Wow..some adults never cease to amaze me

I can't fathom spending $500 to take a family of four to MK for a day, and then wasting an hour sitting on the curb to stake out a better view of a parade. That just seems... weird. Some people really dig parades, though.

Yes, I would. And the same for my husband, although he would do it without my having to say something. It is simply good manners.

It really has nothing to do with manners at all. You want a clear view - get there early. No one is under any obligation to view a parade a certain way.

And sitting on concrete is NOT comfortable or good for you. Older people - and middle age people like myself have trouble getting up from sitting on the ground. If it was so comfortable why does everyone have sofas and chairs in their homes?

I've done parades at WDW and some at Disneyland and it's true. Some folks on the curb stay seated, some stand up. There's no rule and you can't expect that the person in front of you will always do it one way or the other. I've even seen parents standing on the curb put a child up on shoulders.

What if everyone else in the front row is standing? Would you still insist that your family sit in a sea of standing people so the people behind you could see? :scratchin

You do realize that some of those are staged photos, right? And many of the pictures you show of guests standing there also shows the lack of a curb to sit on. Which makes it different to begin with. Also, I have never seen that many people standing on the curb in the Magic Kingdom, ever. You can't judge by what are press photos.

So because you've never seen that, it must not be true? :confused3

Unless you told people behind you you planned to stand for the parade, I do think you were rude. Right or wrong people think the way you wait for the parade is how you will stay for the parade. And then to stand and also not allow kids in front of you? Not nice, and not something to be proud of, in my book. At the very least you should have told the people with kids behind you you planned on standing. That way they could have moved on and found a different spot.
So people standing for a show or fireworks who as it starts lifts their kid on their shoulders and blocks your view are rude too? We had a great view of the castle for the projection show and fireworks. Just as the projections began, a man two people ahead of us bends over and suddenly there is a child on his shoulders blocking our perfect view.
And what about the parents who think their precious darling can do whatever they want no Matter how it affects other people. We stopped at Friar's Nook to try one of their topped Mac and cheeses. We got our food and went to sit down at the small eating area - only one spot available. Suddenly here come bubbles popping over our food. A little girl is using a bubble gun in the eating area. I went over to the father and said "would you please have her stop blowing the bubbles. They are going over by our food" and went back to sit down. He did stop her but yelled Over to me that she is only 4 years old. At that point my husband told him we know that but how old are you that you allow her to blow bubbles in a dining area. The father's response to my husband was that Disney is for kids at which point I said "Yes, and according to Walt, it's for kids of all ages". I really wonder what kind of parent would allow bubbles to be blown where food is consumed. After all who likes soapy food? I raised 4 children and have 9 grandchildren and if any of them would have used bubbles in an eating area, I would have stopped them.

If we were blocking someone's view, we were there early. And it has everything to do with manners. Too many people don't have them. I don't sit on the ground because I use a scooter, so if I am going to see anything, I have to get there early. I also make sure that children can sit in front of me and see. Back when I could sit on the ground, I did. There isn't tiered seating for parades, so people should be polite enough to tier themselves instead of the typical response of I got mine, screw you. I have learned though to expect rudeness and be delighted when I find the rare guest at Disney that is polite.

This thread is the first I have ever heard of it being the norm for people on the curb to stand during a parade. I will admit that we don't often watch the parades at Disney because we don't feel it's worth the stress of the crowd but based on my limited experiences I would assume that people normally sit on the curb.

We were just at the MVMCP and watched the parade. I just went through my pictures to make sure I wasn't crazy and everyone as far as we could see in either direction was sitting (adults sitting with smaller children in front of them or on their laps).

We were standing behind a group saving spaces on the curb and the woman standing in front of us made a point to assure us that as soon as the parade started they would sit.

I will agree that those who take the time to hold a spot deserve a prime view. They are entitled to stand if they wish, but I would feel rude doing so. When we are in front, I make sure my family sits to allow another family a clear viewing area behind us. If we can double the viewing area by sitting, why wouldn't we? It really just seems like common courtesy to me.

I have to wonder how we got to the point where a kid blowing a bubble gun into your food is met with not "oh sorry, we didn't realize it was getting in people's food" to "She's 4 and Disney is for kids so butt out because you don't count." Or was it always like that?

Thanks for the Drew Brees photo from when the Saints won the Super Bowl!
I'm originally from New Orleans, where no one sits for a parade!

Apparently so.

Some people have never seen a dirty restroom in Disney either, so obviously it doesn't happen. Some people never had a problem with their FPs, so anyone who did is obviously incompetent or somehow at fault. Some people have never encountered a rude CM, so anyone who has is exaggerating or lying.

Seems to be the standard M.O. of a handful of posters.

It appears that the majority of parade viewers are standing in the photos. But, of course, they must be staged. :rotfl2:

You really can't tell a press photo from a spontanious shot?

Look at the shots again. Most of the people who are standing are doing so because there is not a curb to sit on.

I never said it was unheard of for people to stand. But in going to the parks at least once a year for almost 20 years I am sure the majority of people sit when they are up front on the curb. Staged photos for the press not included. Pay attention next time you are in the parks. I'm not wrong.

Maybe, just maybe, others have had a different experience then you on the other 364 days when you are not there. Why is that so difficult for you to grasp? :confused3

I think most people sit because they are tired. I know that's why I do. I don't particularly like getting dirty but I will sit when I've been running around the parks all day and I'm beat. Granted I do try to be aware of who is behind me to allow them viewing space but I sit when I'm tired and stand when not. I am also happy to stand away from the front row. I can see the floats just fine. Unless I am taking pictures I don't care if there are people in front of me. I'm fact I Fped the FoF parade and stood back against the rail. Any pictures I took were of the main characters with the castle as a backdrop so I can edit peoples heads out later. What I don't get is the family who will use up all this front row space with a stroller while their kids stand. Park the stroller against the back rail or something. (Yes we had a stroller with us and it was parked back away from the front row).

I think people on here see things to black and white. On our last trip we were sitting waiting for the Once Upon the Christmas time parade. I have low blood pressure a few minutes before the parade started my legs started to hurt so I HAD to stand up. So all of a sudden I am "rude" according to some people in this board because I don't want my legs to hurt? I am 5' tall so having kids stand in front of me is usually not an option either. I think that unless you get first row seats you can't really expect unobstructed view. There has been plenty of times when we were in the second row and I didn't complain or got upset because someone stood up, it was my fault for not getting there with enough time to get goos seats.

My observation from November was 3 "rows" sitting and one or two standing. So, three people deep from the curb back, and then behind them about 2 people deep standing. Those sitting on the curb stayed sitting. Those blocking the garbage cans were happily moving or even helping others throw their garbage away.
