Reading the "Can you rent a car from Chicago" thread, and I have this dilemma.
Keep in mind, I'm planning 18 months ahead of time (October 2013).
Most likely, there will be six or seven of us, five or six adults and one five-year old. Four or five will drive down from the Cincinnati area, two will fly in from Louisiana.
We're staying offsite (hopefully at Wyndham Bonnet Creek).
The two largest cars we own will fit four comfortably and five uncomfortably.
DH wants to take two cars down. I would ride with DH and my youngest DD would go with DGD and her boyfriend.
My question...With gas and wear & tear, would it be cheaper to rent a van from Cincinnati for the week?
We'd only have one vehicle to fill up. Plus we would have four drivers in one car instead of two drivers in two cars. (And that's assuming her boyfriend can get time off for the week...not a certainty since he works for a school district.)
Unfortunately, wouldn't a van get not-so-good gas milage? Both cars we would take gets about 30 MPG.
Actually, the last Disney trip (slightly different set of characters...only four adults and one infant), we took two cars. However two of the adults drove in from Knoxville. So we had four drivers for sure.
I guess I don't like the idea of driving two cars down with the possibility of only three adults. Could we save money? Would we save money?
