Yakitori House -- Awful

We have been here at Disney since Tuesday and have eaten at several restaurants. Yesterday for lunch we ate at Yakitori House. It had gotten rave reviews in the Unofficial Guide to WDW 2007 so we were excited to eat there. This restaurant was the WORSE that I believe I have ever eaten at. Everything was bad from the entree to the sushi to the desert (please don't try the ginger cake get the cookie). I hate to write bad reviews but this place had me do it.

I love Yakitori House! I think it's one of those places that you either love or hate - there's no middle ground. The teriyaki chicken is my favorite, and the ginger cake as well. I can honestly say the worst counter service meal I ever had was at Electric Umbrella when I got a totally cold burger (it was actually cold like it had been refrigerated), but I've had good meals there as well. Maybe you just hit it on an off day?

I ate there for the first time this past April and we really enjoyed it. The Udon Noodle soup was excellent and we also enjoyed the Teriyaki.

What didn't you like about it, specifically? Did you think the food was poorly prepared or did you just not like that style of food. It was fairly close to "real" Japanese food that I had when I lived in Japan for 4 years.

I agree with you, this is the worst CS place ever....goes right along with the Tomorrowland Noodle Terrace. I hate grisley dark meat chicken.

My son and his fiance ate there in June. She had sushi and he had a combination plate. She said the sushi was good, but my son really liked what he ate. I wasn't really hungry so I only had a salad with ginger dressing. I tasted some type of shredded beef from my son's plate and I thought it was pretty good. He said he would eat there again. I know my parents always eat there when they go to WDW.

I actually liked this place. I had the teriyaki chicken which was pretty good. I think the worst CS restaurant is the Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station. YUCK!! The food here was awful! :(

My husband & I always stop at Yakitori House when in Epcot. I love the soup & the green ice tea. I won't order the chicken because they only serve thigh meat.

Yakitori is my favorite as well, but I only order the barley tea and the udon soup. Can't speak for the rest although DD likes the sushi.

Forgot to say: The Udon is verrry authentic. We had tons of it in Japan because that was all that we could afford!

I find Yakitori one of those places where expectations need to be clear when visiting. If you are seeking a simple, warming, and inexpensive meal...especially the udon soup; it's a winner. If you are expecting fine cuisine or quality sushi; you will be disappointed. It is one of my wife's favorites (she loves the udon soup) and I have grown to appreciate what it is....inexpensive and OK overall....nothing more than that.

I agree. The dressing on the salad is awful (and it is great at their sit downs.) The soy sauce they give you with the sushi is so salty it would give you a heart attack on the spot:) I like the new CS menu at Lotus Blossom (China) a lot though.

I used to love it until they started using chicken thighs instead of white meat. I love the salad though and the sushi is pretty good for a fast food place.

I love udon, but have never had it at WDW (looking to remedy this in Sept  ). I'd hate to have to use 2 CS credits to have enough for lunch if its only a small serving. Is it the kind with seafood or more like plain noodle soup?

We like eating there. We always do a couple of Signature restaurants while on the DDP, so we are usually short a table service or two. We eat here to use a counter service, so it works for us. At least it's not another burger.

We think it is fine, seems like normal fast food Japanese food to us. If we have a yen for rice, we go there and get the curry rice. The teriyaki is never as good as what you make at home, but where is the counter service food first rate?

I think it's pretty awful too. I always think that the people that love it just haven't had really good Japanese food yet! I had the Udon and it was actually good, but my mom and my son had things that were just icky. the food seemed like it had been sitting around too - the tempura wasn't hot and was greasy... actually more like greazy... the dessert options weren't good and the service was extremely slow.

I wouldn't say it was the worst meal I've ever had, but for someone who LOVES Japanese food, this place just didn't cut it. I'm grossed out by dark meat chicken too - maybe that's my problem???

FWIW, my favorite restaurant in the town where I live is a Japanese steakhouse (teppan stule), and I love Yakiroti house. For counter service, it's one of the best in Epcot, IMO. OP, sorry you didn't like it, but I'm a big fan. Different strokes and all that.

We loved it too when they used white meat. The quality of the food has slipped over the past 2-3 years.

It's a fair sized bowl, maybe two cups? Lots of noodles. You can get it with tempura shrimp. It fills me up but I'm not a huge eater.

Hope this helps

Second that on the Electric Umbrella...the first time we were going to eat there we went in and it smelt so bad of pinesol we left immediately. So the next trip we thought we'd give it another try. No pinesol smell so we ordered. The three of us threw most of our food away. Tried to eat it but the burgers were cold, and the buns dry; the fries were cold, greasy and limp. Forgot what the dessert we had was now, we may have binned that too. It was the absolute worst meal we have ever had at Disney, and we will never go back.

As for Yakitori House so far we haven't tried it yet :)

Oh and to top it off... I discovered today that they charged me 7 DDP CS meals when we only used 4.:scared1:  :sad2:
