Would you return the tickets?

We had planned to visit WDW the week between Christmas and New Year's Day since our son's marching band is performing there. After much discussion--and reading a lot here--we've decided not to go. It would be my husband and my first time there and we just don't feel comfortable as first timers fighting the crowds then. Surprisingly, our 12-year old daughter was fine with going some other time (we do have a lot of fun with Christmas traditions around here!)

I have already bought from Undercover Tourist. I bought 4 MYW tickets for five days just before the prices went up. The total was $1083.80. If I return them I would pay the 5% return fee, so $54.19.

Other detail, when I bought them I completely forgot to use the Mousesavers discount link. So if we wanted to buy the tickets again at a later date, I would remember to use that link and assuming same prices, save about $44 over what I paid before. Essentially, the net cost to return the tickets, assuming I buy again later is $10.

Now, one more detail: we will definitely be in Florida next July for a cruise. It seems like a good plan to do WDW then, since we live in the midwest and it would save travel costs if we do it all in one trip.

One more detail: the $$ I get back would pay for our son's trip (the one in the marching band) He's definitely still going with school.

What would you do?

I would keep the tickets, but that is just my opinion, I go down every year.

Don't the bands do a lot of fund raising? Or do you already know your portion of your sons expenses.

If you really want to sell them, maybe let the band director know and maybe he can get the word out you have tickets for sale. I know when we go down with our band, I had 4 kids in band, it seemed like our whole town went down and many families rented condo's or homes, so maybe you can find someone that needs tickets.

I'd just keep the tickets for a future trip, if you think you'll go again later.

The tickets next year or 5 years from now will only go up....so keep the "cheaper" tickets you already have.

doesnt sound like you really need the cash back/financial issue, so Id keep them.
The tix prices only go up, they dont expire so you'll be ahead of the game, even if you just use them this year sometime. Just one less thing to think about for your trip. I also think that going at a less busy time would beneficial as a first time visitor. have a great time planning and going!

When you go to Florida next summer for the cruise will you have enough vacation time to also spend five days in the parks? If the tickets you have are more than you can use then I would return the tickets and take the $10 loss. You may pay more next year, you may not, but you won't have to worry about getting stuck with 4, 5 day tickets that you don't use.

Exactly. Maybe that much per ticket. It's a savings, sure...but it's not worth losing a minute of sleep over.

I'm not following your math at all. You said you bought BEFORE the price increase. Prices went up. The savings with the mousesavers link is minimal, and isn't really going to help make up for the price increase plus the restocking fee.



Honestly? I'd research it like crazy and GO. Your son is playing at WDW! How cool is that? Why not go see that? Will it be absolutely insane there? Sure. Do people go at that time? YES, that's why it's busy. Do people have lots of fun anyway? YES! I bet that it's mostly the people who think "no one will be here, everyone's at home" who get surprised and freaked out and have a bad time. But you know and you can prepare. Sure, there are traditions at home to do, but if your son's not there b/c of the trip, it won't be the same anyway.

At minimum, if you really don't want to go, I'd keep them for July. Just create the plan to include WDW.

(and me being me, I'd use these tickets in late December then upgrade to APs and go again in July when you're there for the cruise.)

Unless you needed that money I would keep the tickets. That's one expense you don't have to worry about whenever you do decide to go next.

And fyi the price of 4 adult MYW 5 day tickets right now is $1120 through the mousesavers link from the July newsletter. So you would be paying more than just an extra $10 if you returned/repurchased especially if you bought after another price increase.

Keep the tickets. The Mousesavers link savings is minimal (is it even $1/ticket?) and prices have went up substantially on the tickets, and would again the next time you got around to buying.

That said, for your first time there I completely agree it would be insane to go at Christmas, especially if you don't handle crowds well (I know I don't). But as others have pointed out, July is crazy hot. Any other time you could go?

I would still go. Do your research, stay on site and use the Extra Magic Hours. You can get a lot done during this time. Make a list of your top things to do and anything more than that is icing on the cake.

I don't remember if you have park hoppers or not. I personally like the option to park hop, this is what we did when we did Christmas one year. We did extra morning hours at one park, took a long afternoon nap (when the parks were crowded) and then did the extra evening hours at another park. I found the extra morning hours great to get things done, if I remember correctly during that time it was opening at 7 am.

The decorations are awesome. Is it crowded, Yes but is it awesome YES- you just have to plan well.

I went to WDW for Christmas week this year and it was fabulous. I'd go and see your son play there in a heartbeat.

I would always regret not seeing my child perform in WDW. It will be crowded..go with the flow and have fun.

Not sure if the Dining Plan is something you would consider when you do go to the World in July...but if you are considering it, or if Free Dining is offered for your stay... You will need to buy more tickets. You will not be able to use the ones you got from UT, (just something to think about).

If you don't go, I'd save the tickets. You know the cost will go up next year anyway, so it will be nice to have them bought, paid for, and out of the way for a future vacation. Hell, I have no idea when my next trip will be, realistically, but I almost bought tickets this year anyway ;p

I've been half tempted to start buying WDW tickets away as baby gifts ;p With price hikes they'd double in value by the time the kid is old enough to go, lol

This is a Disney fan board. The advice will always be keep your tickets for a future trip.

I'll "play devils advocate"

• The fact that you're asking suggests you could use the money.
• Having tickets won't help if you wind up booking a package which includes free dining.

Assuming you want to sell I agree with the PP. See if any of the people going on the trip want to buy your tickets.
