Wow did you see Valerie Bertinelli on the commercial for Jenny Craig?

I believe she's a size 14. She's short. But even with the weight, she is still adorable. I always liked her. Wanted to be Barbara and marry Eddie Van Halen.:rotfl:

If she helps others by sharing her weight loss, I'm all for it.

I do sometimes wonder, though, if these celebs put on the weight purposefully so that they can take it off and make money for themselves and Jenny Craig. Not saying that IS the case. She could very well have packed on the pounds and then worked out the deal with Jenny Craig. I just wonder about it.

I have seen her on the commercial, on the People cover, and on an ET interview. In all those appearances, her clothes make her look really big. I wonder if she isn't all THAT big, and is dressing to make herself to look bigger so she will look that much smaller when she loses the weight she wants to. Makes Jenny Craig look a whole lot better.

That's a very common trick in these ads for diet programs. They have the person wear big clothing and use bad posture so that they look heavier.

I recently watched a very enlightening program on Showtime about the "obesity epidemic" and how we are being manipulated by the diet and food industry. Yes, there are a lot of us that could stand to lose some weight, and I'm one of them. However, have you noticed the fixation? Can you read a newspaper, a magazine or watch the Today show or GMA without hearing a story about the obesity crisis? Can you watch an evening of prime time TV without seeing a commercial for WW, Jenny or some other diet plan? Good grief, I had Sportscenter on the other day and got an earful of Nutrasystem for MEN! None of these programs work, and they aren't designed to. If they worked, there would be no more fat people and they'd be out of business!! Do you think these companies don't have lobbyists in DC? Think again. Who do you think is responsible for changing the body fat index so that Brad Pitt is considered overweight and George Clooney is considered obese?? The diet industry and the big food companies like Nabisco who make gazillions of dollars on all those 100 calorie packs, Lean Cuisines and low fat packaged food-that's who.

I'm not denying that we all need to exercise more and eat better-but I do think it's a good idea to step back and look at who benefits from us all being obessesed with losing weight.

Well if she's buying her clothes at Walmart,K Mart or JC Penney then she's definitely not a size 14.Their clothes run so small my size 6 friend has to go up to a size 10 or 12 at those stores.
Debbie
I buy all of my jeans at Walmart - size 12. Maybe I'm smaller in the "good" stuff - haven't bought any lately.:)

She is still so adorable. The cutest face:cutie:

She really has aged well. Just look at Eddie Van Halen

Unfortunately age hasn't fared well with him.

She really has aged well. I can't believe she's almost 47. I wonder if she's had any surgical procedures? She sure looks cute.

One thing I would like to get off my chest is that I'm about an average size, but depending on where I buy my clothes, I can fit into an 8, 10, 12 or even 14. Why isn't there some consistency with sizes! DH can go to the store, buy a pair of pants without trying them on and they fit just fine b/c he bought the size he always buys. I buy a 12 and it's huge on me or worse, I buy a 12 and can't squeeze myself into it. I just hate that. Thanks for letting me rant.

I didn't realize JC Penny, Walmart and Kmart's clothes run small. That explains a lot!

My Mom said that yesterday too when we were talking about clothes. I was ranting about a some Dockers I got at Penney's. I bought 3 pair, brown, tan and blue. I tried on the tan ones and the brown ones and they fit great-so I picked up the blue ones-from the same rack-on the way to check out. The blue ones are the same size as the other two pair and they're too tight!!!! GRRRR.
I've got a few nicer shirts in my closet that I got at the outlets-Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren. Those are all medium and they fit me just fine. At Penney's the same style of shirt-oxford cut-I fit a large!!

I hate women's clothes sizes. Guys have it easy.

I used to wear her size when she was wearing 8, and now I wear her size 14 and would love to lose some weight. I am 5'5" and weigh between 170 and 178 depending on the time of day and amount of food I eatduring the day. I try and weigh myself in the morning and go with that weight. Everyone tells me they can't believe I weigh that much but I had a bone density test and the Dr said my bones were very dense. He said bones not brain.
Valerie has always had a full face so even when she was very tiny she had a pudgy young look.
What really irks me about these stars going on any diet plan is they get it for free. I could and would be willing to lose some weight and push their program if it was free.
I read that Kirstie Alley got her program for free and 25 of her family and friends also did.
I wonder if Valerie would list me as a friend?

I somehow doubt that Valerie Bertinelli would be shopping at KMart, Wal-Mart, or JC Penney. ;)

I think she looks adorable. My son has had a crush on her since she was on Touched by an Angel.

I saw her on ET and was surprised when she said the JC folks contacted her. Talk about societal pressure to be thin. :sad2: I bet if she wore something other than the tent-like tops she's in on all the promos she would look nice.

well I hate to tell you this I am 5"4 and a size 14 ( do not tell anyone) I think valerie looks great! Jenny Craig is BIG bucks. so Valerie you go girl! I will just eat stingbeans and water popcorn::

I think she looks great. Sure, she's gained weight but she looks round and curvy, I wouldn't call her fat.

She's adorable! I can't believe how much better she's aged than her ex husband- oh wait, yes I can.

Val looks great. I think she has a great shape! You go Val. Why do all celebs want to loose LBS if they are a size 14? I think they look great esply val and Tyra :wizard:

Wow, she looks good! I would not call her fat. But if she wants to lose some weight, I support her.

Think again. Who do you think is responsible for changing the body fat index so that Brad Pitt is considered overweight and George Clooney is considered obese??
I don't get that either. I recently looked up those "ideal weight" charts because I know that I need to lose some weight for better health reasons. I cannot believe what those charts show as my ideal weight! I had lost a bunch of weight a few years ago and was pretty thin, a few pounds more would have been too thin especially considering I have a small frame. Yet I was still considered about 17lbs overweight! Even my doctor told me to ignore those charts. And the BMI...I am considered obese!

Why is everyone going on and on about how "fat" she is! I think she looks beautiful! You know, you're either too fat or too skinny. Noone can win!
