Would you send your kid

I would leave the decision up to my child-I wouldn't care either way. If she wanted to go I would send her, if she wanted to stay home, I would let her.

Last Friday was our last and I only made them go because they had awards that day. Otherwise I'd let it up to the kids.. I'm sure mine would want to go because they are crazy and like school and miss it already...

YES! It's your last 2.5 hours of freedom for the whole summer!!!! ;)

Teachers don't have paid days after school here either, but I would be heartbroken if my students didn't want to come the last day! I understand if they have vacation plans, transportation issues due to the short day, etc., but I would hope they'd want to come for the farewell stuff. When I'm working, I teach younger kids and consider the stuff we do on the last day to still have educational value. Typically, we read a story, make a memory book, share memories, sing favorite songs and recite favorite poems, play a game, have a treat, do some room clean up, and declare them official members of the next grade. Sometimes we have an assembly and I have to do some of it the day before because there's not enough time, but I try to save the very end of the year stuff for the last day and teach valuable stuff right to the end. It's a little more relaxed and fun, but still valuable!

Last year I was a specialist and it was boring because none of the teachers wanted to give up their kids for the last few days - they had stuff to do!

I did let my high school son stay home for the first time last year and probably will continue that through high school. Like others have said here, the teachers don't want them there. I strongly disagree with what the teachers are doing, but sending my child would almost be punishment in this case.

Yes, it teaches them that it is their responsibility to be there even if there is not a good reason...there will be many more times in their lives that this is the case and they should be learning the right thing to do and you as a parent should be using the opportunity to set this as an example.

No I would not.

I am a teacher :teacher: and I would keep my kid home just as a favor to my kid's teacher. It is SO much easier on the last day when kids are absent...yes, even the well-behaved children!! I have so much paperwork to get done and materials to pack on the last day it's almost unbelievable. Instruction is not occurring on the last day at all. I often wonder why parents send their kids at all ....except for those that need the babysitting.

So no, I would not be sending my kid. I always let mine stay home on the last day anyway.

Yep, my kids teacher has pretty much told her kids, you can come of you want, but you will have to help me finish moving, so I would stay home if I were you. lol

OK, you have got to be kidding. I am sorry but this is the most absurd reason I have ever heard.

I guess that is what's wrong with me, I participated on senior skip day, yes it was unauthorized, heck my mom even lied for me. No wonder I am an irresponsible good for nothing lazy bum. Wow, the things you learn.

I would let her decide.

FWIW, from the school's perspective, that day counts toward AYP, and low attendance will count against the school.

Yeah me too. We must be delinquents!

Every year in HS our basketball team went to State, if you paid $5 for a ticket you got to skip 3 days of school, whether or not you were driving the 5 hours to go to the game. There were probably only 30 kids that went to school those days.

PS: I was not one of those in school, although I did go to the other town I didn't actually attend the games

No, I wouldn't.

Our last week is like that, the kids go in for 2.5 hours each day but they don't bring their report cards home until the very last day, if they got them at the beginning of the week I wouldn't bother sending my kids (if they didn't want to and the teacher was OK with it).

Here the last day of school is only an hour long and the day before it is an assessment day (staff only, no students.) My kids have always gone on the last day of school.

Yeah - it's a "fluff" day where the kids get treats and say their good-byes for summer. But if no-one goes to that last day, then the second last day becomes a fluff day, and then the second last day, and so on. Pretty soon the last month of school is a write off.

M.

No I wouldn't. This kind of thing makes my head explode. They only have the kids come in for the state aid, at least where I live. If there was anything vaguely worthwhile going on, I'd send the kid, but this is just a waste of time.

I see my kids' time as having some value.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I say skip if she wants, but it is an illegal absence.

But I also want to comment that the "teachers" that have responded saying "we don't want your kids here either we're too busy?????", Really Irked me!!

That is Not what any parent wants to hear from their childs educator/s!

And I don't want to talk about the 84K gym teacher that has the HS kids sitting for this last week of school, cause theres "nothing left to do" ...:eek:either, okay, rant over!

So, lets hope there are many more educators that are doing what "Disykat" is doing/feels, and to all the deserving teachers, THANK YOU for your hard work, it IS appreciated!:flower3:
Me....I love having my son home, more "relaxed" for the summer, but thats just me....:lmao:

who are you going to turn your excuse into on the LAST day of school? :confused3

Eh I let my son skip school to watch a new backyardagins that was on... I'm sure he'll be in juvie by the time he's 13

I just didnt see the point in having school for 2.5 hours. Im sure its just a numbers deal but dang! How annoying, really. One of her other teachers said "Yeah I dont get it either" :rotfl:

So she is happy to be staying home and I am praying they all decide to sleep in for once because that would be AMAZING! :thumbsup2:rotfl2:

Well in terms of the numbers game, our ridiculous school district has you beat...DD went to school this am for THIRTY MINUTES!! Argh! The only reason I care about her going is that they get their report cards. It is the dumbest "school day" ever!

Yes, I would. And I don't give a rat's butt about perfect attendance. If they miss, there is a reason and not because I think the day is dumb.

OP, I don't think your children is doomed for juvy if she stays home but I would still send my kids.

If she wwants to stay home, id let her....

But I teach Kindergarten and hope all my kids are there on the last day! We are still working on lessons even though the older kids dont think we should...I am going to miss my kids and we have a lot of fun activities planned for the last day
