My kids are selling some videos games on ebay. So far they have sold about a dozen. Saturday I received on of the envelopes back from the post office with everything but the video game in it. Apparently the envelope came open or ripped open and the game is not inside. I have submitted the claim form to the post office in hopes that they have the game but just don't know who it belongs to. I have also emailed buyer and let him know this. Should I give him the option of a refund? He paid shipping costs but did not opt for the insurance.

If you can't prove that the buyer got the video game you'll have to refund everything, including the shipping. All the buyer has to do is file a complaint with paypal and they'll take the money right out of your account.

PP is correct. Insurance is for your protection more then the buyers, just and FYI. Never make insurance optional...just tack it on!

Agree, refund.

As for sealing packages, I use a ton of clear packing tape. When you overlap the strips all the way around, mummifying the package, it practically becomes waterproof and indestructible. The only way to get the item out of the package is with heavy duty shears or a box cutter.

Packing tape is only a dollar at the dollar store. The kids will get a kick out of overwrapping the packages.

Thanks - that's what I was thinking anyway. That is what I would want if I were the buyer of the lost item.
