What a great topic. I have actually thought about this for some time now, but never went. A local jeweler advertises this every so often. So I thought I would go check it out.
I have only read a samll portion of the thread, but wanted to ask this, since so far, I haven't found the answer, and see itasked several times.
I have some rings and a diamond tneeis bracelet. Do they buy the stones? Or do they pluck them out and give them back? I really don't wnat the stones, so if they bought them ,that would be great. Or do we have to take the stones out ourselves? I would have no clue how to even go about that.
I am so mad too, becuase about 4 years ago we moved and I threw out all my old jewelry I never wore. I know there were at least to ID bracelets. UGH!
Also, how do you know if it is gold or costume? I have some gold peices my aunt gave me, and some costume. I know at one time she told me one was worth $500 (at least I think she bought it for that) but needed a clasp fixed. I never did, and I honestly can't remember which peice it is any more, as I have two that look alike, and another with a broken clasp too that I don't know where I got it. LOL!
So will I look like a fool bring this stuff in, and it being costume? LOL! I also have some Monet stuff. I beleive that is costume, but can someone tell me for sure. I have earings that are not marked in anyway that I can see. Any way to tell or just take it in and hope.
I think I'll keep my eyes open at garage sales now. I never look at jewelry when I do go. I haven't been out yet this year, but maybe I'll venture out tomorrow. LOL!
