Yet another Ebay Dilemma, help please?

I sold a lot of Beanie Babies at the end of August, By the time I got the check and it cleared, I shipped around September 7th. Buyer has not received the item yet. It was an APO military address. It was shipped Parcel Post. Item only sold for under $7 but shipping was $13 including insurance.

What to do? Insurance only covrs the cost of the item right? So she would still be out the shipping costs if she doesn't receive the stuff right?

I am guessing you didn't use delivery confirmation? I guess my best idea is to offer to split the costs involved with the buyer. You have no proof that you sent the box (obviously not saying you didn't, but just that you can't prove it.) and she has no proof that she didn't receive it.

Geez, it seems like this has been happening a lot lately! We are hearing about it all teh time on this board alone. (The lost pkg thing.)

Please use DC from now on. It really is the only way to protect yourself and for $.45 it really is worth it!

I lived at an FPO address (FPO is overseas West Coast, APO is East Coast). Parcel post takes forever, especially if it's going overseas...they basically put it on a slow boat to China (no pun intended), so I would ask the person to wait a bit more.

Also, if you do the postage online, delivery confirmation is free. I love being able to just go through ebay using my paypal account to pay for the postage and printing out the label. Plus, it saves a trip to the post office.

I'm with Disneymom3. I never ship without delivery confirmation. It protects me and them.

Don't do anything just yet!! First of all, delivery confirmation means nothing when going to APO / FPO---the military doesn't use those codes once it gets in their possession.


If you have to send anything APO / FPO again, use Priority Mail. I had a Parcel Post package to an APO address take 9 weeks to arrive before. "Slow Boat to China" is exactly right.

Just explain that to your buyer. If your listing didn't state it would be mailed Priority----then the buyer should have known to expect delay.

Yep...for those suggesting Delivery Confirmation, that will only tell you when it arrives in New York. It won't tell you anything about the package arriving at the final destination - Europe or Asia.

I'm not sure about the insurance, but I think you are correct - that it would only reimburse for the value of the item as indicated on the insurance form. It would not include shipping.

As someone else suggested...with an APO or FPO, Priority is the way to go. I can mail stuff to my sister on a Saturday and she usually has it by Monday or Tuesday. I never use Parcel Post anymore.

I sell alot on ebay and often when shipping to APO parcel post it will take forever. I would ask the person to hang on and explain to them. You cannot print postage out on paypal for all APO boxes, most it will not accept, just like it won't let you print for international. Insurance will only cover if the package is damaged, it doesn't cover loss, which is pretty stupid if you ask me! Shipping is not refunded as you thought. I am sure it will show up eventually.

Just to chime in on the issue of waiting before you do anything-
My company ships packages regularly to APO addresses. We are not able to even start a claim on the insurance for 90 days after the shipping date. More often than not, the package shows up before then anyways.
