We are set to check in to YC-Club level next week. I thought I would read some reviews on trip advisor and there are many talking about the rooms needing updated and smelling musty. I thought YC rooms were redone a year or 2 ago? How has others experiences been? We have not stayed here before but stayed at BWI and like it. We can change our ressie today to WL club level. Thoughts?

EWWWWWWW (to the bird droppings).

We stayed YC CL in April, and our room was in wonderful condition. Clean, well maintained, etc...we had great housekeeping throughout our 11 day stay. We had no musty smell or anything like that.

We did not notice any, let alone, excessive bird droppings in the SAB sand...

That being said WL CL is my absolute favorite.....:cloud9:

I'm sure you'll have a great time at either! :goodvibes

Well, honestly I'm not a fan of Tripadvisor. I don't find the "review" postings particularly helpful.
I was at YC in Oct and Nov 2012, the rooms were fine, SAB fun as usual. We were there with a family group. Everyone had a good time, no complaints. I planned the trip. If there were problems, I would have been the first to hear about it, I promise.

We love YC-CL. We can't wait to go back. I found the rooms very clean and well maintained. There are always people that are never happy anywhere. Have fun! SAB is the best pool!

I always avoid tripadvisor with a passion.

I always stay at POR; they just went through a refurb about 1-1/2 years ago. People were on there complaining about how run down it was; they cannot even have been there.

My favorites are when they complain about bed bugs and say they have bites all over their ankles - turns out they had golfer's rash from walking the parks all day without sun screen.

Some people will complain about anything. I have found tripadvisor to be very unreliable.

First, to allay your concerns, we were just at beach club, and all seemed nice/clean, and other guests at both yc and bc seemed happy (while we were there, there was a slight issue with water/dampness in two first floor bc rooms due to a leaky pipe/tub, which were then vacated and all guests moved to other rooms while disney attacked issue with a vengeance). So yes, at any given time, there can be some limited dampness in a few rooms due to engineering issues, etc (like any large hotel), and it may take a bit longer to clean up/dry out due to florida humidity, but disney tries to ensure such issues are theirs, not yours. And the hallway never seemed musty, and our room was pretty close to the problem rooms, and we noticed nothing, despite my wife generally being a bit "touchy" and I have a mild mold and mildew allergy, so if there was an issue, we would have been the first to know. However, regarding tripadvisor generally, while I actually think it is generally helpful to give some advice, one of its key "weak spots" (in my opinion) is disney - the reviews are often written by business/frequent travellers, who expect a certain level of amenity for the admittedly very high prices charged by disney for hotels, particularly when compared to offsite orlando hotel rooms. For better or for worse, much of the price of an onsite disney room is for the "magic", including proximity to parks, convenience, etc, but a typical tripadvisor reviewer is simply comparing a club level yacht club room to a suite at ritz or Mandarin or even four seasons, which have similar prices, and for pure hotel amenities, luxuriousness of room itself, etc, probably does fall short of expectations.

I love the SAB- never seen any problems there. Always clean! We mostly stay at BCV-DVC but had a chance to stay YC-CL this past week. It was great! The rooms very nice and clean. The staff wonderful.

The vast majority of people posting on TripAdvisor are posting negative things. For whatever reason, few people seem to return from their vacations and post great reviews on TripAdvisor. But many seem to think they are doing everyone else a great service by posting things that went wrong...and I have to think that a lot of what they report is somewhat exaggerated.

We stayed at the YC for the first time over Mother's Day weekend. I LOVED it!! The staff was among the best on property. We own DVC and typically stay at the BWV, but we have stayed at all of the deluxes minus the BC and YC ranks very high. The rooms were gorgeous and SB is simply amazing. The pool area alone is worth the expense. I was traveling with my mom, who only likes the BW and even she said that it's now a toss up between the YC and BW. Have a great trip!

BTW, we have taken my parents along with us and stayed at BLT with a theme park view, the BWV with a BW view and my mom said even with those experiences, she still loved the YC as much or more. Actually, she didn't like BLT at all...haha. She's an Epcot lover so she can't get past the convenience of the BW/YC/BC.

We were at YC CL mid May. The room was clean & well kept. The only smell we noticed was the lobby. And that wasn't mold! Lots of people love that smell & wish Disney would sell it! :goodvibes

I will say I noticed a little wear hall rugs on the 5th floor. But certainly not thread bear & definitely understandable given the constant traffic. Just "hmm, Disney will probably be replacing these rugs soon. Hope it won't mean we have to stay somewhere else while they do."

We're booked again for Sept. So we didn't think it was that bad! Have a great vacation!

We were just at YC and our room was fine. It is definitely time for Disney to replace the carpet and paint the hallways. I have noticed this in both BC and YC.

I think for the price people pay they expect the resort to be better maintained that's why the reviews on trip advisor aren't always so great. I personally think Disney could do a better job in this area, but it hasn't stopped me from going back again and again.

I'm a frequent reviewer @ Tripadvisor & I certainly don't just post the negative! I use it all the time when researching places but with any other type of review community (yelp etc.) I typically discount the 'over the top' glowing reviews & the bottom 5-10% and you land somewhere in the middle (ie. the 'truth')!

As of right now YC on Tripadvisor is showing 459 Excellent; 236 Very Good; 87 Average; 37 Poor & 15 Terrible reviews.

I think you odds are pretty good that YC is not all bad :)

I also agree with Trip Advisor not being very reliable...some people who post negative reviews also post a slew of very detailed photos of a corner of a carpet in full focus professional photograph style (in which they most likely had to lie down in an extremely awkward position to get said photograph, presumably in front of their mortified family members :sad2:...) just to prove that the carpet is 'filthy'...truth be told, with the amount of people going in and out of those rooms at any given time it would be a miracle for them to be pristine...do I expect/demand a clean room when I go on vacation? Of course, in fact I'm a germaphobe...I so much as ship chlorox bleach multipurpose cleaner and lysol wipes and spray before my trip :thumbsup2 however if you are lying on the floor to take pictures of your 'dirty' room...you need to get back on the plane and go home because you are totally missing the point of a vacation :sad2: Another thing to keep in mind if you want a clean room...housekeeping has a set amount of time to spend on each room...if you have trash everywhere and your clothes and shampoo bottles, soda bottles sunscreen are thrown everywhere, the majority of housekeeping's time is going to be spent picking up clothing and trash and moving it out of the way to make the beds...don't expect your sinks to shine and the toilet to be glowing if you trashed your room like a rock star :rotfl2: also, negative posts are usually done as a last ditch effort after trying to get some sort of 'compensation' for a minor issue has failed...sort of like 'if you don't give me 'x' I'll post a BAD review on Trip Advisor:mad:'...pay no mind...my favorite resort is CS and it is completely BASHED on trip advisor horribly...doesn't matter to me I still love it!

My sister stayed at YC less than a year ago and it is her favorite resort so far.
