WW Weekly Weigh In--- Part 2

Hey all! New here!!
I joined WW (meetings and etools) on Thursday. I reached an all time high and realized I could NOT do it alone.
Was anyone else completly overwhelmed at 1st or is it just me??
Today was my first day on the points and I went over by 6!!:scared1: Thank goodness for the extra points every week or I would be in trouble:headache:
So HI!!!

So HI!!!

Welcome! The fact that you know you cannot do it alone is a great acknowledgment. Trust me none of us can, that's why we are at weight watchers and here on this thread too. You will get all the help you need.

I do both the meetings and the e-tools and for me find that is the key to my success. That and being part of this thread. So many great tips and encouragement to be found here. :goodvibes

It can be overwhelming at first but I read someone either at e-tools or here the first week or so just try and eat healthy and get in as many of the healthily guidelines as you can. Then week by week, incorporate another step in the process, staying within the point structure, then getting in all the guidelines, then adding exercise. You did not get to the weight you are now overnight, it's going to take some time to re-educate your body to eating properly. Trust me we'd all like to be at the size we envision overnight. Slow and steady is the way to do it. :thumbsup2

Again, welcome. Come here for all the support you need. Someone is always around to give it. When you want to eat for no reason, POST instead. That i what I do, especially on the weekends. :cool1:

I have to be honest. I was overwhelmed by the entire thing so I never really got on board. Then my DD and DDIL joined and since I do a lot of cooking I tried to cook point friendly meals, checking recipe sights. Well I decided to join but but they have done the legwork and research for me. I believe that it would have been even more information to absorb if not for the two of them.

One thing I find more helpful than anything else is the meetings. The folks in ours come early and they will share their tips, recipes and ideas. I think if you remember that most people need a learning curve for anything new you will be successful.

I agree! I would never had thought to buy the Greek Yogart if they hadn't raved about it. So many good tips and foods I've learned about just by getting to the meeting a few minutes early.

Thanks for the welcome all!!! I really appreciate it!!

Today is starting out rough:headache: My DH decided to make cheese omelet and bacon for breakfast:scared1: OFf to the points calculator.

It will get better. One thing is to swatch the kinds of foods that you like to eat. We like eggs and grains and dairy so CORE is working for us. Try journaling your meals to see if you are "spending" a lot of points that you could have for "free".

If anyone is looking for a light summer soup this is so good, totally free on CORE. I tend to change recipes around, this one was no exception.
Here is the original:

Cucumber and Yogurt Soup -- Good for Somersizers Recipe #64029

So simple, so delicious, and so legal for Somersizers!
by Mirj
5 min | 5 min prep
SERVES 4
  1. Mix all ingredients together.
  2. If using thick yogurt, run it through a blender until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Chill for several hours and serve.
I used more cucumbers, 1 large onion, 2/3 of a large container of plan FF yogurt, Chicken base and about 2 P water,Tastefully Simple Garlic Dill seasoning and juice from 1 whole lemon, S&P.

Ran the veggies through the Vitamix first, dissolved the base in hot water and added cold to make two cups and added that to blender. Put it in a large serving bowl and mixed in some seasoning and yogurt. I had seen the addition of stock in a different recipe and wanted to lighten it up. It was lighter than the original version and delicious.

Hi all,

I just needed a little support. I'm feeling like giving up. Last time I tried WW the pounds came off. It wasn't easy but there were results. This time I've been journaling and exercising but the weight won't come off. I have lost 3.8 lbs in 4 weeks. I weigh in tomorrow and am trying to stay positive and on plan but the scale at home hasn't changed. I'm sorry to ramble I really just need a good night sleep and a little encouragement. Thanks.

(does anyone know if fluoxetine can make you gain weight or make weight loss difficult?)

I just want to welcome you and send a :grouphug: I know we all want instant results but slow and steady is the way to go. You've lost an average of almost a 1 lb a week. Do not look at where you are, look at where you've started and where you can be if you keep up that weight loss in a year. 52 lbs lighter.

Are you eating all your points? I know the weeks I don't, I don't lose as much.

Good luck with your weigh-in tomorrow.

Sorry, I don't know anything about fluoxetine.

Hang in there! Maybe a good nights sleep will help. I am not sure about fluoxtine.

Mary Anne, I just wanted to say Thanks for helping this newbie! It seems like you are really willing to help others on this program!! YOu would be a great leader.

Pakhowe: 3.8 lbs in four weeks is amazing! I don't know how much weight you have to lose, but you might want to try reading some of the threads on the Less to Lose boards over on the weightwatchers.com. The average weight loss is .5-2 lbs, that is a healthy rate of weight loss. You are averaging almost a pound a week which is phenomenal! Many people (including myself) would kill to consistently lose a pound a week!

I think one of the biggest problems is that all of these advertisements for weight loss drugs and fad diets give us unrealistic expectations for weight loss. It makes us believe that it's possible, and normal, to lose 5-10 lbs in one week when in reality that could take you one to two months or even more.

Research has shown that the slower you lose, the more likely you are to keep it off. Also, anything over 2 lbs a week is unhealthy and WW can actually ask you to leave the program if they think you are not following it and are losing the weight too fast.

Are you familiar with the tools for living? This might be a good situation to use the reframing tool. Instead of thinking, "I can't believe it, I only lost 3.8 lbs in 4 weeks", think "OMG! I can't believe I've already lost 3.8 lbs in 4 weeks!"

Hang in there, you're doing great!

I meant to add: daily weighing is generally not recommended. Your weight fluctuates so much from day to day that it can be very discouraging. I'll give you a good example: On weigh in day I'll typically weigh myself beforehand on my WW scale so I know what to expect. Last week I got home and I weighed and it showed a little over a pound gone. Right before meeting I weighed again and in that time it had gone up so that I was actually over my weight from the previous week. At WW I was showed as having lost .2. All this was within about an hour of eachother and I had not eaten or changed my clothes or anything. If daily weighing is getting you down, you may want to stick to your meeting day and a check halfway through the week. Otherwise you might start playing mindgames with yourself and get discouraged.

So HI!!!

It can be very overwhelming, it's a lot of material to take in. What I did the first week (the first time) I did it, I just journalled everything and counted points, I didn't even try to follow. It was so eye opening. That alone changed my eating habits. I couldn't believe how many points I was consuming in one day. It really was eye opening.

Others have mentioned meetings- those are great. Other good resources are the WISH boards (of course) and the WW community boards. Some of the WW boards are great, some can be a bit snarky. Try lurking to see which one fits your personality. I love the less to lose board, those ladies are very nice and easy going.

The other thing you might want to consider is starting a journal here on WISH. If you put "comments welcome" in your title, people will read it and can give you encourage, tips, or advice. I have mine linked to in my signature.

Don't worry, it will become second nature before long. I am to the point now that I can typically guesstimate points if I dont' have my stuff with me. When I go back and check, I find that I am normally pretty accurate. I rarely have to look points up for my favorite foods because I'm used to it. I also find that it takes less to fill me up, and if I eat some of the higher fat or higher sugar stuff I actually feel a little queasy. My body has started getting used to my new way of eating.

Hi all
Just wanted to check in and say THANKS for all the support!:thanks: I think I must have been overtired and everything was getting to me. I had been away for a week and had a 9 hour drive home in the rain. The first thing I did was weigh myself because I missed last weeks WI and I had been trying to be so good on vacation. When I put everything into perspective 3.8 Lbs really is a great number and it's in the right direction--down.

I'm so thankful for all your support and optimistic views. I'm also glad I didn't just give up and blow it. I weighed in today and was down 1Lb. :thumbsup2

Thanks again!!

I agree with the journaling. It has been a HUGE eye opener of how much I was overeating.

And I am so glad you also noticed the snarkiness on some of the WW boards. I lurked and was a little scared to post:scared1:
