WOW - I just sold my old gold........

This might have been answered here but there are so many pages to go through. If you have something that says 10Kt gold plated is it worth anything to send? I just found some more broken stuff in a drawer and I want to add a little more to it but if its not worth sending then I wont.

For USGB I recall that they didn't take any plated items.

Holy smokes!! That is the biggest I have heard of! Congrats!! I think I would upgrade to a deluxe for that trip!!!;)

Hi all,

Found this thread some time last week, and have been trying my best to read through most of it, but geez... over 120 pgs!?!? Needless to say, I don't think I read EVERY page... :rotfl:

Anyway, you all have inspired me, so I just sent my gold off to USGB today. I had about a hair over 1oz. So, here's hoping that I get a good offer. I'll take just about ANYTHING at this point, because I leave for WDW in less than 2 weeks (see ticker below), and I would LOOOOOOVE to have some extra spending cash!

Thanks to all who posted in the billion posts before me. You were my inspiration. I would have never thought of this if I hadn't found this thread! :flower3:

Just heard from USGB and the payout is ..... wait for it...... $3100!    Disney, here I come. :dance3: :cloud9:

Woohoo! Congratulations!

Are there any other hallmarks? It seems strange that the hallmark would specify 10K and gold plated. The only thing I can think of is the bulk of it might be sterling with some 10K accents or something? Is there another hallmark that says "sterling" or "925" or something like that?

Let us know what they give you. I am thinking about trying it, but I don't have a lot.

I didn't have a lot, either. My list:

4 necklaces
4 small mismatched earrings (2 were hoops the others were stud-types)
1 bracelet
7 rings
2 charms

when I put it on the postal scale at work this morning, I must admit I was a little disappointed because I was expecting it to weigh a bit more... but, I'm not complaining!! "Found Money" is the best kind...!! :rotfl:

I should (fingers crossed) get a call sometime tomorrow with my offer. I will definitely post my results whenever I get them.

I got my check in todays mail from USGB! I know some people are hesitant because this might seem too good to be true. But trust me, it is. And I am $860 the wiser!

:cool1:

OH MY GOSH!!!! What did you have????

I had 6 necklaces, 13 braclets, 8 single earrings, a few rings and some charms. These were all the pieces that I no longer wear. I've collected gold - no less than 14K since I was a teenager, so most of these were purchased a looong time ago.

I actually have some silver that I might send in also. :goodvibes

is it only jewelery they will buy? just curious about the silver aspect. i have lots of silver plates, and tableware type stuff.

I didn't have much either, i had 5 necklaces, 1 ring, 2 bracelets it weighed under an oz on the postal scale, i think it was 0.7 or 0.8 so not much
I just checked goldfellows site for my amount of payout and it says $133.87
I was not even expecting $100 so a nice surprise!
wish i could dig up some more, but i turned into a silver person, so i don't have a lot of gold!

These two companies don't handle flatware or tableware. There was a discussion somewhere in the thread, but I don't recall what was recommended for those items.

Also, you won't get much for the silver. I turned in a little over 3 oz. of silver when I sent in the gold and I think the payout for that was less than $20. of my entire payment.

If you have some pieces that dont have any markings anywhere on it, should you send it? Is it more than likely not gold? I have some junky junk that I would probably trash anyway with no markings anywhere.

Also where would be a good place to sell silver dollars?

Got my phone call with my settlement offer yesterday evening. I'm getting $221.xx.

It's a bit less than I originally thought I might get, based on the what the postal scale said... BUT, then I remembered that I failed to take into account that there were a few items that had stones in them, so that added to the weight on the scale. And of course, since the price of gold went down a bit between the day I sent it off and the day I got the call.

About 60-65% of what I sent was 10k, and 35-40% was 14k.

I am happy, though, because that is money that I didn't have before, and just in time for my trip!

I used USGB, and they were quite friendly to me. The person who called me was very nice (I think his name was Rob).

As for the timeline, I sent it by FedEx on Tuesday (it got picked up Tuesday afternoon), and I got my call yesterday (Wednesday) at about 6pm. :)

Has anyone ever gone to the gold selling events they have at the local hotels? There was an ad in the paper yesterday for one this Sat, Sun and Mon....Do you think it would be worth the trip over? I don't have much...Maybe 1 or 2 bracelets (10k and 14k) and maybe a chain or 2....Would I even get $50, do you think?

I don't remember the name of the company, but there was one here a few weeks ago and they were run out of town. Did not have correct permits and could not get them.:confused3 :confused3 :confused3
