WOW - I just sold my old gold........

And I found the information that I was looking for here:

http://www.unc.edu/~rowlett/units/dictO.html

regarding Troy ounce and avoirdupois ounce

The troy ounce equals 192/175 = 1.09714 avoirdupois ounces which is an International weight standard, and is used in the U.S.
There is quite a bit of interesting information to be found from the previous link, and the link in my other post, regarding this subject.
At somepoint, I might actually learn enough to work for an expert in precious metals :)

Okay, to all who were curious. My check was $1044.40...I think I should play those #'s! I did expect a little more but I suppose that's a nice deposit on a Disney cruise!

Wonderful! Who did you end up going with? Were most of your items 14K?

Well I just mailed my stuff in USPS registered mail today and the receipt showed the contents were 11 oz. Hope this will put a dent in the Disney fund!! :goodvibes

We just recieve out check today from USGB and is was a lot more that I thought it would be. I was happy to get over 1300.00 for our disney trip.

This is a great idea. I went to the website mentioned above, and they emailed their informational sheet to me, including the airbill information and the instructions say, "[USGB] will reimburse all of your shipping expenses." It does not state a minimum. But above a 1 oz. minimum is mentioned. Will they deduct shipping costs from what they pay me? I don't have too much. There is also no mention of stones in the shipping description. One item I have has a diamond (not high quality as diamonds go though). I wouldn't know how to extract it from the setting.

bumping this up, because i'd like to know the answer also. another question, i have a pair of hoop earrings and i can't tell if they are gold or not. should i just send them?

Like I have stated previously, via email communication between myself and USGB and a one Mr. Meir, he stated that if the weight is over 1 troy ounce, the shipping is free.
I know that Gold Fellow, will accept precious metal that has one or more stones in it, however if you want to find out about receiving a possible payment regarding the stones, you need to call them. Otherwise, it could be the hope diamond, however they would still only consider the value of the precious metal, not the stones.

Forgot to add, that if you are not sure about whether or not, your earrings are real gold, as opposed to gold filled, which these business's do not accept, just take it to a jeweler and ask, or to a pawn shop, believe you me they all know gold, so I have heard.

Yes, it was all 14K. I used US Gold Buyers. It was wery quick. I had my check in just a couple of days.

Very cool. I have a batch that I want to weigh before I send it out just to have a better idea of its worth. I have a batch of silver that I'm going to send to them too.

If it is under an ounce they will deduct the shipping cost. Free shipping is for only over 1 ounce. AS for the stone, you need to take it out, I hear USGB takes stones, but they have to be separate from the gold and you ahve to contact them directly to set up sending them in. I had stones in mine and I called and he said take them out. They are done separately.

Have I screwed up? I sent my gold in today but forgot that I will be gone most of the day tomorrow. I am a SAHM so I am home every day.I always give my home number out of habit. We have a girls scout outing and I only gave USGB my home phone number. Will they call me back or email me with a price. Or perhaps leave a number that I can call. This is not going very smooth for me.

They will leave you a message and give you a number to call them back at. I missed my call and this is how it worked for me. They did not leave my settlement offer on the recording. I called back and it was very easy.

I just got my call! My offer was $860!!! :cool1: I am truly shocked and thrilled. Anyone who has old gold sitting around, sell it!

I have quite a bit, and one of our local (reputable) jewelers sent us a postcard wrapped in a bag looking for gold...

MKL, I think we have some of the same earrings--not to mention the herringbone necklace! *LOL*

I'm still trying to locate some of my 14K gold jewelry that apparently was packed away when the master suite flooded in 2007. There are several pairs of earrings that I never wear--too heavy! I have almost four ounces, so I'm hoping to make it to five soon! :)
