WOW - I just sold my old gold........

Sent my package off to Goldfellow yesterday, Unfortunately it looks like gold took quite a dive yesterday also, Oh well, anything will be a bonus for old stuff that was just sitting in my jewelry box collecting dust.:thumbsup2

What in the world did you sell to get that much? Awesome! :cool1:

I had 11 charms,10 unmatched earings,7 necklaces,10 bracelets,4 rings,an old ankle bracelet and my high school ring. All was 14k except the high school ring and 1 18k necklace.I got alittle worried when they called and asked if they could melt it into a bar yesterday but I guess it was because I had alot.

Well, hold on to your hats...especially if you're waiting for a quote/payout, etc. (like I am). Gold prices are plummeting again today...as of now, under $890. By the time they call me later today, tomorrow, next day...who knows how low it might go. Glad to hear the dollar is up, but geez, couldn't it have waited till next week?? :sad2:

I know I agree. I have been watching this thread from the start and did not act first. Now I will surely wait. Good luck to the others.:thumbsup2

Does anyone know what you do with the stones when selling? Do you take out the precious and semi precious stones if you sell to one of the mail in companies?

Just got the call. I'm a disappointed but took the offer as it's better than nothing.

At first he said my total was only $351.92!

I told him I expected quite a bit more so maybe I should hold on to the gold. I said one chain was 18k gold. He said I had 47% purity and 'it is what it is".

I said I think I'll hold on to it and then he put me on hold and came back and said they separated the 18k total from the 14k/10k total and the 18k was $150 and that with the rest totals $501.92. I was expecting quite a bit more but can't be bothered having them send it back.

Just as a reminder, I sent them:

1 school ring 10k, 1 14k gold ring wedding band, set of 14k loop earrings, two 14k rope bracelets, five 14k necklaces of various length (one was herringbone), 1 small 14k charm holder, and one long 18k rope chain.

Glad it's over with but wish I had gotten more. :(

So, when should I expect to see the check? I forgot to ask him. Tomorrow?

Well, just got the call from USGB--that was fast! I'm getting $811 and some change. Was hoping for a bit more, but I'm not surprised due to the drop in gold prices. Anyway, it's some great $$ for stuff that's been lying around for years. I've got a few more pieces I may consider selling...but I'm gonna wait and see if gold goes back up cuz I'm in no rush now.

Sorry I don't have the details on what I sent...At one point I had 3.2 oz. but I held out a couple of bigger pieces (and never re-weighed) and Gene (at USGB) told me a couple of things weren't gold (probably the unmarked stuff). I also didn't press him for details. I'm happy and would recommend USGB...I think the payout would have been much less elsewhere.

Good luck to everyone still waiting and hoping...and thanks again to the OP and all who have contributed to this thread with helpful info!! :thumbsup2

Just got my check from goldfellow yesterday...I accepted their offer late last Wednesday! Now I have some extra spending $ for my upcoming trip!

I also just got the call from USGB and was pretty disappointed with the total. I sent in what I thought was about 1.75 oz according to my postal scale. The heaviest peices were 18K (two wedding rings +plat head) and a thick 18" chain. Also a couple of hoop earrings and a couple of rings from HS.

My quote was only $471 for what they said weighed only one ounce. I thought that was too low, and asked them to take out my old wedding rings (by far the heaviest peice). They said the set was worth $150. My new total was $319. I took it and asked them to send my wedding rings back. I figured I'd hang onto them at 18K and platinum they should be worth much more than $150, or else I'd just keep them for sentimental value.

There just wasn't much detail they offered. It was what it was, and there was no explaining it. I guess I'm one of the only ones here who asked to have them send some stuff back. I definitely had higher expectations than what was offered. But they were very nice, I'll say that...

Dont forget they go by the purity.. that is why is it always less.

Yeah, that was his reasoning. He said my 14k/10k purity was 47%. I do find it odd though that he conveniently forgot my 18k gold necklace worth $150 until I said maybe he should send it all back. :scratchin

Makes you wonder with how busy they are how many other mistakes theyre making, or conveniently not catching. That was USGB right?

Yes, it was USGB.

I think they negotiate. I think they low ball a bit and see how you react. I reacted very shocked at the low total. Then he said, what were you expecting? I told him. Then he said what scale did you use? Then I said maybe I should keep it and that is when he put me on hold and came back with the 'mistake' and $150 more.

I was thinking the same thing.....I think it would be MUCH more professional for them to send an invoice with a breakdown of what it is for....especially considering they just had a major news show do a segment on them......I was hoping for more also.

I wouldnt expect that from a place like that. They should give you what its worth right off the bat. You can go to a local gold buyer or pawn shop and haggle. I thought places like USGB were more honest. Thats too bad.

Well, I have my stuff ready to go to GoldFellow, but I'm contemplating holding onto it for another little while since the prices have dropped. How likely is it for prices to go back up?
