one of the perks of DVC is 180 day adrs?

I will admit that I am not happy about the change and would love to get it back to 180 days.

With all the talk of the adr policy change to 90 days, I was thinking that a nice benefit would be to let DVC members be able to book 180 days in advance. It would be a way to reward those who frequently vacations at Disney. However, a DVC reservation number would be required.

And I don't think this would be unfair since it's a perk of owning a part of Disney.:)

However, hopefully it wouldn't create more system problems.;)

What do you think?

I'm with you! I think that is a super-fantastic idea! I'm anxiously awaiting 5/15....since 2/15...........

I just heard about the change today when I booked a vacation. When did they change it? MS said it changed from 120 days to 90 days ADR. I thought it was always 180 days.

I hated the 180 day window - park hours were never out in time and it really made impromptu or short-notice trips hard to plan if you like to eat at the nicer restaurants.

I don't think such a perk would be unfair, but I don't know why Disney would have any incentive to offer it. They'd be smarter to offer a slight break on dining plans to get DVC kitchen users to eat out more often. But even that I don't think they'll do.

I would love to see a discount on the DDP, but that would cost money, so I don't think that's going to happen in the near future. Although, I would have a whole new appreciation for DVC is that ever came into play.::yes::

I just think that giving a benefit like the 180 day adr would give DVC members a great perk without significantly costing Disney financially. It may even serve as an incentive when buying into the membership. Although people have different preference, giving a perk like this is an option and may be a great incentive for some, while useless for others (just like all the other perks...some use it and some don't).:thumbsup2

I'd simply like to see a booking window at 90 days for anyone with a reservation number at a Disney hotel or DVC. Using your AP, you can call at 75 days. Everyone else can call at 60 days and use their phone number. Or let AP members book at 90 as well, but make sure DVC ties AP into the DVC account so you can't use both to make ADRs (and similarly, have CRO try to tie them to CRO reservations - harder without the discount - you'd have some non-compliance).

This would create a relationship between hotel reservations and dining that would cut down on double booking. You'd still be able to double book using your AP, but you'd have to wait a few days to do so, and you'd be able to double book using phone numbers, but not until onsite guests and AP holders had a chance for reservations.

I'm happy with 180 or 90 - the timeline isn't that big a deal - what is a big deal is that their isn't an onsite advantage for dining and that people can easily doublebook using different phone numbers.

I generally agree, except I'd want to park schedule at least a little before ADRs open...

I would like to see the park calendars released one month prior to the 90 mark.

DEFINATELY, or at a minimum one month prior to DVC ADRs opening up! :)

Interesting thought, but I also doubt they'll offer it. I've never used a dining plan and I doubt I would even if discounted; the offerings just don't fit the way DW & I eat. We also don't use kitchens; plan to be "studio dwellers" at DVC and only had 'regular' hotel rooms prior to buying in!

As for onsite, what about the 90+10 rule- that still exists, right? Isn't the +10 still an advantage over offsite guests? I never thought about double booking, hmmmmm... Not sure what to say there!

this is OFF Topic but Wilderness Dad my DD3 came over while I was reading the thread and starts yelling "MOOSE A MOOSE LOOOOOOOOOOK MOOSE A MOOSE" I think you made her day.

as far as the booking window I was bummed they switched it because I am a huge planner and now I have nothing to plan til late June :sad2:

oh well I guess I can preplan then change it when the hours are out!

because I am a huge planner and now I have nothing to plan til ...

Same here; we are going right after Thanksgiving and I'm going batty trying to decide when to buy MVMCP tickets for! I've read they go on sale May 1st so I'm leaning toward Tuesday Dec. 1st, but not knowing what EMH are makes it hard for me to pull the trigger. OTOH, if I wait until park & EMH are published, what if MVMCP is sold out!!!! :scared1: That would be worse!

I honestly don't want to have try to decide where I want to dine 6 months before a trip. I like the 90+10 system.

But really, as long as Disney treats DVC as well as all other onsite guests, I don't care. I definately would never want to see DVCers at a disadvantage...like cash guests at 180 and DVC at 90. Nor do I think it would be smart for Disney to give DVC an advantage over guests at their own cash resorts, that would be really stupid marketing. DVC may mean long term cash up front for Disney, but they also need the cash reservations to balance their income.

I'm an uber-planner too and I loved having *something* to plan at 180 days. Having something to plan always seems to make the time go a little bit faster.

Definitely agree!:thumbsup2

I would be satisfied with even a week before the first of each month. That way, for those who has a vacation in the beginning of the month, they have a little time to go over their plans before calling for ADRS.

I may be a bit dense here, but what is the benefit of double booking? Is double booking having TWO reservations for the same day/time? If so, although I can see how it would add some flexibility, I think someone would have to be totally obsessed to do that. Oh wait, we are all spending our free time on a Disney message board, so I guess that is all of us. :rotfl:

I was GLAD that they changed it to 90 days. At 180 days out, although I am thinking about my trip (hence my constant visits to this site), I am not ready to start making dinner plans, as the dining plans ultimately decide how I am going to spend each day. At 90 days, with the trip on the horizon, I can think that through with more clarity. Plus, although I am obsessing 180 days out, my family definitely isn't, so it is hard to get them to take me seriously when I say, "So, where do you want to eat on the third night of our trip?"

To me, anything is good as long as it is fair. If everyone has to call at 90 days, what's the big deal. It is really only a big deal if I forget and then I find myself trying to make a reservation with 30 days to go. THAT is a pain. I just did that for my parents a few weeks back, and they were stuck with bad time slots, and they missed out on a few places where they wanted to eat.

Right now 90 + 10 means the furthest out you can make an ADR is July 16th arrival through July 26th, and the calendar website is showing times & EMH through July 30th, it will be interesting to see when they post August. I HOPE it will be soon enough (and they will keep posting things soon enough) to be ahead of ADRs, but I don't think they've committed to it... ERGH! Would 105 or so days really be that much harder than "3 months"? Or better, just make it 4 as others said earlier...

Frankly, I'd be happy with 30 day advance dining reservations! I HATE having to count up 90 or 180 days and decide that far ahead where I might want to plan to eat. When we bought DVC back in '97, it was so we wouldn't have to do all the detailed planning beyond making our reservation at the 11 month mark. The first few years we never made a dining reservation until we were on site. I LOVED it! Now I feel the NEED to make them early or risk not getting into some of our favs. On the other hand, I have found some of the sit downs in the parks quite easy to get last minute if i go either very early or very late.

Me, too. 30 days is plenty of time to advance plan meals. Park hours are much less likely to be changed at that point as well.

You ultra etreme planners can still plan as much and as far ahead as you like - you just won't be able to execute until the 30 day mark. Less time to second guess yourselves and change things around, too. That's a good thing, right? :rotfl:

The 2 credit restaurants are pretty easy to get last minute. Frankly, there are very few 1 credit restaurants that we will patronize anymore. Menus seem all the same and they are usually very crowded. So far, we haven't found that to be true for the signatures, though.
