YEA! for saving change!

We came up with $198 last night! Really going to come in handy for this sudden wdw trip on Sat!! I didn't roll the pennies, I think I will give those counting machines a try...should save me a lot of time?!

Hi

I cashed in my work pig bank last month for Disney Dollars, there was a little over $100, then the home one last night was another $70. Very happy since we weren't even really applying ourselves to save the change! :)

I love to roll my own change (probably a strange hobby, LOL!). But lately, I've been taking everything to our bank (TCF) and letting ds put it all in the counting machine. Then I just turn in the receipt for cash. There's no charge for customers; a small fee for non-customers (not sure if it's more or less than the CoinStar machines charge).

Reading this thread reminded me to go empty my purse and pockets of change! LOL

We use a Disney popcorn bucket. I usually hang onto the pennies and use them when I'm paying to get better change, i.e. if it's 1.42, giving them 2.02. Since I use my Disney Visa for everything I possibly can, my change doesn't accumulate as fast as some have posted here. My bank will count my change for free in their machine, as long as I bring it in when they're not busy. I'm not rich enough to save bills, but if I did, I would have to bury them in the bottom of the bucket or they wouldn't be safe!

Good luck to everyone on stashing that cash. And remember, silly as it sounds, $1,000,000 begins with just one cent.

I started my coin bottle. Used a leftover gallon water bottle from our hurricane kit that we had to utilize this week. Dropped in all our change from my regular piggy bank--and stashed in some bills leftover from our hurricane cash stash (just a couple of 5's and some 1's)--the 20s will not be able to be stashed b/c hubby will inquire and I'm trying to be sly on the change jar.

Don't have a goal yet, we'll have to see how much $$$ I have when it reaches the top of the bottle. It could help with my DCL aspirations--but we will have to see.

My boyfriend and I just started saving again since we just returned home from WDW yesterday...I'm already trying to plan for next years trip in sept 05 and he thinks I'm crazy!

Anyway, from this trip alone, I dumped out my purse this morning and had 9.44 in change...no wonder it was so heavy! And....even better, I had recently sent in a claim to The Michigan Department of Treasury because I found some info on the internet about unclaimed money and I just got a check from the State of Michigan for $185.28!!!! Can you believe that? It's going right into the "Florida Savings Account" that we are opening solely for saving money for our next trip!!!

Just cashed in 2 years of change saving for October trip. Over $1,000 saved!!!! Got me awful close to my $1,500 spending budget. Couldn't do this trip without it.

Whoa, jsfein--that is very impressive! Did you do frequent deposits or just keep a huuuuuge container. $1000--I'm speechless.

Okay, not really :)

At the grocery store today--I wrote a check for $10 over and deposited it in my coins. Is that cheating? I then folded it up in a dollar bill--so from the outside of the container--you can't see the $10. I'm hoping I forget about it.

We are not a big cash carrying family--so that is how I am going to have to sneak in the bills. Anybody else do this?

Used a large water cooler jug and had ALL the change counted 2 weeks ago. Was a little nervous as to how much it might add up to since I knew that was going to comprise the majority of our spending money. I was quite pleased with our take.

$1,000....WOW, that is great!!!! That really gives me something to shoot for. ::yes::

We are also using a large water cooler jug, that came from the place DH works.

Our trip isn't planned until 2007, so I am hoping that maybe we can get that much in change saved. I have budgeted $6000, that is for room, tickets, and everything else. Would be nice to have an extra $1000 to play with. ::yes::

I have also been thinking about letting the change get to a certain point in the jug, roll it, take it to the bank and then deposit it into my ING account to collect interest on it. Anyone been doing that?

I have! I regularly deposit my coins as well as pop bottle returns and some money (maybe $20 or whatever) from paychecks into my ING account. It makes more sense to me to accrue the interest.

We have been savings since we decided to go in Jan
and i just counted last night $571
of course some of that were singles and fives i stashed away in the jar too
I love saving change
as soon as we get back we start saving for 2/06 trip
