WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Tinkerdreams,

I have not taken what I do have, to be weighed, although I may at some point, when I have more precious metal to consider selling, instead like on my previous post, to figure in terms of 1 troy ounce, which is @ equal to 6 quarters, this is the figure that you want to have in mind as a minimum to send, partly to not have to pay shipping to USGB, don't know about GF charging a postal rate if your shipment is under 1 troy ounce, and partly for the sake of having enough to send to make it worth their while as well as yours.

Ok, not to be dense (another LONG day here) ....

but what is 'one troy ounce' equal to exactly?

If gold is at 880+ ... is that per pound? It's not 880 per one troy ounce, is it?

Holy cow! I mailed at 4pm yesterday...just got called with my payout info $632.18!!! For a bunch of stuff from ex boyfriends!

How do you know if you have enough worth trying to sell? I have a few items, but not sure if it's worth it to send it in. Like a small chain necklace, a dumbbell charm and a possible nugget from an earring about the size of a nickle. Is this enough to bother? I could really use the extra cash for Disney myself!

Did you have fed ex mail you the supplies? I just called USGB and they said that they don't mail you anything that you call fed ex for pick up. The guy I talked to wasn't the nicest person in the world. Was just wondering. We have a drop box in town but no live person drop off. I would have to drive 35minutes to do that. Thanks!

When you tell USBG you want to send them stuff, they send you an email that has an 800 number you call tell them when you want them to pick up and that you need a blank airbill and padded envelope. They come to you , you don't have to go to a drop box. The directions are on the email USGB sends you.

It is 880 per troy ounce, but I don't know what a troy ounce is, but if you are trying to estimate your payout, your payout is by penny weight.

Here's how it goes.

For each ounce there is an ESTIMATED 18 pennyweight per ounce.

I had 4 ounces. 4 ounces X 18 pennyweight= 72
Payout is APPROXIMATELY $24 per pennyweight(at USGB) so
$24X72(pennyweight)= $1728
USGB takes a 10% discount off your gold if it is below 5 ounces, so minus $170 = $1558.

My payout was $1630 becasue I actually had 4.7 ounces, but easier to do the math with 4 even ounces. Hope that helps.

If you aren't going to wear it and it is going to just sit in the jewelry box collecting dust I say send it in. Even if you have only 1 ounce you probably will get $100. Which is money you didn't have before. With USGB you don't have to do anything, just call fedex and set up a pick up time, pretty simple.

I'm sooo excited. I stopped at a garage sale this afternoon (I know, on a Thursday-so cool cuz I beat out some of the "people in the business" garage salers, as my grandmother would call them:rotfl2: ), and asked if she had any jewelry. She said she'd have some but would be putting it out tomorrow. I was much bolder than I typically am and asked if I could see it before tomorrow since I'd be working and wouldn't have a chance to stop by...so she pulls out three boxes of all types of things. A bunch of costume jewelry, a lot of sterling (that she thought was gold), gold plated stuff....and...a whole bunch of 14K items!:cool1:

For $100. I bought:
a double strand of cultured pearls (keeping)
a sterling silver cubic zirconia tennis bracelet (keeping)
a 17 inch 14K necklace with 11 cultured pearls (may keep:confused3 )
a single 14K hoop earring (selling)
a 14K heart with diamond chip pendant (selling)
a 14K "B" diamond chip pendant (selling)
a 14K B pendant with a small diamond (selling)
a 14K flat heart pendant with 1 pearl, not sure if the necklace is 14K or not (the clasp has writing on it, but it's worn down so I can't read it)-selling
an 18" 14K chain with filigree pendant (selling)
a 25" 14K chain (selling)
a 20"14K chain-very heavy, boxy looking chain (selling) ** edited to say-I just looked this up and it's either a 1.7mm or 2 mm box chain-I'm especially psyched about this one!
a 10K ring (selling)
a woman's 14K ring with 9 pink stones (type of stone??) (selling)
a man's 14K signet ring (selling)

I'm so excited!:cool1: :woohoo: Any guesses what my profit might be?

DID YOU BUY IT JUST TO Sell it? You'll have to weigh it and then theres a post above that outlines what you can estimate, GOOD LUCK!

Thanks! I bought it partially to keep (once I saw the pearls). I have some other gold items and some sterling that I was holding on to until I had more to send to US Gold Buyers. I want to weigh everything before I send this stuff out.

I think the one ring with the pink stones is pink topaz. Does anyone know whether I should consider removing those stones since US Gold Buyer won't return the stones?

Someone posted a couple posts back that they do have a stone appraiser available, but you would probably need to call on that, b/c when I called they said take out the stones before you send.

Just wanted to post that I had a little mics stuff, 2 borken rings from my 20's,a few charms and 3-4 individual earrings-it only weighed @1oz on my kitchen scale-didn't even think it would be worth to send....

Dropped it in the FedEx box Friday, got my offer Mon $140, got my check Thurs! I am pysched. It was all junk that could never be worn again (unless dog tags with my name come back in style for a 40 year old LOL!!!)

By the way , I used USGB and put the DISboards on the packing slip.

Just dropped mine off at FedEx this morning. I sent gold and silver. Can;t wait to see what they say!

All that I know is according to Mr. Meir from USGB, is that one troy ounce is @ equall to 6 quarters, and that if the weight is over that, shipping is free.
So that is what I go with, my anti-math mind can understand that! ;)

Just wanted to add, that one troy ounce is equall to 31.1034768 grams and
one ounce = 28.3495231 grams.

I sent mine out yesterday and it was delivered at 9:20 this morning. I am anxiously waiting for a call!!!!!! Hope it puts a dent in our Disney savings!!!

Nice selling, everyone!

And nice buying, too!

I lost my multi-quote, so whoever was asking what a troy ounc is, it is equal to 1.09714 US ounces. So just over one ounce on a postal scale!

That is not the information that I have, what is your source? for my source is USGB, and google.
