Well I'll be there in August not only with 2 very small kids (4 & 2) but I'll be 30 week pregnant. I'm hoping it's not that bad!
We get to rope drop, head back to our room for lunch (we have a villa) and then head back out in the evening for dinner and the night in the park. So we'll be out of the heat for the hottest part of the day. Also, I live in the DC area, so I know heat and humidity. I actually have a good number of relatives who have moved to Florida and all say that DC summers are worse than Florida summers. We're very active here year round, so it's not like we're used to being inside in the AC all the time.
I'm hoping it's not too crowded. With the new baby coming in the fall, my husband's work schedule, and wanting to take advantage of the great discount of deluxe villas, mid-august was the best time to go. And as others have said, I'd rather be at disney in the summer than not at Disney at all!
I'd go. When they're that little, celebrating their birthday at another time won't be nearly as fun. And if it's awful, you can say you've done it and won't do it again, without just writing off a whole month without even trying it.

But the bad weather is probably one of the reasons Disney offers the discounts in the summer time!
I think it will be well worth the wait for them.
