Yet another reason I do not support PETA

Did Ben and Jerry's ever make a statement back to them about using human breastmilk in their ice cream instead of cows milk?

You don't know the half of it. If one is raised on a working farm, one see animals differently. I love animals, but they are food. It is a matter of perspective.

Peace... :goodvibes

I, personally, think growing up on a working family farm can make one even more intolerant of animal cruelty. I understand that animals are raised for meat, but that doesn't meant they need to be tortured. Factory farm practices are often times inhumane.

In my poly sci class we had to compare Earth First too the Sierra Club. Earth First with their shock tactics basically accomplish nothing. Sierra Club is well respected and had a long list of accomplishments.

There's a much better approach to get things accomplished.

If PETA does any good, I am not aware of it. I do not know a single person who equates PETA with positive work against animal cruelty. The vast majority thinks of them as radical loons who are only out to shock. Their tactics are too outrageous. They do not make me angry about injustice towards animals, they just make me angry (when I'm not laughing at them.) How does that save animals?

PETA makes a mockery of the cause they claim to champion. It's actually quite sad.

This sums up my feeling about PETA exactly.

(And Family Fun Mom, is your tag from "Stark Raving Mad"? My husband and I say the "Nothing from the sea!" line to eack other all the time - that episode was hilarious!)

I got that tag from a "what's your phobia" thread. I have an abnormal fear and aversion to fish. I cannot eat sea food because of it. I eat nothing from the sea. Nothing!

I do recall hearing that line on a TV show and I totally identifed with it. I don't remember the show, though. It was a long time ago. I'll have to go look up "Stark Raving Mad." Maybe that was it.

Didn't PETA do something like this before, with drawings of Ronald with a bloody axe and a decapitated cow or something?

If PETA was really about what their name says, I'd be all for them. Since they seem to be a totally radical, insane group of nutcases, I'm totally against them. Do you realize that they think dogs and cats are better off dead than "imprisoned" by loving people as pets? All of the pet owners I know are uber supporters of ethical animal treatment and treat their pets like family members. Any group that think that is BAD is wrong, IMO.

I am all for free speech, but accosting a young child with violent imagery like that Mc Cruelty meal is wrong. I would be Pi$$ed if someone tried to give one of those to my kid,

Shock value, doesn't work for me. I have seen MANY of PETA's videos. And while in my opinion the are horrific:scared1: (there's the shock value), it doesn't stop me from eating meat.

Not sure if I want steak or chicken for supper tonight:upsidedow?????

I lost all respect for PETA in the late 90's. I worked in a retail store that included a fur salon. A group of PETA members stood outside the store during a sale and threw paint on people who came out with a fur coat.

They also blocked doors to the store so no customers could enter or leave.

We had to get the police involved since throwing the paint was considered assault.

No good came of their actions and instead it made them look unreasonable as they were interferring with people's actions who had no connection to the fur dept.

We had PETA march in front of our NYC office when I was with my previous employer. Why? Because we won a client contract. Our new client had a client that PETA disapproved of. Think about that for a second... :upsidedow

Exactly! I wonder how a PETA member would feel if someone came and threw paint all over their vegetable garden because it draws insects, deer, critters, etc., into the neighborhood?

I grew up on a beef farm and that is why I am a vegetarian.
