Wow.... rumor basic writing on ears is no longer free :(

Not a rumor. Very much true. A few years ago I tried to get my VMK name on a hat and could not get it done.

If your name is Patrick, you can get Pat, but if your name is Patrick and you have red hair, they will not do Rusty, for example. (albeit lame example, but I could not come up with something better at this hour. hehe)
That is interesting huh? Wonder why~ Probably just stops anyone from putting offensive stuff on their hats dead in their tracks :confused3

That's my guess. Instead of making the CMs working at the shop on that given day make a judgment call on what's "okay," proper names only makes it very black and white.

I remember back in maybe 1993 or 1994, one of my friends who thought she was being cute and clever (operative word being 'thought'). She was a fan of the old TV show, "Beavis and Butthead." She decided to get some ears and she asked for "Butthead" to be embroidered onto the ears, in honor of that character. The CM clearly stated to her that they could not do it (about which I was secretly relieved because I thought she would have looked stupid tromping through DLR with Butthead ears on her head). I think they said something about not doing nicknames and also not doing any 'famous character' names or some such thing as well, in addition to the fact that it was a verging on being too risque. I was just glad they told her no!;) It made me wonder what kinds of 'ideas' those CMs hear for what to stitch on the ears - they probably get some wild requests from guests!:rotfl:

What makes me kind of sad is that the CM's are not doing the embroidery by hand anymore. At least this is what I read today on miceage:

"The basic embroidery, which was previously done by hand, but phased out to computerized machines in recent years, remained free. Not anymore."

Awwwww. Do they still do it by hand in Frontierland? (Or some of the ear vendor locations other than Main Street?) They always did such a good job!

forgive the BOLD writing if that is what you were talking about, but i have been bashed for bold writing on other boards, LOL, but its for a reason. i do not see well. i have problems reading fine printed posts. even with glasses. reading small or fine letterage is hard for me. and it stinks that even when i write it out it doesnt show up bold till i post it but atleast when i read mine after it is posted to proof it, it is bold for me. sorry if that bothers anyone. if the CAPS bothered someone, well, im a writer, and caps are used to emphasise a specific comment or word in a sentance. they are a useful tool to make sure something is understood and not taken in a different definition. but i apologize to anyone who doesnt understand that. but yes i create quite an emphasis on the fact that people are complaining and i dont agree. and to the dis person who said if they charge for FP they will never return, then you must not be a very big disney fan, or a miser. because like i said ALLLL other parks do charge for this, do not take it for granted as it is very awesome that it IS free. i believe it always will stay that way, but for heavens sakes it is a vacation destination, not a place i go once a month and if they DID happen to start charging i would still go. i love me some disney! anyways, like i said if someone didnt like bold, or caps, now you have the explanation for both:) on another note, what do they charge for lockers?

Yes it's a fact that every little thing is going up in this economy.

Everything but my paycheck.

It's kinda like kicking a person when your down. I mean they raised park entry prices too... So it all adds up to a punch in my wallet.

Aspinoza, just so you know, I find bold writing without capitalization nearly impossible to read, so I (and I assume others) just skim over your posts.

im getting tired of hearing people here complain about rising costs of various things at DL. first off, anything, anywhere that you have personalized, there is a fee! but not just that, the ENTIRE economy is down, true, some of these companies still arent really loosing money and are rich as gold, but you can bet if the economy is down, and food, gas, necessities, ect. goes up, then so will EVERY SINGLE thing else! how can people sit here and complain!? why should we expect disney to be the ONLY company out there NOT raising prices within this economy? seriously. its vacation anyways. how often do you go? complain about the grocery cost or something else that SHOULD be complained about. i dont like rising costs either, but there is no reason to bash disney. they are doing what everyone else does in this situation. oh and just to add, what about things that are completely free?? here is a GREAT example, how about fast pass? i think many of you are taking disney for granted. go anywhere else and see how much a fast pass type item is. we went to six flags, and for just the two of us, the "flash" pass was 100 bucks. its almost 200 for 4 people! so seriously, please stop complaining, or dont go there!

It's not just a vacation for everyone, for some of us it's a weekend family destination and we are there quite a bit. But, we don't get ears every trip either so we could care less if the price is raised by $3.00.

lol but.......incase you didn't know :) apparently, oh boy another rumor, I guess..... I read this when I read that the price was going up;
they will only put official names on hats. No nicknames or the like I guess if they feel it's questionable they (CM) will ask for ID. Does anyone know this to be correct? Lol
I have never tried to have anything other than our given names. Just curious :)

This is absolutely TRUE!! And they even questioned my DD's names...DD9 wanted her first & middle name on the hat, they even refused to do that and then the CM got really rude when I told her what name to pu ton her hat because apparently she thought that was a nickname. Ummm, no, it's her name Thank You very much.

They didn't do it by hand when my girls got their hats a couple years ago. They did it with the machine and they look great.

Yeah they wouldn't let DH get "bone daddy" on his Jack hat.

I was also secretly relieved LOL

She DID, however, let him put Jack. His name isn't Jack..and she full well knew it ;)

Drat! There goes my idea of having "IDIS" in green thread on my ears. Do you think they would believe me if I said my name was Idis? ;)

okay well i think for 90 % of people it s just a vacation. BUT.... i have family who lives within 2 hours and they dont go all the time, almost never because they just dont. however if IIIIIIIIIII lived there id be there all the time lol. but i still consider it to be a vacation spot even when we live only 4 hours from. what i mean is, it is a vacation destination for most people, so people should expect to pay money for it. i mean its not like some, local theme park, or six flags or something. disney is a major park so i do expect them to treat it that way by keeping prices up on things. anyways, i dont think 3 bucks is alot though.

Now I have to agree, yes it's a little tough to read. I wear glasses so that may also not be helping, but all the bold creates like a weird optical illusion for me :3dglasses, and becomes a little straining to read. I don't mind if you use bold, but wanted to mention that it is hard on the eyes .

for me its opposite. regular lettering looks wavy and broken up, i cant see it, with or without glasses. but the bold is thick enough for me to read. different eyes, different vision. but that is why i use it. i really can not believe you can read regular type! the bold i dont squint or strain at all almost, but the regular letters, its impossible to not strain and squint and it hurts. i used to have a pituitary tumor that pushed on optical nerves and cause bad issues with my vision and IS prone to grow back and believe it has, as i am having these issues with vision again and headaches but there is not much i can do about it but wait for my MRI results and go back on meds if it is back. if its not back then i guess i just have crappy vision. not much i can do about it though. with or without glasses. its so much easier for me to proof read my posts that way. i cant read anyone elses without strain and pain, lol, i HATE the way regular type looks. it just is too hard to read! but i guess i wont proof read this one since so many people have a problem that i cant see the same as them so ill post it regular so forgive if there are errors in it as i wont proof it.

OK, I would love to see his hat say that :lmao::lmao::lmao:

coughourchickwasatthemadhattercough

"Ohhh sorry I don't have my id?" LOL
:lmao:

I am a disney nut, but as you say its a vacation and yes money has to be spent, but your looking at your situation, not others and thats just not fair. See we all do not have big bucks, and scape our azz's off to get there so our kids can have there dreams fulfilled. I raise grand kids, single and work and can barely walk these days as I have severe debilitating back legs and neck damage, diabetes, and fibromyalgia. I work, do not get disability but work as hard as I can possibly do to make sure we get to go once a year. It takes me all darn year to save up, and you know what, $3,00 is not much, but it adds up with all the kids. they all have ears, and I can embroider there names at home for free. Im not paying what I can not afford or can do my self. Im not begrudging folks who can and do pay for it, for me its a choice not to pay it.
So your saying if we do not expect to spend a fortune then we just are not disney nuts? Pay for fast pass? It took me a year to save up for the food, motel the flights, parking for the car at the airport we have to drive 110 miles to get to. and to boot rent a scooter so I can get thru the park with out falling down every 10 feet. Please, please do not tell me Im not a disney nut for paying for embroidery, or even ever paying for fast passes, I just could not come up with the money. I raise 3 grand babys,( since birth) no help no child support, I work my azz off to get my babys to the park so when they grow up they can tell there kids..... my mom ( granny) did everything she could to get us to disneyland ! I think Im entitled to say hell no on some things :) at least hell no out of my pocket, and still be a disneyland lover :)

Oh and the caps I now understand, thank you for explaining. Have a great night :)

I wish we had a six flags and or some theme park!! we do not, and would have to drive a long way to find one. man my kids go nuts when the carnival comes to town.
vacation? whats that? My kids run me from morning until night, Im more tired when I come home form disneyland then if I just went to work every day LOL
and I wish I had family 2 hours from a park, That would save me a ton in motels :lmao:

Im not arguing with you , just letting you see a different side of life.....and income.
