Wow.... rumor basic writing on ears is no longer free :(

We bought our ears this past Tues, July 28th. The basic embroidery was free. I've never bought ears in all my DLR trips, so I expected to pay for it. I saw the $7.00 sign and thought that is what it cost, lol. Then the CM informed me that was just for custom fonts and colors, that I had free choices. Yippee!! The girls wanted gold anyway. My 7 yo was even surprised it was free, she exclaimed, "I can't believe gold thread is free, it's so fancy". Smart move DLR- calling it gold instead of yellow.

Thank you mamaofthree... that is what I thought. When I was there in june I saw a father buying his daughter a hat in the mad hatter and they embroidered it. I was not paying close attention, but I was relatively sure that there was not an additional charge. I did not buy set of ears on this last trip, I just brought my old one from my Oct 08 trip, which is what I will do on my next trip. That way I can save some more money for pins.

I hope it stays free for the basic, but if it doesn't that is not going to stop me from buying them for my kids.. they love them..

im getting tired of hearing people here complain about rising costs of various things at DL. first off, anything, anywhere that you have personalized, there is a fee! but not just that, the ENTIRE economy is down, true, some of these companies still arent really loosing money and are rich as gold, but you can bet if the economy is down, and food, gas, necessities, ect. goes up, then so will EVERY SINGLE thing else! how can people sit here and complain!? why should we expect disney to be the ONLY company out there NOT raising prices within this economy? seriously. its vacation anyways. how often do you go? complain about the grocery cost or something else that SHOULD be complained about. i dont like rising costs either, but there is no reason to bash disney. they are doing what everyone else does in this situation. oh and just to add, what about things that are completely free?? here is a GREAT example, how about fast pass? i think many of you are taking disney for granted. go anywhere else and see how much a fast pass type item is. we went to six flags, and for just the two of us, the "flash" pass was 100 bucks. its almost 200 for 4 people! so seriously, please stop complaining, or dont go there!
wow anger issues?? seriously can people talk with out this kind of our burts? she was voicing an opinion, so was I, really is this a crime to disagree any more?

3$ doesn't break it for me, but I started this thread because it is relevant to other price hikes around the park. Albeit 3 little dollars.

Shouldn't this be considered news for trip planning/budgeting? Gee I would like to know since I am anal when it comes to both. I don't think it's complaining, yes it's a fact that every little thing is going up in this economy. But wow it sure was a service that has been around since Walt himself.

It's just news people seriously.. Lighten up :confused3
:lmao: I hear you ;)

Okay, this is yet another thread that is taking on a definite 'tone' that is off-putting and verging on hostile. I tried to temper things in the other hot button thread and yet the 'tone' continued. So I will say the same thing here that I said there - this is a relevant topic that is worthy of being discussed and I would hate to have to lock the thread because it is becoming too heated. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on the subject and people can feel free to weigh in with those opinions, but please do so in such a way that is respectful to everybody and not argumentative, insulting or imflammatory so I can keep this thread alive.:goodvibes

its not anger issues at all. alot of people strongly voiced their opinions that they thought it was rediculous, and i strongly voiced mine about it being rediculous that people were complaining. by the way i wasnt refering to the OP. however, i wrote a paragraph to explain WHY i thought it was rediculous to complain. perhaps those complaining should write a paragraph on why they think the price hike is rediculous then. i dont think its a heated debate. on and i THINK you were writing out bursts? not sure by your spelling but if that is what you meant, its not an outburst at all. i like to be very THOROUGH in my opinions. so others can voice one, so shall i. not bashing anyone in particular at ALL. i feel very strongly about the issue though and have seen several complaints about different price hikes in threads just the past few days, and i grew tired of it so i threw in my two cents. just like anyone else.

if disneyland ever starts charging for FP, i will seriously never go there again, regardless of how much i love the place.

as far as the mickey ears go, it's a bummer that the personalization is no longer free. although $3 probably wouldn't keep me from buying a pair (anything higher would though, probably).

If there isn't a special story behind that picture (a certain shop, for certain things, etc) and it's true, I'm of two minds on it.

One, I kinda wish they would have just raised the price on the hats that can have embroidery. After all, the hat that someone stole from our stroller had NOT been "named" b/c DS didn't want to ruin it. I'm sure that it would have been put right back, or easily found in L&F, if we'd put his name on it, as it's not a usual name in America (unless there had been a huge Irish group of men at the parks when it happened). So it definitely pays to have your name on it.

But then...that would take away the choice, for those who don't want their name on their hats, to have (well, really...continue to have) the embroidery fee included.

So then i think it's kinda nice. It means the hat prices have raised (if they've stayed the same price but now don't include the embroidery, that's a raise), but you're getting more choice to embroider or not embroider a name.

maybe take your caps off, your hollering :lmao:
ok, take it easy..... being through in your opinions is one thing, but the caps and capital letters is a bit much.
Im off to have a nice glass of wine.........;)

Can anyone tell me what kind of hats they sell at the parks? Do they sell cute Minnie Mouse ones? Any pics??

No pics, but they still have Minnie hats. They have all sorts of different hats now. They still have traditional pre-made ones, but what they're doing now is letting people create their own - like a Mr. Potato Head, lots of different parts and accessories you can snap onto a base, but can make the cost more expensive.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

And regarding the stitching, I just went and bought one in July, and the Standard Traditional yellow stitch is still free. They have fancy additions, color thread, and embroidering that costs extra - but it's optional and you can still get a simple hat with a free name.

I didn't know they were now using a computer guided machine, I remember when it was embroidered by hand. The 'by hand' method seemed to take less time to do, the computer job took forever!

I make a vinyl decal with a personalized name, and like traditional Disneyland it is free to include your name :earsboy: :

$3 isn't bad. I would pay it. Now if I could just come up with a cool name to put on instead of my own ;)

I just confirmed on the phone with Disneyland that it is now $3 for the yellow standard. Fancy additions are more from there.

In an effort to help keep peace, ashpinoza's posts are not showing as caps on my screen. - cheers -

lol but.......incase you didn't know :) apparently, oh boy another rumor, I guess..... I read this when I read that the price was going up;
they will only put official names on hats. No nicknames or the like I guess if they feel it's questionable they (CM) will ask for ID. Does anyone know this to be correct? Lol
I have never tried to have anything other than our given names. Just curious :)

Not a rumor. Very much true. A few years ago I tried to get my VMK name on a hat and could not get it done.

If your name is Patrick, you can get Pat, but if your name is Patrick and you have red hair, they will not do Rusty, for example. (albeit lame example, but I could not come up with something better at this hour. hehe)

What?! They're charging now? Jeez, I was just there like 3 weeks ago! My receipt says free, well glad I bought it when I did - though it wasn't for me :confused3, it was a gift for the 3 year old I went with, it was his first time.

Man, those hats aren't all that cheap, $3.00 is ok, could be worse, but s_cks that they're charging for that now :headache:.

I'm going to re-read all the previous posts to see what the "caps" drama is all about :cheer2:. - yeah, I'm bored, and a little hungry :upsidedow.

IDK if she really meant caps or just "bold" typeface. On my screen it's very "bold" lol
