Wow. Just Wow...

Again, only the MULTI-DOSE vials (those vials that many doses of vaccines are drawn out of) have thimerosol.

ALL SINGLE INJECTION SYRINGES DO NOT HAVE THIMEROSOL.

Deb -

We got the seasonal vaccine a couple of weeks ago, and when we got into the room the vaccine was already loaded into individual syringes. How would I know if those were single dose, or previously-prepared from multi-dose vials? Would the nurse have drawn from the vial while I was in the room?

Not that it really matters to me, I was just wondering.

Oh that's great too!
Of course, for whatever reason, our vaccine is a different formula than the US?:confused3

The only way you would know, would be to ask.

I heard it from more than one person including from the child (13 yr old whom said his mother told him) of a nurse. No I have not studied up on it myself.

I did say I HEARD!

Unfortunately, this is the way all the rumors get started. Glad you have the correct information now.

Our health department is also the only place administering the vaccine. I am on a local volunteer list and the health department is desperately seeking volunteers to administer the vaccine and to do the paperwork processing.

OP--maybe your area is doing the same and those were volunteers processing you in and they had very little training.

Not to knock all nurses out there, they are GREAT people in a tough profession; however, some of the worst medical information I've received has been from nurses. Not usually the ones that work in hospitals, but the ones in the doctor's offices. Geez, you just wouldn't believe...

Sorry, but I wouldn't be complaining.. Do you know how lucky you are that you were even able to get it????? Count your blessings..

I agree. Ask the nurse how the vaccine was drawn up.

When my son and I got it at the beginning of October there was hardly any line and the health department had people prescreening and passing out forms while you stood in line, 3 people taking the forms at a table at the end of the line and then about 5 or 6 nurses giving the vaccines. The total process took less than 15 minutes for us to both get the mist. They have you make appointments here though, so maybe that makes things go a little more smoothly?
My husband took my daughter to get it at the Navy clinic yesterday and was in and out in just a few minutes too.

Believe me, I'm grateful I was able to get it.

Regardless of the reason I or anyone else was at the clinic, the way it is run is horrendous.

We received notification from DD's school that she'll be able to get botht eh H1N1 and the seasonal vaccine at school... in January

She had the flu last week; though the doctor wouldn't test her for H1N1, I'm kind of glad she's gotten it over with, and hopefully will have built up some immunity!

lots of people are not aware of this. My Girlfriend who's one daughter is hearing impaired and been desperate to find it because she can go totally def if catches any flu. Her Doc said that he will not have it for another 2 weeks. I did research for her last week and found out that our County's clinics were giving it to kids and Preg moms....

she went down last week. Her kids will also be flying back east for Thanksgivings so she was also worried about flying and the air in the plane.

There was no line at all she said. Kaiser has had it for over 3 weeks already....going on 4 this week. But they are always ahead of the game. YAY for Kaiser.

I went to get my dd3 2nd dose yesterday and my bff took her kids with us and it was pretty fast...her sister (who bff says is in a cult like church) called her screaming at her for letting her kids get it claiming that people have been DYING from the vaccine and that it has NOTHING in it to prevent h1n1! she just hung up on her....they do not even allow their kids to go to the dr....

Actually...I now have HEARD a different opinion from someone on the dis. I have not seen proof yet from either opinion. ;)

Check out the CDC website and do your own research. Better than any "opinion." :thumbsup2

I also received the mist from the county health department. I'm estimating there were 60 people in front of me. I was in and out in exactly 30 minutes. The efficiency of the entire process still amazes me. OP, I'm sorry your experience was not the same.

Hoping everyone waiting on the vaccine is able to get it very soon...

DH and I found out that the 10 or so public health clinics in our city had the H1N1 flumist vaccine available to anyone. We decided to go this morning.

The clinic opened at 7:30 am. We arrived and got in line outside at about 7:10 am. I'd say we were about 6th in line. 5 people in front of us.

They opened the door at 7:30 am, we went in and formed a line in there. It was 45 minutes before we were able to SIGN IN. Yes, it was a 45 minute wait just to SIGN IN. I have no idea why it took that long to sign in 6 people.

We got our form, filled them out, and turned them in - all in about 2 minutes. This was at about 8:20 am.

Apparently the process is that we fill out the form, give it back, they enter the information into the computer, they give us the form back, and THEN we can get the vaccine. At about 9:30 am, we got our forms back. The form was front side only and only abut a third of it was filled out by us (name, address, etc). It took them an hour and 10 minutes to enter five lines of information into the computer. Remember, there were only about 5 people in front of us. We then immediately went back to get our vaccine. The nurses that are administering the vaccine had been there since 7:30 am (as had we) and we WERE THE FIRST to get the vaccine today. So, they weren't backed up in the vaccine area. Plus, we (the taxpayers) were paying for 2 hours time of 4 nurses to sit around and wait for the front office people to get their act together. What a complete waste.

If this is what public health care is going to be like, I'll vote HELL NO!!!! It was just absolutely nuts.
Ignoring your obvious attempt at a political discussion, have you considered that those people working at the Health Department had more things on their plates than just giving you a shot? They are hard at work every day of the year. On the days that they give out vaccines, they still do all that other stuff. Plus, perhaps they were short staffed which resulted in their getting a slow start. Believe me, they don't want a long line of whiny people standing around any more than you want to be there.

but you cant get the mist is you have asthma because it will cause asthma attacks
If the asthmatic patient didn't want to be exposed to the trace amount of mercury, he could still get the shot. He would just need one of the individual doses. That may result in his making more of an effort to get vaccinated, but that is the way it should be.

There are also many more ingredients in the mists which people who have allergies cannot have. DS' school is having a clinic in two weeks and the whole family except DHS has had "suspected" cases of H1N1 *not confirmed because the state won't test anymore but that's a whole nother issue.* So I called the Drs. office to ask if I should have the kids get it anyway. The response was absolutely either one (shot or mist) as long as they didn't have asthma or other lung or heart conditions and weren't allergic to x, y, z or... But if they had those conditions they couldn't get the mist only the shot. I can't remember exactly what things they couldn't be allergic to but it was a long list; My kids don't have any allergies so I have to admit I didn't pay attention to the list.
