rot in prison, you scumbag worthless "QB":

RICHMOND, Va. - Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was indicted Tuesday by a federal grand jury on charges related to illegal dogfighting.
Vick and three others were charged with violating federal laws against competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting and conducting the enterprise across state lines.

The indictment alleges that Vick and his co-defendants began sponsoring dogfighting in early 2001, the former Virginia Tech star's rookie year with the Falcons.

It accuses Vick, Purnell A. Peace, Quanis L. Phillips and Tony Taylor of "knowingly sponsoring and exhibiting an animal fighting venture," of conducting a business enterprise involving gambling, as well as buying, transporting and receiving dogs for the purposes of an animal fighting venture.

Telephone messages left at the offices and home of Vick's attorney, Larry Woodward, were not immediately returned.

A woman who answered the phone at the home of Vick's mother said the family knew nothing about the charges.

On July 7, federal authorities conducted a second search of the Surry, Va., property owned by Vick that is the center of the dogfighting investigation.

According to court documents filed by federal authorities earlier this month, dogfights have been sponsored by "Bad Newz Kennels" at the property since at least 2002. For the events, participants and dogs traveled from South Carolina, North Carolina, Maryland, New York, Texas and other states.

Fifty-four pit bulls were recovered from the property during searches in April, along with a "rape stand," used to hold dogs in place for mating; an electric treadmill modified for dogs; and a bloodied piece of carpeting, the documents said.

During a June search of the property, investigators uncovered the graves of seven pit bulls that were killed by members of "Bad Newz Kennels" following sessions to test whether the dogs would be good fighters, the documents alleged.

Members of "Bad Newz Kennels" also sponsored and exhibited fights in other parts of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, New Jersey and other states, according to the filings.

On Vick's Web site, he lists his birthplace as Newport News, "a.k.a. BadNews."

The documents said the fights usually occurred late at night or in the early morning and would last several hours.

Before fights, participating dogs of the same sex would be weighed and bathed, according to the filings. Opposing dogs would be washed to remove any poison or narcotic placed on the dog's coat that could affect the other dog's performance.

Sometimes, dogs weren't fed to "make it more hungry for the other dog."

Fights would end when one dog died or with the surrender of the losing dog, which was sometimes put to death by drowning, strangulation, hanging, gun shot, electrocution or some other method, according to the documents.

I wouldn't hold out hope that he goes to prison if convicted. There's a Rams player who killed someone while driving drunk a few years ago and he's still playing football. :sad2:

As the owner of a rescued dog & a volunteer for the rescue, I am glad that someone actually getting indicted for this is on public tv & national news. If it were just an ordinary person, it would get no news coverage (perhaps maybe local coverage only). What those poor dogs went through:sad2:

via PFT referencing the indictment paperwork

In March 2003, Peace allegedly electrocuted a female pit bull that had lost a fight after consulting on the matter with Vick. Peace shot another losing dog that same month.

The most graphic misconduct allegedly occurred not long before the first search of the property. According to paragraph 83 of the indictment, Vick, Peace, and Phillips executed in April 2007 approximately eight dogs that did not perform well in "testing" sessions, by "hanging, drowning, and slamming at least one dog's body to the ground."

In other words, in the same month in which Vick declared that he never goes to his Surry County property, and the same month in which he sat face-to-face with the Commissioner, Vick had (according to the indictment) participated in the killing of as many as eight dogs deemed unfit for fighting.

the Falcons can revoke his contract because he has a moral perpetuity clause, whether he is found guilty or not. no sponsor will ever touch him again...goodbye Nike. this piece of crap's career in the NFL is officially over.

I read the whole indictment - sickening.

My friend works at the NFL - they are in a major tizz - I guess the corporate development office can't sell animal sadism so well.

On behalf of my rescued PB, I hope Vick goes to prison and someone much bigger than he is re-enacts his own indictment on him.

Considering some of the problems his younger brother Marcus caused while attending VA Tech, I'm not too surprised Michael was indicted.

Michael's been saying he knew nothing about it and tried shifting the blame onto his relatives who lived there. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them talked.

OMG how horrible. The sadistic scum.

Marcus caused a lot of problems at home too!

I had hoped that Michael was the reasonably good guy he portrayed...too bad he's not.

This sickens me!

I don't know too much about the NFL reaction, but I've heard that they are not going to tolerate this AT ALL!.

These are federal charges and involve several states...I can't see him just getting away with it.

Disgusting! :sad2:

In the news today I heard a story where a dog was tied up and set on fire. The poor thing, even in all it's pain, managed to wag it's tail for rescuers. They don't think the dog will live. I hope there is a special place in hell for all the animal and the child abusers. The poor things can't fight back. :sad1:

Although I'm still a Bears fan living in Atlanta all we hear about is how great Vick is. I can't stand him.

Obviously Vick's done for at least part of this season.

Now I wonder if any other players are involved at some level, especially other Falcons.

I 've been reading the indictment and I can't make it past page seven. it's too sickening and sad.

the Feds have dog names and fight schedules five years back. they've got numerous violations of interstate commerce. I hope they build a "rape stand" for Vick in prison.

the Falcons' official message board can't handle the load.

He's scum. Anyone who can do that to another living being - esp an innocent one - deserves to rot.

He's a discusting excuse for a human being. I hope he gets what he deserves if/when he goes to prison.

I can't even read the story past the part about the rape stand because it makes me sick. I'm so glad this is getting media attention. I am a lover of bully breed dogs and can not even fathom how fighting dogs like this can make people excited. Pit bulls are great, it's people like Vick & his cronies that aren't.

What a disgusting and horrifying story. I'm glad it's someone famous being convicted of the charges in the hopes that it'll bring the issue more to light than it would have had it been a "normal" person.

I'm surprised that it has taken this long to indict him. Sports Illustrated broke this story almost two months ago and PFT was ahead of them by almost another month. Sports Illustrated even had pictures of the dog fighting buildings in the back of Vick's property, which were all painted black as an effort to hide them from the police at night. Vick is a disgusting human being and there's no way the NFL or the Atlanta Falcons can overlook this matter now. He's gotten away with some bad behavior before because of his talents, but that well has run dry.

My parents had/ran a professional dog kennel for almost 30 years, raising Akita show dogs. I have been around dogs and the people who own them or show them for most of my life. I have nothing but deep dislike and hatred for people who raise, train, and fight dogs. I have seen the end results of dog fights and it horrible beyond words. The sound of two full size adult dogs going at it, is something I can still hear in my mind and it's something you don't forget. I have also attended seminars on how to spot and deal with dog fighting operations through the dog clubs and Humane Society gatherings.

Sadly, the problem of Pit Bulls, the abuse of them and dog fighting has been going on for years in the inner cities and in the South. In fact the NFL and the NBA has it's share of players that think nothing is wrong with it and openly support it. Some of them even had websites that they sold their animals on. It's part of the thug culture and considered to be macho or manly to do it. I find the whole thing sickening
It's a status symbol and a source of big income to have a dog that has "game". When you hear about a dog that has the term "game" or "gameness" attached to it, it means it's an excellent fighter and the best at what it does. Those dogs are sought out for their aggressive traits and it's encouraged in the breeding process. Sadly, I know way too much about dog fighting, from the years of being around my parents kennel and the show dog industry. You hear the horror stories and even try to help with the rescue process, when time permits.

It's part of a thug culture and they look at it, as it's a sport. I've been seeing and hearing of Pits being abused like this, in the early 1980's. It's ashame because Pit Bulls can be beautiful family animals that are some of the nicest dogs you ever want to meet.

Here's a premiere NFL player defending dog fighting and I'll post the quote and the link. It's a disgusting mindset and it shows what kind of a beast he is.

I don't know if he was fighting dogs or not, but it's his property, it's his dog," Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis told WAVY-TV in Virginia. "If that's what he wants to do, do it. I think people should mind their business."

When told that dog fighting is a felony, Portis replied, "It can't be too bad of a crime."
