WOW - I just sold my old gold........

I'm sooo excited. I stopped at a garage sale this afternoon (I know, on a Thursday-so cool cuz I beat out some of the "people in the business" garage salers, as my grandmother would call them:rotfl2: ), and asked if she had any jewelry. She said she'd have some but would be putting it out tomorrow. I was much bolder than I typically am and asked if I could see it before tomorrow since I'd be working and wouldn't have a chance to stop by...so she pulls out three boxes of all types of things. A bunch of costume jewelry, a lot of sterling (that she thought was gold), gold plated stuff....and...a whole bunch of 14K items!:cool1:

For $100. I bought:
a double strand of cultured pearls (keeping)
a sterling silver cubic zirconia tennis bracelet (keeping)
a 17 inch 14K necklace with 11 cultured pearls (may keep:confused3 )
a single 14K hoop earring (selling)
a 14K heart with diamond chip pendant (selling)
a 14K "B" diamond chip pendant (selling)
a 14K B pendant with a small diamond (selling)
a 14K flat heart pendant with 1 pearl, not sure if the necklace is 14K or not (the clasp has writing on it, but it's worn down so I can't read it)-selling
an 18" 14K chain with filigree pendant (selling)
a 25" 14K chain (selling)
a 20"14K chain-very heavy, boxy looking chain (selling) ** edited to say-I just looked this up and it's either a 1.7mm or 2 mm box chain-I'm especially psyched about this one!
a 10K ring (selling)
a woman's 14K ring with 9 pink stones (type of stone??) (selling)
a man's 14K signet ring (selling)

I'm so excited!:cool1: :woohoo: Any guesses what my profit might be?

Did you send your find in yet? How did you make out??:confused3

Did you send your find in yet? How did you make out??:confused3

I sent it in last night, and FedEx delievered it this afternoon around 2:30pm. I'm thinking that I probably won't get a call until tomorrow am which may work to my benefit as gold has gone up today (and USGB payouts went up today-maybe they'll go up more by tomorrow:confused3 ).

So which company should I use to sell my gold? Which is the easiest method? Thanks!

I have quite a bit, and one of our local (reputable) jewelers sent us a postcard wrapped in a bag looking for gold...

Most on this thread have had better luck mailing it in, but you can weigh it (I did on the scale at the post office) and USGB will give you an estimated payout based on your ounces and your jeweler should also and then go with the highest:banana:

Hi everyone,
I have been trying to keep up with this thread as I am interested in this. I see that a lot of people have used USGB....can I get a PM (or post here if thats okay) as to which company this is. I *think* I know, but want to be sure. I also have a bunch of questions and apologize that I know they have probably been answered many times over, but I get lost in the thread.:guilty:

You contact them and they send an envelope, is it a Fed Ex type envelope and someone has to come and pick up? We have Fed Ex pickup each day at my work but did not know if it was something different.

Do you take pictures of your items before shipping? Or at least count how many pieces you are shipping and do they confirm they received the same amount? Is there a minimum that can be sent or a fee if it is not valued at a certain amount? Is there a fee if you do sell?

They call you within a few days to give a value of your package? What if you do not accept it? Also, since I would imagine the value changes daily, is it the day the receive it or the day you call to request a package?

Thank you very much, and again, sorry for the repeat of questions.:upsidedow

Thanks

I am super new here, but I have been reading the boards for about two months now. After reading about the gold I had to give it a try. I sent it to USGB by way of Fed EX on Wed, he picked up my package at 1:30 and by thurs at 12:30 they called to tell me I was getting $501!!
I recieved my check on Monday and cashed it today. The money is stashed with the rest of my Disney funds for my Aug. 10-16 trip.

I can't say thank you enough to the Dis Boards.:worship: :worship: :worship:

Has anyone sent in 14KT White Gold??

Yes. I had sent in 14kt and 18kt white (and some yellow also). It doesn't matter, its treated the same. They base your payout on what is 10kt, 14kt and 24kt-not on whether it is yellow or white gold.

Us goldbuyers at www.usgoldbuyers.com
You contact them and they send an envelope, is it a Fed Ex type envelope and someone has to come and pick up? We have Fed Ex pickup each day at my work but did not know if it was something different.

You call USGB they send you an email with mailing instructions. Basically you call FEd Ex at the number in the email, tell them you need a pick up and theat you need a PADDED envelope and airbill, you schedule a time they come get it, you fill out the airbill just as they say in the email that USGB sends you and you get a call the next day with your offer.
Do you take pictures of your items before shipping? Or at least count how many pieces you are shipping and do they confirm they received the same amount? Is there a minimum that can be sent or a fee if it is not valued at a certain amount? Is there a fee if you do sell?

I didn't take pics, but some do, you do have to list what you are sending in on a form that they sen you in the email.

You are only charged for shipping if it is under 1 ounce.

If you have less than 5 ounces of gold they do take a 10% discount off your settlement. USGB does this, Goldfellow does not, but GF's payout rates are alot less. I had less than 5 ounces and I still was offered more by USGB than Gold fellow.
They call you within a few days to give a value of your package? What if you do not accept it? Also, since I would imagine the value changes daily, is it the day the receive it or the day you call to request a package?

They call you the next day, literally almost 24 hours from the time you sent it to them. So if you send it Wed. at 2:00 you will probably get a call Thurs by 3:00. The day that they offer you your settlement is the value they use.Thank you very much, and again, sorry for the repeat of questions.:upsidedow

Thanks

Just so you know, Goldfellow does offer 10% increase in your settlement if you mention that you are a DIS board's member and put it on your packing slip. I found the payout with USGB to be higher even with adding in the added amount with GF and the discount from USGB for not having 5 ounces. USGB is almost double GF in payout amount.

What do they do if you send stuff that is not gold? Do they send it back or just keep it? I have a lot of old jewelry from when I was younger but I have no idea if it is gold or not. I would just like to send it all and if it is, great, if not oh well.

Anything that is not gold they will send back to you (at least at USGB) unless you tell them otherwise. I had a pair of earrings I was not sure about. They told me they were not gold. I told them not to bother sending them back and to chuck them and the guy told me that they will donate them to the Salvation Army.

Finally got them to call me back. I was a little dissapointed in the payout. I thought it would be more. $401. The guy said I had 2 ounces. Does that sound right? :confused3 Anyway it is found money so to speak. Thanks to the OP for helping all of us dissers find extra money.

Congrats! I just sent my package today and I'm expecting around $400-450 so keeping my fingers crossed. Seems like the price has went up some compared to last week. I hope it hits close to $19 when they process mine. :thumbsup2

Christy..I am dying to find out how you did on your garage sale finds. I never realized that people sold jewelery at garage sales. I really hop you struck gold :rotfl2: !!!

I just sent it out yesterday and they processed it this morning! That was fast! Anyway I'm getting $451! :woohoo:

I sent my old gold to Gold Fellow... I really didnt have much. One 18" rope chain, one earring, six charms and two rings. One ring was just a plain gold band and was only 10k, all the other stuff was 14k. I don't know what this all weighed by ounces, but the 10k was 1.1 pennyweight and the 14k was 7.2 pennyweight. My settlement came to $102.91 :thumbsup2
I'm thrilled! I knew I didnt have alot and was hoping to get $50, so I'm very pleased with what I got. This was stuff that I haven't worn in 10 -15 years! It was all just sitting there in my jewelry box and none of it was sentimental for me to pass down to my DDs. So I figure this is $100 that I didn't have a few days ago :)
