WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Thanks for the info on goldfellow and silver.Ive got some old silverware here thats silver from my grandmother that is just SITTING and has been forever and I plan on sending it in!

I've always wondered what to do with my broken pieces and the ones I'm not so interested in. :goodvibes This reminds me of funny story....I was engaged at this time when fiance' at this time was acting "funny", he wasn't sure what he wanted to do.....long story short, I had a house fire he didn't even know about it, after it had been on the news and in the paper. I had to call him! But the fireman retrieved my engagement ring that I asked him to. As far as ex is concerned it got lost in the fire. That was the part that upset him the most.

Anyone ever mail the fed ex pkg out on a Friday? :confused3 I know that US Goldbuyers isn't open on Saturdays (at least I don't think so). I tracked my pkg and it left here at 4:30 pm on Friday. Then it went to NY on Saturday (where I thought it would sit until Goldbuyers opened on Monday) -- but last time I tracked it, it was in Indianapolis. Did anyone else run into this over a weekend? I guess they'll send it back to NY tomorrow, but I dunno......I'm getting a little nervous now -- wondering if my 2.6 oz pkg is going to make it back to Goldbuyers -- Sure wish it was Monday!!!!!!!!!

I too mailed mine on Friday. I just checked and all that is showing is that the package was picked up at the drop off. I did not use overnight shipping, so it may still be in transit.

I am going to bring my stuff in to a local jeweler who is buying gold right now...the only thing is I am embarrassed as I think most of it is just junk. Does anyone know what gold is going for now?

Last time I checked, selling at just around $913 per oz (for pure gold of course). If you want to check what is a good offer, check u.s. goldbuyers, inc.'s website -- they post their prices online everyday (based upon that day's gold close price). Hope this helps. :) And, you never know -- what you think is junk, might be worth something!!

I mailed my Fed Ex saver Friday afternoon. I just checked and it is due to be delivered to GoldFellows by 430 on Tuesday.

How EXACTLY are you guys getting your "idea price" of worth??
Weighing on postal scale and then get price on line??,
but how do you know pennyweight conversion etc? pureness?
I would really like to get an idea ahead of time.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!

I weighed my gold by a postal scale. But they test the purity of the gold and pay accordingly. I really don't think there is a sure way to accurately estimate what your return will be.

This can be really confusing, but I'll see if I can help! :) Determining "estimated worth":
Approximate weight: I weighed mine on a postal scale, for a rough idea of what I had. Take into account that all might not be real gold, or reduce a little of the weight for small stones that may be removed. I had 2.6 oz.
Purity:
On each piece, you are paid according to "pureness" (how close to 100% gold it is) -- 10 kt has a certain pureness, as does 14K, 18K, 22K, etc. But even 14K may not always have the same purity content -- a piece may actually be closer to 13K in purity (although this is not an official measurement, so I think they bump it up to 14K.).
Conversion:
This is what I've found earlier on this thread: To convert oz to penny weights (dwt) -- each ounce is 20 dwt - so 2 oz would be 40 dwt. and .8 oz would be 16 dwt, 1.5 oz would be 30 dwt and so on.....
If you can figure all this out -- you can estimate a range of what your payout will be. For example: My pkg was 2.6 oz (52 dwt). Most of it was 14K, although there was 1 or 2 10K rings and one 22K ring. Since I'm dealing with US Goldbuyers, Inc, their website posts exactly what they are paying per pennyweight for each piece of 10K, 14K, 18K and so on., (this changes everyday, depending upon that day's closing gold price.) I estimated a range from the lowest payout (the entire 2.6 oz. bag being only 10K), then I did the highest payout (the entire 2.6 oz. bag being 14K). Then, I subtracted 10% from both figures, since I know US goldbuyers subtracts 10% from the final payout, if the total gold is less than 5 oz.
So, here are is my range estimate:
52 dwt x $17.61 (10k price) - 10% = $824.72
52 dwt x $31.69 (14k price) - 10% = $1,483.88.
So, now I know my payout should fall between those 2 figures. Yes -- there's a huge difference, but at least I have an idea where my offer should fall. I'm hoping for $825, and if I get closer to $1400, I will be ecstatic!:woohoo: I just didn't want to get ripped off, by accepting an offer of say, $300 for my gold, so I wanted a vague idea of what it would be worth.
This is just how I figured it out -- someone else might actually have a better, less confusing way to do it.
Hope this helps! ;)

Tink...yep, the same thing happened to me. Sent mine out on a Friday and it hippety hopped around over the weekend (incl. Indianapolis), after being in New Jersey. Freaked me out too. But it arrived safe and sound on Monday! I got the call from USGB the next day (Tues) at about 11:30am. And I just received my check in the mail yesterday (Sat.). All is well...:goodvibes

Thanks so much! I feel much better now. Thanks for replying!:thumbsup2

Ugh - still waiting to hear from USGB. I sent my package on Tuesday with delivery on Wednesday (got confirmation from Fedex) but nothing yet. No phone call, email, etc. in terms of what they payout will be. A little frustrating because even on their website they still tout that 24-48 hour turnaround. Anyone have it take this long when going through USGB? If you have your items for paypal (in terms of payment) how do they notify you first - phone, email?

TIA

I am new to all of this and this is a lot of information to go through. Could someone give me the quick in's and out's on how to do this? I have several rings and necklaces I don't need anymore.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE THAT ALL OUT!:grouphug:

I am sure gold will go up again in the future. If you have something to sell, I would just hold onto it until it does; otherwise, sell it now if you really need the $$'s for something. Just my 2 cents at this time.

Anjelica-

USGB got my package on Monday morning and they called me on Tues. During that time frame, gold was taking a dive in value...perhaps they had fewer packages coming in. I got a phone call only, no further emails after the initial one with the shipping info. If you don't hear today, you may want to try contacting them. That does seem like a long time to wait. Good luck!
