WWYD? offered free upgrade

Only managed to get a studio but as the is only myself, DH and DD6 I think there will be plenty of room. I will be calling them every couple of days or so to see if there have been any cancellations (which I am sure there will be) so that I can get the 1 bed but at the end of the day I am just so happy I got an upgrade I dont care if its a studio or 1 bed.

anyone who would cancel their free dining with SSR or OKW upgrade would have to be nuts, but i wish you luck.

She was talking about the previous poster (Andy Lou & Meg) who she quoted in her post, and who had been hoping for a cancellation so she could upgrade from a studio to a 1-br. I agree, someone would have to be crazy to cancel this deal -- upgrade to DVC and free dining! Although, I cancelled my ADR for CRT (for 7 people, no less!) and some people would say that qualifies me as crazy. But in it's place we booked 'Ohana and and added an ADR at Concourse Steakhouse where we can watch Wishes from the balcony of the CR afterward, so I'd say it was a good tradeoff. Who knows the reasons behind other people's decisions? One person's crazy is someone else's great idea.

Not sure what you mean. Those that got upgraded have the upgrade and they also keep their free dining. That is what makes this such a great deal!!
DisneyNY,
Bell of the Ball was referring to this comment you made :

I think Bell of the Ball was suggesting you'd be awfully darn lucky to find a cancellation as this deal is just too good to cancel.

This is true. I'm going to have some financial issues this summer that normally would have made me cancel my trip. Not gonna happen, though--they would have to pry that OKW 1BR from my cold, dead hands.

I promise! Should be no problem... my DD8 says it's not a vacation if Mommy doesn't take a picture every 5 seconds. She's right, I average about 100 pictures a day. Isn't digital photography a wonderful thing?

However I can't promise that I'll have any pictures without at least one of my kids jumping into the shot at the last second. The little buggers love to do that.

Congrats on the upgrade. Just curious though, I called again yesterday for the upgrade and nothing was available at either resorts for the time we are going-8/27 to 9/3. It must be the time frame I am going because every few days when I call there is nothing available. I am feeling a bit envious. When are you going?

Keep trying....I didn't get my upgrade to SSR until 6/15. I think you have to hit it right after someone cancels.:thumbsup2

Would someone be willing to send me the pin code. I talked to a CM today and they said that the pin codes allow up to 3 additional upgrades. I am going to DW from 8/28 - 9/4. Thanks

Actually, the way it was explained to me was that a person traveling with other people (or a single family needing more than one room due to family size) - could get up to three rooms for the upgrade (obviously, they can't separate a family and leave one room of them at ASMu and the other upgraded to OKW). I do not believe it is just that a single pin code can be used 3 times on anyone. I could be wrong but this was my understanding.

I even had some difficulty getting more than one room and I have 3 families registered as my grand gathering (officially, in the system - all under the same GG number).

brymolmom is correct. The pin code can be used for up to three rooms on LINKED reservations. I had trouble upgrading one of my rooms because the CM who originally made the reservation put the wrong name on my brother's room. Instead of my name as the booker, it has a different first name and we don't know anyone with that name. The CM said the reservation HAS to have on it the name of the person who the pin code was issued to, and at least three matching pieces of information (address, phone number, email, etc.) so you can't just add yourself onto someone else's pin code. This has been covered several times on this thread.

Well I just spoke to a CM. She said that when people cancel they don't make those rooms available again and that I probably got in so late because they opened up another building.:cheer2:

Ok - so very new to this so bear with me here......

We (DS and I) are booked from 8/28-9/2 at POR - are they only offering the upgrade to people at the value resorts or to moderate as well?? And offering upgrades is this a regular thing they do and lastly since I booked through a travel agent would they offer that to me or only those booking directly through Disney?? :confused3

Any help would be appreciated.......Thank you!!!:yay:

Only for value resorts and as far as I have heard only people that booked direct through Disney have gotten the upgrade. I don't know how often they do this type of thing. It is the first time I have heard about one, but I am happy I got it!!!!

The best I understand (because CMs say different things to different people) is that some people from POP, ASMu and ASMo [edit: confirmed below] (maybe sports too) got emails telling them they got a free upgrade with a choice of SSR or OKW.

I think (but not sure) that those who got the emails booked directly on Disney's website or over the phone and their stay began between 8-26 and 9-1.

Some who either booked online or phone did not receive an email, but called CRO and were told they had a code attached to their email and/or reservation. They were also upgraded. Someone posted that those who went through travel agents may have also had a code, but not sure if anyone who used a travel agency actually got the upgrade.

There were a limited number of rooms as stated on the email. Some of the people with grand-gatherings or had listed others in their stay got emails, but others in their party didn't. After a lot of phone work, most of them were able to get the others upgraded too.

On the first day, many were offered a studio, but some were given a 1 BR. Seems that CMs who tried a 1 BR were able to do it so the word caught on and those who had studios called and were given a 1 BR. OWK 1 BRs were pretty much gone by the second day after the email.

Everyone got to keep their free dining and some got refunds if they paid for preferred view, and many others got refunds amounting to around $2-3 because of tax rates. Some people were able to add days to their stay, others were not.

According to the CM I spoke to, this was part of YOAMD. Others said the values were overbooked and they wanted to continue to fill free DDP because of value season, others said people were singled out as those who might buy into DVC (although no one will be required to go to a viewing/meeting/whatever it's called).

Some DVC members are upset (rightfully so) because they do not get free dining, nor do they get daily mousekeeping, and their dues probably amount to more than what these free upgraded people pay for their stay. Others are upset that people in groups all took 1 BRs, even if they only had 2 in a room.

Disclosure: everything written in this reply is not [entirely] my opinion - it's just what I've gathered from reading posts, and I'm over 40 and my memory is failing so I could be wrong... easily:rotfl: .

I got the upgrade email and I had booked directly on Disney's site on 5-6-07 for free DDP at ASMu. I called CRO within 2 hrs. when the upgrade email came in. My husband and 2 youngest kids are going. We are staying 8-27 to 9-1 in a 1 BR at SSR. I chose ASMu because I was impressed with ASMo and figured we'd hardly be in the room and since this wasn't a planned vacation, I wanted to keep costs down.

Edit: As for being a regular thing, I have read where similar things have happened. I don't know if it was a mass emailing like this though.
