XXI Olympic Winter Olympics Games Thread

I disagree. She was definitely passing the Chinese skater on the inside.

Not sure what you are disagreeing with since I did not offer an opinion about what happened. The Korean was in the lead up until the last push/exchange. The Korean push/exchange was late, so the Korean fell behind by a few feet until the push, which propelled her back into the lead just as they hit the turn. I have heard a few analysts talk about it and they all said that it could have gone either way. Depends on what the viewer defines as "taking the lead"...

I thought she was passing on the inside as well.

With it taking as long as it did, I thought they were actually looking at a block that happened earlier in the race. When the US team made the push/switch, the Canadian girl who had pushed her teammate off, was directly in front of the the US team. She pushed then dirfted more towards the center of the rink then the outside of the rink, like you normally see them do after the swich. She was in the way to the point that the US girl had to come up outta her tuck to keep from running into the Canadian girl. It was about half way thru the race and the US team was still running with the other three teams. It was after the block, that the US team fell way behind. I've heard it stated during these games, that when you come up outta that tuck, it slows all your momentum down. I tried to rewatch the race online, but the computer here at work won't load it up. I'll have to watch it again at home.
I wondered about that, but even though it obviously impeded the American skater, the announcers never said a word. That was when we fell so far behind. From that point on, we were out of the race.

Has anyone watched the curling? I usually listen while puttering around the house and for some reason I swear I hear the ice cream truck there. Interesting sport, it looks easy but you know it is anything but easy. I wonder how much those stones weigh.

The bells you hear are probably from the fans. A stone weighs between 40 and 45 pounds and it is a lot harder than it looks.

Yes !!!

Canada has another Gold!

Way to go ladies!

Watching the hockey medal ceremony - that is one big pile of ceremonial broccolli!

M

That is what it looks like doesn't it. :lmao::

Now I hope the guys have what it takes to win on Sunday.

I was watching CTV coverage this morning about sore losers. Wish I tuned in sooner but they have Von as the top loser.

They were talking about what she did on the podium when she got her bronze medal. They had a picture of her bring out her gold as well and waving both. This to them was taking away from the gold medal winner. It was there golden medal moment . The commentator said it was like having a wedding in your beautiful dress and then showing up a in wedding dress at someone else wedding the next weekend. That was a good example.

Do you have a link or a pic of this? I was telling DH (the Vonn-ophile) about this and he doesn't believe me.

I definitely agree with your statement. I only wish that the Americans had skated a bit better to actually deserve the medal that they were awarded. I think them getting the bronze would be going down better if they actually were in the running for it rather than so far behind.

I also agree that they did look very sheepish as they were skating their victory lap.

They didn't skate great in that race but they qualified against lots of other teams to get into the gold medal final race, so I'm glad they put themselves into a position to win the bronze. Short track is very unpredictable, you just never know how it's going to play out.

Very good point, Okeydokey! I also agree wholeheartedly with you that Short track is SO unpredictable. The relay is also very stressful to watch, it is hard to know who is doing what sometimes.

Honestly, what is that stuff?

I googled it -

http://www.canadianfloristmag.com/content/view/2886/57/

"The predominately green bouquets contain eye-catching green hypericum berries, delicate green spider mums and broad leaf greens. The foliage consists of leatherleaf fern, loops of monkey grass and aspidistra leaves. A simple royal blue ribbon is hand tied around each bouquet and the handles are also wrapped in recycled paper."

Sorry I am not good with links and such. I tried to google it but couldn't find it. :confused3 But they did show it and others have seen it. Maybe they can find it . It was a close up of her showing both medals, they said she was on the podium at the time receiving her bronze medal and pulled out the gold too.
