Would you visit in August?

Well I'll be there in August not only with 2 very small kids (4 & 2) but I'll be 30 week pregnant. I'm hoping it's not that bad!

We get to rope drop, head back to our room for lunch (we have a villa) and then head back out in the evening for dinner and the night in the park. So we'll be out of the heat for the hottest part of the day. Also, I live in the DC area, so I know heat and humidity. I actually have a good number of relatives who have moved to Florida and all say that DC summers are worse than Florida summers. We're very active here year round, so it's not like we're used to being inside in the AC all the time.

I'm hoping it's not too crowded. With the new baby coming in the fall, my husband's work schedule, and wanting to take advantage of the great discount of deluxe villas, mid-august was the best time to go. And as others have said, I'd rather be at disney in the summer than not at Disney at all!

I'd go. When they're that little, celebrating their birthday at another time won't be nearly as fun. And if it's awful, you can say you've done it and won't do it again, without just writing off a whole month without even trying it.

It really depends on your tolerance for heat and humidity. I live 2 hours from Disney, and I would never go in August. We just returned from Disney this weekend, and the weather was horribly hot - close to 100 with high humidity. We actually left early because it was so hot. But our tolerance for the heat is very low, even though we live here.

Having said that, the heat in Florida is unlike heat anywhere else. I grew up in Southern California and regularly endured 110 degree summers. That was nothing compared to a 90 degree day in Florida with high humidity. The humidity in August is much worse than humidity in June. And, as someone else pointed out, August and September are high hurricane months as well. There is a real possibility that your vacation could be interrupted due to bad weather. At the very least, you should expect it to rain in the afternoons.

If all of this are things you can deal with, then by all means go and have a great time! But the bad weather is probably one of the reasons Disney offers the discounts in the summer time!

We go in Aug. every year. Two years ago it was hotter in the begining of Oct. Then it was in Aug. We go the end of Aug. and crowds are low.:goodvibes

We have gone in July and in August. July was hot but August was hot and much more humid with showers every afternoon. We found it easier to handle by going to the parks 1st thing in the morning, then returning to the hotel in the early afternoon for pool time and naps, then back to the parks for dinner and evening touring. We are going again this August and are planning on tackleing the parks in the exact same way...

We go every August. Sure, it's really hot, but the kids don't have memories of the heat, it's of the magic.

Our prescription is to go to the parks until we get enough, whatever time that is. Then we head back to the resort to rest. We hit the pool every day, but only after dinner, and after dark. It saves us the time and energy of back and forth to the parks twice, and we avoid the afternoon pool crowds and sun, which are anything but relaxing and rejuvenating in my opinion.

I know my post was a while back, but thank you all for your advice! With a busy summer and the factor of the baby and the heat, we decided to visit in October!! I am so excited! We are going 10/22-10/26 and staying at the Wilderness Lodge! We can't wait! It will be a birthday gift to the kids...just a few months later :) I think it will be well worth the wait for them.

Now...on to the planning and obsessing over all the detail that keeps me up and online at night :yay:

We've gone in August -- usually the last week. By then the crowds have cleared out considerably - so even though it's still REALLY HOT & HUMID at least you won't have long waits for attractions.
