to Disney? Let me explain, we survived Charley and 6 days without electricity...but I feel like I cannot do that again. And now it looks like another storm is coming, this time from the ocean. We practically live on the ocean. Anyway, Dh & DD were staying at BWV Sunday, I was not planning to go cause the baby is so young. However, with this storm approaching, I'm thinking of adding Fri & Sat to the trip and going along. I will freak out if we are out of power again. Not planning on taking baby to parks, of course, what do you guys think???Thanks!

In your situation, with a storm coming--yes, I would. I took my 6-week old daughter on an 8-hour drive to Massachusetts and visited family members for about 5 days. DD is now 13 and, in looking back, I would say that she was probably better behaved on that little trip (at 6 weeks) than she's ever been!! Honestly, she slept most of the way in the car, was content to sit around, and was very portable and restaurants and such. Now, at 6 months the get a little harder to handle.

I had some friends who won an award to WDW in March. They had a 6 week old baby, and just didn't want to leave him at home. So, they took me along as nanny. He did great. Loved Imagination and the monorail. I just took it easy, made sure he was in the room for a few naps, and didn't ride many rides. He was a great converstation starter (that's great for me since I am bad at starting converstations with strangers). It was a little hot, but he was fine. It's amazing how much help people offer when they see you have an infant. I was alone with him a lot and appreciated the CMs extra care when getting in and out of parks. He never cried and really enjoyed the lights, colors and atmosphere.

I say, go. Enjoy the mornings and evenings outside, and spend the heat of the day indoors. Work off of the baby's schedule, and you'll all have a relaxing, enjoyable break.

usually 1hr 15 min...but if I wait until mass evacuations it will be much longer! A few years ago it took 6 hours to get to Orlando during an evac.

Friends of mine faced the same issue recently. They were planning to adopt and a baby become available within a few days! That would have made him 4 weeks old for their trip to WDW and cruise. I advised against taking the baby on the trip and the pediatrician agreed. Part of my concern was for the baby's immune system which was that much more fragile due to formula v. breast feeding.

In your situation, I'd consider it since you are saying you do not plan to bring the baby to the parks. I would be extra careful to de-germify any area that the baby would come into contact with in the hotel room, and plan for the most part to keep him in the room most of the time. I would only take him out if he was able to be where there are not many people and limit contact to the family members he would have contact with if he was home.

No. I have to tell you, anytime I go to WDW and see people with REALLY tiny babies, I get a little frustrated...they're not going to remember the trip, and being in the heat/sunshine is really hard on them!

Oh, I do not see why not. Especially since you are not planning on taking the baby to the parks. Might even be a nice little break for you and DH, (restaurants, housekeeping!).

Just keep in mind though that after being hit by Charley here, we are looking at Frances pretty anxiously as well.

Let's see, the options are to hang out at home with a 6 week old baby and fret about another hurricane, or go to WDW and hang out in the hotel and take it easy??? Since you're so close to Disney and right on the coast of Florida (where a hurricane could be a major danger) I'd say hang out at Disney. You're really not going to pay any more for the hotel and food costs will not be bad.

I'd say go to BWV and soak up the atmosphere!

I would, especially since you're so close! I'll be flying cross-country when our baby is four or five weeks old, and I'm not looking forward to that. But Disney - heck, you could just relax in the hotel the whole time! And not have to cook dinner.

You read the OP, right? She is NOT planning on taking the wee one into the parks, or even out and about too much. Just trying to get out of the path of another storm.

I say GO FOR IT. It sounds like you have all been through enough already with Charley.

yes, I probably would.

It has been my experience that smaller infants travel better than older babies who are particular about when and where they take naps and sticking to a set feeding schedule. Tiny babies will pretty much sleep almost anywhere in their carriers.

Keep him out of the sun, newborns can't use sunscreen.

I agree -- it sounds safer than being in the path of a storm or waiting at the last minute and getting stuck in evacuation traffic jams.

Normally I would say no too. We saw so many miserable,crying, hot babies a couple of years ago in May and once in June that I quit counting.
But in your situation I would say go and enjoy the hotel and then you don't have to worry about riding out a storm or evacuating by yourself with a little one. I'm sure you can find some shade by the pool to get out and relax.

I would in a heartbeat! A lot of babies go to Daycare at 6 weeks. I know my 3 nephews and my 1 niece did. Not really much difference in daycare and WDW or a WDW hotel room as far as germs and such go. If you do go to the park with the baby there are a ton of places you can sit in the shade and also you CAN go back to the hotel.

Go enjoy it and who cares if the child doesn't remember it? You will!!!!!

I would go for sure! I would also consider going to the parks first thing in the morning and/or in the evenings. Just not in the middle of the day due to the heat. But you live in Florida, so you know that. I don't know that I could be at WDW without going into the parks at all.
