Hi

The trip we're taking in Sept is going to be our delayed Anniversary trip since we can't take our annual one this year. (due to work). Anyway, I wanted to plan a night out for DH who is a serious steak lover. (I don't even eat red meat so I have no clue).

We'll be at the Yacht Club Concierge the 2nd half of the trip so I was thinking of the Yachtsman Steakhouse - was wanting to hear reviews, details, etc or opinions on a better place. (hopefully with a good seafood or chicken menu for moi) ;)

Thanks!

We have enjoyed steaks at both Le Cellier in Epcot and the Yachtsman Steakhouse. We had good experiences at both places. Le Cellier is a little less expensive than the Yachtsman but the YS seems to offer more choices in terms of cuts of steak. We haven't been there but I've read lots of good reviews on Shula's at the Dolphin and the Flying Fish on the Boardwalk. I don't see steak on the menu at FF but I've heard it is there. All are reasonably close to the YC. I think the best thing would be to check the menus here at DIS or at www.wdwig.com. That way you can compare which menu sounds best suited for both of you. Have a wonderful time!

The best steak at WDW is at Shula's in the Dolphin. It is a bit pricey but well worth it. The portions are HUGE and the sides just as big. DW and I split the "potato on steroids" and get a veggie. If you are a true steak lover imho, Shula's is the only to place to go.

Even with it's a la carte menu it's not much more then the YSH.

Thanks for the replies! I'm not worried about cost, I just want to make this a surprise & make somewhat of an informed decision. :)
(since i have no concept of a good steak)

Thanks again!

Shula's is indeed the home of serious steak at WDW and on that basis would be the best choice--for DH.
But you will find that several other WDW restaurants have excellent steak entrees--Jiko and the Flying Fish come immediately to mind.
So I guess Epcotgal8 is right--have a look at the menus and if you see a place that might please YOU, then you could post and see if anyone had steak there.
Or maybe someone who has dined at Shula's has ordered something other than steak(?)

I used to be a huge fanb of Yachtsmans. I wills till eat there, but it's no longer found on the short list. I'm trying Shula's in about a month, and have never heard anything bad about it, except the prices. The best steak I've had in a long time at WDW was at Jiko. I've eaten there four times now, and have never ben dissappointed. I've also never been dissapointed at Le Cellier, but it's not for everyone.

Shulas is good but I like to use my DDE card and they dont except it there. We love Yachts Steakhouse, the food is always good and the service wonderful.

Another vote for the Yachtsman!!

We eat there at least twice each trip
Surf and Turf, Filet Mignon and Bourbon Steak
all to die for-we crave it to this day and already
have PS for 3 meals there this May.

I've heard Shula's is good-haven't eaten there.
If you are on any kind of plan (ie. we go on the
old Deluxe Magic now Gold plan) meals at
the Swan and Dolphin Rest. are not included.

Another vote for the Yachtsman.
When we dined there, I requested my steak "as rare as legally possible" and it was the best steak I ever had.
Splurge and have the waiter suggest a wine.

Are Swan & Dolphin included in the Grand Plan (Platinum Pkg)
(they are not in the Gold - Deluxe Plan)

I have to say I haven't been to Shulas but if it beats Yachtsman I'd be SERIOUSLY impressed!!! :)

Yachtsman is outstanding. Although I am disappointed they stopped serving their Chateau Briand!

*Oh and they have great crab cakes too :)

Oh my-when did they stop serving the Chateau

My vote would be for Yachtsman. We ate last week at Jiko, FF, and YS. FF had a short rib with mashed potatoes that was out of this world - one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. It's not always on the menu, happened to be one of the specials they had - it was on the top left of the menu, apart from the regular offerings.
We ate at YS on Friday and it never disappoints. It was my third time eating there - had the Prime Rib and it was excellent.
Jiko - not my cup of tea. I wanted to try something different, and I'm glad we did. I had the beef tenderloin and asked for it to be cooked medium. It was so well done I ate about a third of it and I can usually eat anything well done. The lady next to me ordered the same thing medium rare and she sent hers back it was also too well done.
I've never eaten at Shulas, but would like to try it sometime.

They haven't had it for quite a while at least not that I'm aware of. Somewhere between 1 and 2 years! :( But I did just look at a menu that's only a few months old and.......there's plenty on there for me to drool over ;)

It's been a couple years now--Uncle Romulos, do you recall exactly?

We ate there in Sept. 2001 and it wasn't there at that time. So at least then...

Yes, the Chateau is not on the current menu, BUT, if you call a few days ahead (call the restaurant direct) you can special request to have it made for you. Chef Phil is very accommodating and this is not a problem if ordered in advance.

Oh wow! Thank you Mike for that information!!!!!!!!! Don't see Chateau Briand on many restaurant menus any more! I will have to do this! :)

And when you do please tell us about it! I'm starting to drool ;)

I was looking at the menu for Shula's and the steak sizes look huge. I was wondering if people commonly share the steaks there?
