Although I never found the time to create a PJ, I found the information on this board so helpful in planning our wedding. I wanted to briefly share our experience.

First, what you really want to see, some photos! (Stay tuned for glad I/wish I and reviews.)

Glad I…

Had a welcome dinner off property. I looked into having a welcome dinner on property, but it was out of the budget (even a “meet and greet” with appetizers was too pricey for us). We ended up hosting a welcome dinner at Giordano’s, which is just a few minutes down the street from Downtown Disney. We had plenty of space and the food was great.

Ordered a groom’s cake. I ordered the cake from It’s Tasty Too and had it delivered to our welcome dinner. It looked amazing and tasted fantastic. My groom was totally surprised and loved it.

Had a Disney wedding. It really was magical and an experience we could not have had anywhere else. Our guests raved about how beautiful everything was, how great the food tasted, and how much fun they had.

Hired outside vendors. We had outside photography, videography, floral, chiavari chairs and a caricature artist. We also went off of the recommended list for our officiant. All of our vendors were amazing and I feel we got more value for our money by using them. Additionally, it gave us the ability to choose our vendors based on what we were looking for and willing to spend.

Requested DJ Miles. We originally were going to use the jazz trio, but around a month out decided it would be better to use a DJ. Boy am I glad we made that decision! DJ Miles was fantastic. He followed our request list (both play and do not play) and kept the party going. He had almost all of our guests dancing at a brunch reception, with no alcohol!

Surprised our guests with Mickey and Minnie. We originally were not going to have characters, but we decided to add them when we cut some other elements from our reception. We set up for a group photo and had them come through a door behind our photographer. So, I didn’t actually get to see the reaction, but I heard it!

Had a dessert party and piped in the music. After the reception was over, I knew we still had something to look forward to. It was a great way to end the day and have those last few moments with our guests. The music really completed the experience. One of our guests thought the fireworks were just for us, ha!

Stayed at the Contemporary. We were in the Garden Wing, which has its own parking lot (if you have or are renting a car-which we did). The room was nice and large enough to get ready in. The location was convenient to Magic Kingdom and of course the monorail. The only thing I feel it is lacking is that “homey resort feel”. Most of that is because of the theming and décor.

Wish I…

Didn’t plan anything the day we arrived and the following day. We were tired from traveling, checking in and all that took longer than expected, we had things to organize, emails to send, and phone calls to make. It was too much to meet up with family and friends in addition to everything else.

Had made requests for the “assorted pastries” at the dessert party. I was so specific with every other detail, but I wasn’t with this part of the menu. Besides the mini banana cream pies that we specifically asked for, and the mini cheesecake that was included in the assortment, I couldn’t tell you what the other pastries were. I had asked what they would most likely be and was satisfied with the answer. None of the things that I was told were there.

Hadn’t requested the Grand Floridian for our complimentary night. This is totally personal to me because the resort is beautiful and I really wanted to stay there, but…that lovely scent you smell when you walk into the Grand is apparently pumped into the building. Although it was tolerable for me in the lobby area, it was unbearable on the honeymoon floor and in the room. We immediately asked to switch to a different resort, but everything was booked because it was a vacation week and marathon weekend. So, we opened the door to let fresh air in and they sent up a humidifier. We decided to leave to escape the smell and went to Magic Kingdom, then to Epcot for EMH. When we got back, I quickly realized there was no way I could stay there-it was making me physically ill. Luckily, the night manager was extremely helpful and was able to switch us to the Polynesian, which we ended up falling in love with…too bad it was 3am by the time we got there!

Congratulations! Love your dress. I never noticed a smell at the GF :confused3

Great post! I don't know about anybody else, but I'd love to see shots of the reception, dessert party and groom's cake too whenever you get a chance. :goodvibes

Although I haven't noticed "Grand Floridian Smell," I have big issues with the scent they pump into the Beach Club lobby (I call it "Eau d' Nursing Home"), so I can understand how that would spoil your stay. We had a "smell" problem at the Grand Floridian too, but it was from a belligerent smoker next door. We were also transfered in the middle of the night, but just to another room. Wish they'd switched US to the Polynesian! :rotfl:

I’m not going to give a grade or a number, as I find that difficult. I’m just going to write my experience.

Disney:

Maxine Pollakis: Wedding Planner
Maxine was fantastic. She was enthusiastic and on top of things. She made quite a few suggestions that really helped our budget. She was detail oriented and a pleasure to work with. On the wedding day, she was just as wonderful. I'm grateful that we had Maxine as our planner.

Elizabeth Sutton: Floral Event Designer
I only worked with Elizabeth for linens, but she was always pleasant, prompt with responses, and fixed any issues in a timely manner.

Charles Miles: DJ
We originally were going to use the jazz trio, but around a month out decided it would be better to use a DJ. Boy am I glad we made that decision! DJ Miles was fantastic. He followed our request list (both play and do not play) and kept the party going. He had almost all of our guests dancing at a brunch reception, with no alcohol! Love DJ Miles.

Grand Floridian Catering
The food at our reception was delicious. Everyone raved about it at the reception (and since then!). What I wouldn’t give for a piece of brioche french toast right now! I actually had my maid of honor loosen my dress during the reception because there wasn’t much room for food. I was not going to be a bride who didn’t eat at her own reception!

Grand Floridian Bakery
I sent in a composite of what we wanted our cake to look like, along with color swatches. I’m really glad I did this, as the cake turned out pretty much exactly how we wanted it. The wedding cake tasted MUCH better at the wedding than it did at our tasting. I was really excited about this because I love treats. I ate leftover cake for days after the wedding.

Outside Vendors:

It’s Tasty Too: Groom’s Cake
I communicated with Heather via email. I sent her photos with a description of what I wanted and she understood exactly what I was going for. Based on what I told her, she was able to make a couple of edits so that all of the elements would work well together. Her prices were very reasonable and the cake was awesome.

Carolyn Allen’s: Dress Steaming
Setting up my steaming appointment with Carolyn Allen’s was easy and straightforward. I had to change the time of the steaming a couple of times and they had no problem with the changes. They came to our hotel room and steamed my dress, my mom’s, mother-in-law’s and maid of honor’s. They had both the steamer and an iron, which we needed. They worked quickly, carefully and quietly. I ended up feeling comfortable enough to leave my dress at bell services for them to pick up, clean, and ship back to me. It arrived exactly a month after the wedding (they informed me of the timeframe). I haven’t unpacked it yet, so I can’t comment yet on the actual cleaning.

Patricia LeJeune: Hair and Makeup
When I saw photos of Patricia’s work, I knew she was the person I wanted for hair and makeup on my wedding day. I have never questioned that decision. She creates such a flawless, natural, gorgeous look. She translated my vision for hair and makeup beautifully. She was also able to create lovely hairstyles for my mother and mother-in-law with very little direction. When things got a little rushed the morning of my wedding, Patricia was on the floor helping find the snaps on my train. This was after she tied the bow on my maid of honor’s dress. She is such a calming presence and a sweet (and talented!) person.

Jess Cumbie: Photographer
Simply said, the woman is a rock star. I mean that sincerely. Jess is truly invested in her work and her clients. She is professional, but fun. In the short time I have known her, it has been evident that she’s always learning, growing, and willing to try new things. Her work is incredible. From our engagement photos to our wedding day, we trusted Jess with some of the most important memories of our lives and she went above and beyond. It has already been decided that when we start a family, she will be flown to us to photograph the baby; that’s how much I adore this woman and her work. In the end, I love showing off my photos to friends and family…and after all, isn’t that what it’s about?!

Kat Small: Cinematographer
Kat has a way of capturing the small moments. Things others probably wouldn’t even notice. That’s why we initially contacted her. After viewing more of her work, this attention to detail proved to be true. Kat doesn’t just “point and shoot;” she has an artistic vision. Her work is beautiful. Most of the time, I didn't even notice she was there...but she was, filming away. Although I can’t comment on the final product yet, I love our wedding trailer.

Lee Forrest: Floral
Lee Forrest is truly incredible. My bouquet was stunning-I still admire it in photographs and I’m having it preserved. As I was walking down the aisle, I couldn’t help but steal some glances at our floral arrangements; they were gorgeous. Lee understood my vision from the first time I contacted him. His execution was flawless. Lee is a lovely person to work with; I enjoyed all of my communication with him. The wedding wouldn't have looked nearly as beautiful without him.

Glynn Ferguson: Officiant
Rev. Glynn was the perfect choice for our officiant. He is personable, funny, and puts you at ease. We met with him (and his wife!) a few months prior to the wedding to get acquainted. Chatting away with them was comfortable and enjoyable. Rev. Glynn was open to all of our ideas for our ceremony. I had no worries on the wedding day about the ceremony going smoothly…and it did! Many of our guests commented on how great he was. His personality is infectious.

A Chair Affair: Chiavari Chairs
Ann from A Chair Affair was a pleasure to work with. After one conversation with her, I felt comfortable and confident that our chairs would be delivered on time and set up exactly the way I wanted them. The chairs really added that extra something to the room and were set up perfectly.

Glenn Ferguson: Caricature Artist
Nope, not a typo! We had a Glynn Ferguson and a Glenn Ferguson. Glenn is an amazing artist. We hired him to draw caricatures at our pre-reception and reception. He was a huge hit! Not only is he talented, but also has a great personality. He created a full color caricature of us before the wedding from photographs. He brought it to display at the wedding and it was fantastic. He drew black and white caricatures at the wedding and I’ve loved every one that I’ve seen.

Congratulations! Love your dress. I never noticed a smell at the GF :confused3

Thank you! They said most people don't, but I'm really sensitive to scents and smells.

Great post! I don't know about anybody else, but I'd love to see shots of the reception, dessert party and groom's cake too whenever you get a chance. :goodvibes

Thanks! I will work on getting some up!

The closest I've been to the Beach Club is the Boardwalk...and now I'm going to keep it that way! No "Eau d' Nursing Home" for this girl. I'm shaking my fist at the smoker for you...some people :headache:

Like the other girls, I am anxious to hear and see more!!!

I love reading these! Thank you for posting this!!!! :D

And sweetie, you looked gorgeous. That dress is absolutely, positively breathtaking.

a CM told us on our honeymoon that the "smell" that i think (hope!) you are reffering to is some kind of piped in food thing - cannot remember if it was apple pie or the gingerbread thing, but something like that. i had never noticed it before and only did when he was talking about it...

your pictures are just lovely - you were a beautiful bride! congrats and thanks for sharing!! :thumbsup2

You're welcome! That's so nice of you to say, thanks. :goodvibes

I'm frequently glad I have a very under developed sense of smell.

Yes more photos please.

Haha. Working on it!

I'm not sure...it was more floral to me. I was frantically gathering our stuff for the grand escape when the night manager explained it to my husband.

Thank you and you're welcome!

You made a beautiful bride! I'd love to see more photos too :)

Thanks! Coming up!

No fancy photo of this one, but here's groom's cake. It was Transformers themed.

These are lovely!!!
I have a photo (unprofessional one) of my big, rugby playing son, aged 22, sitting in that little chair in the GF, watching cartoons!!!! We were off having post VR photos done with Randy and he had got bored!!!
I also have photos that Randy did outside Citricos through those decorative, iron gates!!!!
More please!!!

Thanks for sharing your day with us - I am so in love with your dress and flowers - perfect for the setting.....wonderful vendor reviews....

Sorry about the GF smell thing - my husband has a lot of allergies and so when we stay there he brings his mini-air purifier for the room - but we stay in the outer buildings and there is little (to none) smell there....:upsidedow

The groom's cake is too cute.....great job with that - next time we have a celebration in Orlando I'll remember It's Tasty Too for a special cake...

Congratulations on a beautiful event! :wizard:
