Wow! Incredible comp! My "tearful" story occurred approx 10 years ago when Disney offered the Food and Fun Package. We saved forever for the four of us to go and take my mom. It was my DD's first trip to WDW. We were staying at the Beach Club the week after Thanksgiving.
My husband became ill as soon as we got to Orlando with a stomach bug. We spent the first night off property and went to Sea World, where Shamu drenched us (we were in the handicapped area with my mom and could not move). Ruined our camcorder (it was in the bag). Had to go back to the hotel and change. Was wringing out my delicates 45 minutes after the fact! Could not use the camcorder for my DD's 1st trip to WDW!
We went to check in at the BC the next day, and the CM at the Front Desk was incredibly rude about everything. Explained the Food and Fun Package to me, and it no longer included any of the restaurants where we wanted to dine and already had ADR's. Before you shoot flames, I know they can change the plan, but it was virtually all of the good restaurants! Then I asked if there were any rooms available for early check-in as DH was so ill (around noon). Was sent to a room (I always check out our rooms before the family all goes up and we have the luggage delivered). Could not get the key to work. After several tries, a burly gentleman opened the door. They had not check out yet. Returned to Front Desk. CM became even ruder. By that time I had had it. Asked to speak to management and was sent over to Guest Services.
When it was my turn to speak to the CM at Guest Services, I was in tears with all of my tickets, F&F Package paraphenalia, etc., in my hands (I cry when I am angry). Now picture this . . . tears hitting the crap in my hands, me shaking due to all the stuff that had happened over the past 2 days, and telling the CM I had been planning and saving forever (in the middle of the lobby!). The manager rushes out, takes everything from me, listens to my story, summons a bellman, and sends us to a beautiful, first floor waterfront room (right next to the quiet pool closest to the World Showcase entrance). Perfection! The bellman asks if we are celebrating any special occasions during our trip, and OMG, I remember that that day was our anniversary! Totally lost track of days due to all the turmoil over the trip! The CM made ADR's at all of the restaurants where we wanted to dine, and he spoke to each restaurant manager to be sure they would take care of the meal with our F&F Plan. Champagne & chocolates were waiting for us when we returned from dinner that evening.
Now that is true customer service! With an extra serving of Pixie Dust! Fabulous vacation!
So tears can work wonders!
