Hello! I am a new member and this is my first post! I have read these boards before and they have been so helpful. I figured this was a great place for some help!

I am a mom of three a daughter (6 in Aug), son (4 in August) and baby son (1 in June).

We took our older two to DW in June of 2009 and had THE BEST TIME!!! It was perfect! We visited the first week of June, stayed for 5 nights at the AKL. We couldn't wait to plan our next trip....and then the following summer we had our third baby. So of course we didn't get back in 2010. We have been talking about the going back this year, but I am conflicted about when to go. We are now talkng about a possible trip in Aug 2011. My older two celebrate their birthdays during the first week and we thought that it may be a great idea to celebrate there.

My questions are this......has anyone gone at this time? Is it extrememly hot and totally unbearbale? (Our June 2009 trip was pretty hot too and we managed.) Mostly I am worried that it will be really crowded??

I know they are offering 30% off nights in Deluxe Resorts in August and we would love to stay at AKL again or another Deluxe Resort.

So....August for a big birthday celebration for my kids?? Or would you wait until Sept/Oct?

Thanks for your opinions!

If you went in June and had fun, you'll probably be fine in August. You can plan for crowds, my favorite time is Christmas, which is crazy busy.

My issue is the heat.... and I'm from Texas and grew up in Palm Springs, so I'm familiar with heat. That said, if you dealt with it in June, you'll be fine.

30% off is awesome, and those birthday buttons really bring on lots of magic for the kids!:cheer2:

You would never believe how incredibly hot it gets in August. We went to Universal in August last year. However, we went near the end of August. We only had to deal with the awful heat, not the crowds. And also we had the front-of-the-line passes so we didn't have to wait in any lines. The last time we were in Orlando in August was 20 years ago. So, from my perspective, it takes about 20 years to forget about the heat...lol.

Anyway, there are many posts on how to survive the heat and the crowds in the summer. If it were me, I wouldn't take kids that young to Orlando during the summer, especially the baby. Go when you can be comfortable. I understand you want to celebrate their bdays, but you can always celebrate their 1/2 bdays, or tell them it's their bday trip even though it's 2 months later.

First, welcome!

I would, and have, gone in August. If you enjoyed June, you should enjoy August, too.

With kids that young, I'd wait until late September to go if the discounts extend that long. Your older child will not be missing anything in school that she can't make up (IMHO) and it will be cooler. The parks will also be less crowded. I'd love to go in September but my kids are too old to miss school.

I guess it depends on which week in August you're looking at. I love the last week in August because the crowds are very low. I've never been at the beginning of August, but as I understand, it can be very crowded since schools are still out for the summer. I've been twice the last week in August and it is very hot (which doesn't bother me at all), but if the heat bothers you, it might do better to wait until October. September seems to be almost as hot as August, in my experience, but the crowds are still very low in September. The end of August and all of September are usually less expensive than October, so you might want to consider price as well when making your decision. There are lots of reasons to go in October rather than August, though. I already mentioned that it has usually cooled off a bit (but in my experience has always been plenty warm to enjoy the pools). The Halloween Party at the MK begins in mid-September, and is lots of fun, and Epcot begins its Food and Wine festival at the beginning of October. Both of these events are fantastic, and are a definite reason to consider October over August. They do, however, bring in larger crowds. Still manageable, but definitely higher attendance than the end of August and all of September. August and October are my favorite times to go to Disney, and I really don't think you can go wrong with either one.

We've been numerous times in August with small children. I'm one of those weird people that doesn't mind the heat. I'm from SC though. So I'll either be hot at home or hot atDisney! We go early in the am, rest in the afternoon at the resort, and go back at night after a refreshing shower. I say go for it!

I would much rather go in October, but I am a teacher and can stay a lot longer at Disney, if I go in August. So August it is!

I actually have found early August to be a bit less humid than late August and early September. Those are the worst two times for humidity, from my personal experience. June, July, and early August seem fine. This year, we are going late August, though, because of a good discount. Wish us luck!

The advice above is EXCELLENT! It is the best way to survive an August trip. We hit park opening every single day. Then, we travel back to our resort a little before lunch for a nap and a swim at the pool. Then, we go back to the park after dinner for a late night. We spend lots of time at the pool, lots of time at indoor attractions, and lots of time at table service restaurants, if we happen to be out and about during the afternoon.

I have found the most humid park to be the Animal Kingdom. So we go prepared with cold water bottles and clothes that dry quickly. We make sure to schedule a table service meal at the Animal Kingdom park during August and hit the air-conditioned shows. It's too hot for us without those little breaks.

We always go in August and have minimal problems! It's always really hot and humid but its not necessarily a bad thing because there are things you could do to cool down. We went for 2 weeks once, I believe the second and third week of August and saw a complete difference in the crowds for each week. We thought that the third week was a lot less crowded due to the fact that local kids started school.

I would definitely say do August, there is no reason not too!

My guess is it will be hot. I'm going for the 4th of July and when I went the same week a couple of years ago it was almost too much. Actually saw a couple of people overcome by the heat while waiting for the parade at MK.

We have been to Disneyworld during many months, including July and August. We are going back in August again this year. As many have said, it is HOT during this time, but there are many posts up now about it being very hot now in May .

Trust me, my whole family complains here at home when it's hot...they a very whiney bunch :thumbsup2 but at Disneyworld they don't complain. We go early and leave by 1 or 2pm, and sometimes go back at night, sometimes not. I look at it like this...we are paying a lot to go on an amazing vacation, I'm not going to waste my time complaining and sure as heck going to have a good time. Don't get me wrong, we take breaks in the air conditioning, enjoy air conditioned rides, etc, but the the heat won't ruin your trip if you plan well!

We felt July was more crowded then August. We went early August, like the second week, and we are going again this year on the 5th- I did not feel it was too crowded at all. There were definitley lots of travellers, but we did not find it to be crazy or experience any horrible wait times when using fast passes and getting to our favorite rides early in the morning. Again, we went early for rope drop, and left in the afternoons. Hope this helps! I hope you and your family have a great time, whenever you chose to go...:earsboy:

Not much difference in June, July and August for heat. I have been all three months and we will be there August 10-20 this year as well. Just get there early, leave around lunch and come back in the evening, and drink lots of fluids.

For their birthdays, wrap up some Disney garb. Maybe include a map of the parks. You can order the really nice ones. And tell them for their birthdays, there going to Disney in Sept./Oct. I'm sure they'll be excited.

We're from just outside New Orleans and usually go in late May or early June. It's hot, but nothing we can't deal with. We went the first week of August one year and said never again! August is soooo much hotter than June, but still very crowded. If you can wait until late September or October, it will be much more bearable. If August is your only option, go and enjoy Disney, but plan to do early mornings and nights while staying out of the parks during the hottest and most crowded parts of the day.

Aug is probably the hottest month of the year AND there are still tour groups running around which can make stroller navigation extra hard. Sept can be just as hot but the tour groups are largely gone. Even the nights tend to be hot around that time of the year...we tend to joke that in late summer, when the sun goes down in Disney it just gets dark, the temp stays the same. Personally I believe the biggest potential problem an Aug or Sept trip might surprise you with is this....these two months are peak hurricane months and the conditions that kept hurricanes from hitting the southeast last year are NOT going to be present this year.

First thing is...NO I would not go to Disney in August. I do not like stifling extreme heat and humidity. You couldn't give me free dining and a 30% room pin to get me to go in august. I especially wouldn't take a baby out in that kind of heat. A 1 yr old in 95 degree heat? That just sounds like a miserable sweaty time for the little one, and for the bigger ones. There's no way I am going to spend 6 grand on a trip and then go and be super hot, sweaty and miserable the whole trip and be constantly looking for shade or air conditioning or other ways to cool off.

September weather according to Google can be almost as hot as August and just as if not more humid. October however the temps drop down to mid 80's and late October drops down to low to mid 80"s with lows in the 70's. Still warm enough to be beautiful weather for the parks and warm enough to go to the water parks.

Lower crowds because all the kids are in school. You can avoid the big MNSSHP at MK by avoiding MK on the day before and day of Halloween. Avoid Epcot on the weekends because the F & W crowds will be there.

October is not the cheapest time to go as far as room rates but it is not the most expensive either.

Hey and welcome to disboards :) We went in August last year and we had a good time. Yes is was super hot but we stuck with our schedule of getting up early, break at the hotel around 12-3 and back for nights. I thought some parks were worse than others too. Magic Kingdom was fine, they have a lot of indoor rides and shows that were great for the quick cool down. Animal Kingdom was super hot and that day was a bit rough. We live only a few hours outside of Disney World though so we are a bit use to the heat if that is even possible.

The crowds weren't too bad that I remember. We were able to do most of the rides we wanted to do, can't think of anything we missed. I would do it again if I had the chance. School starts Aug 11 here so no August trips for me this year :(

Good luck deciding though. We took our daughter during her birthday and she had a blast with everyone telling her happy birthday and singing to her. Just that extra Disney magic :wizard:

My guess is it will be hot. I'm going for the 4th of July and when I went the same week a couple of years ago it was almost too much. Actually saw a couple of people overcome by the heat while waiting for the parade at MK.

LOL that would be us! We're Canadian and have thick blood, so the heat kills us. Only went once in September and can honestly say never again!

But since you went in June and had a great time, you should be fine. :goodvibes

We were there in August last year for the last week of free dining. I didn't feel it was too hot, but we left behind 105 degree temperatures in Texas that week. We also took the hottest part of the afternoon (2-5 ish) to take a break and hit the pools, just like we take that time off here at home.

You will be soaked with sweat five minutes after leaving the room no matter what time of day it is. You will need to drink like a bottle of water an hour.

We normally go in August. Mine and our youngest son's birthdays are two days apart (14th & 16th) and we like to celebrate at Disney. We also live in SC, so we are use to the heat and humidity. We go early, come back to the resort for a break...then go back again later in the evening. Stay hydrated, take breaks and do indoor dining/rides and shows and your family should be fine.
