvibes :rolleyes1

Absolutely. Too many stories of phoning and "oh it's here" over the years for that to be untrue.

Online will simply make this happen more and more. You can check so rapidly. And 24 hours.

Sure, it's just an additional hold status that would not show as open until the waitress runs. I suspect right now there are two statuses, open and booked. They need a hold.

That's what I thought crisi. That it would just be another program within. It seems strange that they/we don't have it.

Someone snatched one of those prime reservations without the waitlist match coming through - how do I know? The other is prime as well - and would have went to waitlist - and is still sitting there. So one went to lucky versus waitlist.

Thanks for this post. I have been checking, nearly daily, for my waitlist to be fulfilled and current room availability in case something came up, for my upcoming December trip that I waitlisted. And, there, in front of my eyes, was the exact 1 br available for the exact time I had waitlisted. So I took it and cancelled the pointless waitlist. yay!

Yup, me too! Had a 1 BR at VWL for Christmas week, waitlisted on night 12/27 (thought it was an odd night to have to waitlist). Just checked and it was there!!! Cx my waitlist as well.
Thanks for the reminder

Great news. :thumbsup2 Fantastic. That's exactly why I posted. If that's the way it's going to be then we might as well nab our own waitlists. ;)

And more. Maybe I can start a new business - I'll religiously hunt your waitlist down. Oh boy.

And if others are out there - like me ;) - grabbing other people's goodies - well we should all know that this is happening. Hopefully, they will do something to alleviate this issue but I'm not so sure it will be any time soon. Since it was going on way before they started the online system - just on a smaller scale.

OP thanks for posting this strategy:thumbsup2, had no idea that the system worked thusly. Seems odd that it does but if it's the system we have to work with, might as well work it well.;)

Just happened to me to. I was waitlisted for a 1 bedroom at AK arriving 12/28. I've been randemly checking online for availability and this morning it was available, so I reserved and cancelled the waitlist. Seems the waitlist system could use some improvement.

+1 - I nabbed both BCV and VWL this summer by checking daily, when I had waitlists for both that didn't pick up! Lesson learned. :thumbsup2

In theory, yes - sounds like something programmable.

But I have some doubts that it would be successful in practice. That kind of real-time program call on every cancellation transaction could be incredibly taxing on system performance to where it be detrimental to MS live use. Thus, better to run that kind of program in a batch off hours when MS isn't live on the system.

Well this is a reliable way of doing things. Lesson learned for me too... thanks!

Well, darn. I have kept checking obsessively since I got on the wait list but I am not having any luck with my Oct. wait list for a Kidani 1 bedroom.

Don't despair. It's only June. Last year we wait listed for December 31, one night at GCV. I think we got it the week before. This year we're wait listed for BCV for December 31 again. I've been obsessively checking, but I know I will eventually get it.:)

Understandable. Thanks so much - I've been curious about thoughts on how they could run it.

Fantastic on all the waitlists nabbed.

Savanna? I bet you'll get it Jean. :thumbsup2

I have a 2 bedroom booked at BWV for oct 25-28, but am on two wait lists for a 2bed -queen and a 2bed-lock off at BCV for those dates. I keep checking online, and haven't seen anything yet, but if I do, how do I handle it, if MS isn't open? I'm afraid to cancel the BWV until ive secured the other, but I don't have enough points to book another 3 day trip. Help, please!

Thanks!
