Would you switch all your family's drs if you could save $100 a month?

No question for me. I would not be changing. My time and personal relationships with doctors are more important than the 100/month.

I agree completely. We have in the past choose the higher premium with DH's health benefits just to keep the PCP's and Specialist we already had. No amount of money could replace them. I couldn't put a price tag on the trust I/we have with them.

Nope. Never. No way. But I am in love with my Drs. My kids have had the same ped since they were born, oldest was 14 years ago. We have her home number and we have been to her house in an emergency, you just don't give that up. My OB has delivered all my kids and did my hysterectomy, and DH has a wonderful cardiologist. They are all no less than 10 miles away. In my situation, they are priceless and no amount of money would cause me to switch.

But I will say this. I am a nurse and have chronic health problems of my own (lupus, ugh!). I wouldn't switch from a doctor that knew me and that I liked for $100 a month. But.... I also have the $100 and health issues. My hubby is retired military and we have Tricare (military health insurance) and for years we had the same internal medicine doc at the closest base, he was a civilian contractor so didn't get moved or deployed. We drove over an hour one way to see him but he KNEW us and we trusted him. Then he changed jobs and we started getting active duty guys and we had (no lie) five different doctors assigned as "our" doctor in two years. So, we switched to a civilian guy much closer to our house and now instead of free visits we pay $12 copay for each visit (not complaining I know that is cheap) and the money is worth it because he knows us and we trust him. It sounds like noone in your family has chronic health problems so I think for you the question is - do you want to stay with your current docs enough for it to be worth over $1000 bucks a year to you?? Like I said, I don't think there is a right answer - but I still vote for keeping the docs you know and like ;). Good luck and stay healthy!!!

If no one in my family had a chronic condition that they were seeing a Dr regularly then yep I'd switch. I have switched several times in my life.
$1,000 a yr is a good chunk if all the other aspects of the benefits are the same except for Dr's.

My family (DH, DD) and I are covered under my health insurance plan. Our rates are going up of course. Right now the plan that we're in, we can go to any drs we want. If we want to stay in that plan we'll have to pay $100 more a month.

We can switch to a plan that covers only certain drs for the same as what we're paying now ($275 every 2 weeks). The only thing is that none of these drs or hospitals are in our hometown. The nearest ones are about 20 miles away. There is a small general practice clinic 10 miles away. Also not to mention the fact that I've been going to my OB/GYN for over 12 years, DH has been going to his dr since he was a kid, and DD has had the same pediatrician since she was born.

Would you switch everybody's drs to save the $100 a month? (That's $1200 a year!) We're seriously considering it. We all only really go to the dr once a year. Although I've recently found out I have a low thyroid levels and will have to be tested in another 3 months. We just don't know how much more we can afford for insurance!

Everything else about these 2 plans is the same, except the cost and the drs you can see. What would you do? :confused3

I would switch and then use the $1200 savings to pay for the once a year visit to your out of network Drs.

We still haven't decided. The thing is DH does have a couple conditions he's had for years and has been seeing the same dr. So it would be a little difficult for him to switch. I haven't had anything until recently I started taking medicine for hypothyrodism and will need to have a blood test in 3 months. So we both have some issues. DD is fine and healthy. I have 2 more weeks actually to decide, but I'm hoping to decide by the end of next week! I've been trying to ask people what drs in the other plan they like etc and doing some research. We'll see.....:confused3
