yellow wrist band

My whole family wears them. I lost my mom to breast cancer almost 3 years ago. As others have said, who cares why some wear them the money is helping people living with cancer!

I also still remember my POW's name.

I also wear yellow

I wear it in honor of my daughter Lex who died of Leukemia and all my C*Kid friends who have fought the battle

I just asked someone yesterday (when I had my 11 year old son with me) what it was for. He told me, and DS said "Mom, I want to get one. There's a girl in our school who has cancer. She won't be there tomorrow because she has to have that che something stuff, but I'd like her to know that I want her to get better".

Boy was that a great opportunity to tell my DS how proud I was of him, and talk a little about chemotherapy and exactly what it is and why his classmate won't be back for a while. I'm glad you posted a link, because I will be using it in just a minute.

I have seen them all over. I was wondering what they were.

Thats great my dh (36) had testical cancer and has recooperated. Thank God.

Wow can't wait to get my hands on few .
:scratchin :scratchin

It's also possible to donate money to the LAF without wearing the bracelets too.... I know, I've done so. I've never been much of a one to wear "statements" on my lapel or wrist. I too wonder about politicians who wear the LAF bracelets. I can almost hear their handlers "Here's your American flag lapel pin (because you don't want to appear un-patriotic), and here's your yellow bracelet (because everyone's wearing them and it'll make you look more sympathetic) too."

I wear mine in memory of my aunt. Once we learned her cancer was terminal, I wanted to get a whole bunch to have at the funeral home so her friends and family could take one to have something to remember her by and to support the cause. Unfortunately, the end came much faster than any of us expected and I wasn't able to get the bands in time. At the wake, so many people asked me about mine. When they heard what it was for, they asked how to get one. So I've gone ahead and ordered a whole bunch anyway to give to people the next time I see them.

I'm no fan of Kerry but I don't look at him and think that at all. I believe he has (as most everyone these days has) been touched by the cancer monster. I don't think he wears it for any other reason than I do.

I agree with Buckalew. And what better advertisement for the cause than to have a presidential candidate wear one. Imagine all the people with whom he comes in contact and how many may have inquired about it!

It's also possible to donate money to the LAF without wearing the bracelets too....

That's true, but the bracelets help people get more interested and promote the cause. This thread is the best example.

Our youngest DS15 wears his yellow bracelet everyday.
He admires Lance Armstrong and has read all of his books.
All summer long he was trying to buy a bracelet, and he finally
got one in September.:) :)

My entire family each wear one, from my 8yo DD to my 60something father. All in honor of my mom and I and in memory of my MIL and FIL.

I've been trying to find someplace to get one for me and a tiny one for my daughter....Matthew in my sig. pictures died from cancer and we would love to wear them in memory of him...I will have to check that webiste and order some. When Matt died Hospice had one of his shirts turned into a stuffed bear for my daughter and it came with a nice poem about hugging the bear whenever she felt like crying because she missed Matt..she still cherishes that bear!

Aprilgail,

Is there a build-a-bear workshop near you?

The LAF has partnered with them and you can buy either an adult or a youth sized bracelet that comes with a smaller one (made for the kids to use on their stuffed animals)

But, the small one might be just the right size for your dd.
Since she has her special bear maybe you could get a couple and her bear could wear one too!

The best thing is.... since it's a partnership - the money goes to the right place - cancer research and education!

Pm me if there is not a BABW nearby you and I'd be glad to check and see if our local store still has them in stock. They did just a few days ago - but they were selling fast.

The idea behind them is nice, but I don't like how they look. They remind me of hospital bracelets!

I prefer to wear a ribbon pin.

I've actually been wanting to get one of these wristbands all summer long. This thread sort of just reminded me to get my act together and do it.

Two questions tho, if anyone knows: Are the bracelets being sold at any stores, or just online through the website? and how big would you say are the adult sized ones? Do most women here find them too big/wear the youth sizes??

Thanks!

You're SICK of seeing these things? Guess what - I'm SICK and maybe these things will help cure me. Maybe some one else won't get SICK because of them. How on earth do yellow wristbands worn by kids make you SICK?? Do you ask these children if they know what they're for? It sounds to me like they do know. The fact that they may be a fashion statement as well just makes them sell better. How does it look ridiculous to wear a wristband of any type - let alone one that is being used to raise money for cancer research.

You don't know what SICK is.

Oops, Joe, look like you're stunning no one again! .;) Think before you type please.

Debbie, I did not know you were diagnosed with cancer. I am so sorry to hear of it. You will be in my prayers.
Oh, and I agree with your sentiments about their look beiing criticized. So what?
I find my bright yellow bracelet looks good with EVERYTHING! LOL

BTW, I wear a "youth" band and I'm not a skinny kid anymore.:o ;)

I have adult size and I wish I wouldve gotten the youth one- Its just a bit to big for me...
