To school in this case?

The last day is tomorrow, it is 2.5 hours long. There are NO teaching materials left in the building as it is being remodeled. In fact kids and teachers MUST be out at 10:30 because the demo crews come at 11:30.
Her teacher is going to cook pancakes, which is a very nice gesture, then theyre going outside to play.

I figured why bother :confused3 She has no interest in going at all. Both of her siblings are out of school as of today so it isnt like they would be going to school.

So would you send your child in that circumstance?

FTR, I went in early today and told the teacher and had her go around and say her goodbyes and make sure she had all of her stuff. Teacher is fine with it. She will be back at the same school next year anyway

I really wouldn't care one way or the other. If your kiddo wanted to go, great go, but if they're not doing anything school related at all and she really doesn't want to go, and the teacher is fine with, then I'd say that's fine too. Have a good summer!

I would send my kid. It is a fun school related activity and a chance to spend time with friends and classmates before the end of the summer.

I just didnt see the point in having school for 2.5 hours. Im sure its just a numbers deal but dang! How annoying, really. One of her other teachers said "Yeah I dont get it either" :rotfl:

So she is happy to be staying home and I am praying they all decide to sleep in for once because that would be AMAZING! :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

I wouldn't send her if she didn't want to go. My kids have school for 1 hour the last day They pick up their report cards and that's it. I live right by the school so they go but I wouldn't force them if they didn't want to.

I'm surprised she doesn't want to go! My kids wouldn't miss the last day of school for anything, even though they only go for a half day and do nothing! The last day has always been a fun day for them!

I would send her, but that's me. I'm sure she won't regret going, and would probably have fun eating pancakes with her friends.

My kids have the same type of thing... they are going.

Know what I am going to do? Drop them off, go get a massage, and then go pick them up. I typically work Fridays, but I am going to switch around.

If she's up for perfect attendance, then absolutely I'd send her.

If that's not the case, then I'd probably send her . . . unless she really protested, and then I'd probably give her her way. I wouldn't turn it into a battle.

mine starts school at 8:10 thursday morning and is released at 10:25. she will spend as much time riding the bus to and from school that day as she will in school.

she's protested but it's not up for discussion. it's a school day despite the length of time.

No I would not.

I am a teacher :teacher: and I would keep my kid home just as a favor to my kid's teacher. It is SO much easier on the last day when kids are absent...yes, even the well-behaved children!! I have so much paperwork to get done and materials to pack on the last day it's almost unbelievable. Instruction is not occurring on the last day at all. I often wonder why parents send their kids at all ....except for those that need the babysitting.

So no, I would not be sending my kid. I always let mine stay home on the last day anyway.

Well, I tend to be rule-follower. If school is scheduled to be in session, my kids will be there. I also think the last day is important for closure. It's good for the kids to spend some fun time together and say goodbye for the summer. We're making Rice Krispy treats, watching a video and playing outside on the last day in my preschool class on Wednesday. There won't be any instructional time at all. But the kids will have fun and we'll get to say goodbye to them so it will be worth it.

This year was the first year I let DS stay home on the last day. He was so glad to be finished with elementary school. His teacher was telling the kids in so many words not to show up. It was obvious she didn't want them there because she said whoever came would have to do worksheets out of the "extra practice" basket all morning long. I found out that only 6 of her students showed up and they were wandering around the school campus no knowing what to do (a few of them showed up in my DH's classroom).

On the other hand, my DH teaches at the same school where the last day is really a special time for him to spend with his class. Each year his classes become very close because he does a great job at fostering a community of friends. Every year he has only one or two kids missing on the last day (usually because of a family trip or something). His students WANT to be there. They don't want the year to end. They cry -- the whole class cries. They sit in a circle and watch videos of the year (they do a lot of filming all year long) and talk about fun times. They order pizza and just enjoy each other.

So, it depends on the student and how much they like their teacher and how much the teacher wants to give them a good send-off.

I also teach but don't have students the last couple of days because I teach in a pull-out program. So I was lucky to be able to pack up and clean.

I would leave the decision up to my child-I wouldn't care either way. If she wanted to go I would send her, if she wanted to stay home, I would let her.

in our district the last day of school for the kids is not the last day for the teachers.

although the kids get out at 10:25, the school (and the teachers) are there until 2 p.m.. the school/teachers also have regular hours schedualed on friday.

the teachers therefore have about a day and a half to get everything wrapped up (and with the exception of the high school grads whose grades had to be done by staff a week prior to last week's graduation, the rest of the graded work-non finals-had to be assigned such that it was turned in before finals which started last thursday/end tomorrow. the grades from finals can be submitted by the teachers as late as friday p.m. though most have been posting them on-line within 24 hours so we can see our kid's final grades a couple of weeks before the physical report cards are issued).
