Love them but would not pay nor do I expect them.....that being said we do get a bit disappointed if we come back to nothing, but we assume our mousekeeper was just too busy and we are not angry at all.....I know some CM's are more skilled than others at it. In 2007 we had adjoining rooms with another family at the Pop and EVERYDAY our kids stuffies were arranged in crazy ways, one day they were sliding from the toilet down a towel slide into the bathtub, another they were playing hide and seek with one stuffie blindfolded and the others hiding behind pillows and towel stacks. Not a day went by that we didn't have some crazy thing in our room for two weeks. Now on our last two trips we have only had the token little animal they leave in the window, we were not angry even when the kids saw the elaborate animals in one whole wing of the seventies section everyday. We just figured it was someone else's turn for some pixie dust!

And my answer is... nope, waste of money. They are fine and all but not a big deal to me and the surprise of seeing one is what makes it special.

I am also surprised to read so many people take them home.

If everyone came to expect them ALL THE TIME and the Mousekeeping did them ALL THE TIME, it wouldn't be pixie dust, now would it? Part of why towel animals are fun is because you don't get them every single day....

Okay- you are assuming that they are not meant to be taken home and that they are made from brand new towels that are going to be placed back into circulation. When we stayed at the Poly a few years ago, the resort manager along with the housekeeping manager stopped by our rooms to check if we were satisfied. I told them both how happy were were with teh service and the state of the room and that my DGD was thrilled by the little towel lthat was waiting for her. They both told us to take that one as well as any others that happened to be left for her.
Well I knew that there had been a lot of terrible reviews about the Poly prior to this so I did not think it was ordinary, but was happy that they were so thoughtful of a little girl.
FF to the CBR stay. There were tables set up just outside the food court with gals making the animals and then offering them to guests.

Don't mistake a marketing decision that creates goodwill and return customers with folks who steal towels from the bathroom.

Our average length of stay is 7 nights, so that would be $140. Not spending that on towel animals! lol I'd rather splurge on a spa treatment at GF, or a nice dinner at Jiko. Now that's money well spent!

I think people come to expect these things; whether it's towel animals, or "special" time with their waiter at Whispering Canyon Cafe, because they read about it on the Dis or other Disney forum boards.

It's like reading about plane crashes. They don't happen that often, but because you only hear about it when it happens, it seems that a large percentage of planes crash all the time.

Same with all this pixie dust at WDW/DL. You read about a few people who got towel animals every night, or hear about someone's child being picked for the Jedi Training, and you assume that this happens to everyone, or that it's expected on your vacation. Same with honeymooners at WDW. You'll see some threads where couples got spoiled during their whole trip, and other couples who are planning their WDW honeymoon, will read about all that "magic" that other couples experienced and expect the same thing.

I have read some trip reports where people will actually base how great their vacation was on whether they got pixie dust or not. It's sad really.

Pixie dust is icing on the cake. A magical enhancement. If it happens, great. But if not, well hey.....you're at WDW! Go enjoy yourself!

I have asked, at many resorts, if we are supposed to take them home with us. Yep, they are our gift to you has been what I've been told. Now? I have about 15 of the dang things. We no longer take them home unless they are an unusual critter. They sit around, collecting dust!!

It's a folded towel, it isn't complicated to take apart (unless they make some fancy ones and if that's the case I just haven't seen any like that) and all the towels/facecloths are used so I don't get where you are going with that.

I personally wasn't surprised because of stealing, I was surprised because it seems like a ridiculous souvenir. I can't stand the super adorable stuffed animal clutter we have, let alone a fancily folded towel. If people like them though (and Disney is cool with it) have at it

I never had anything that elaborate, but I could totally see why you wouldn't be undoing such a thing and why they don't have time to be assembling many of these. They must just have them prepped ahead of time if they are glued though... negating the "cleaning the room should take precedence" argument.. interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing or I never would have known they glue them!!

I still wouldn't want to keep one making them super useless in my case lol

While I love towel animals, paying for it would take all the fun out of it. The point for us is being surprised at finding one in the room when we get back in it. I wouldn't even pay a penny extra for that. Looking around and finding one is fun. Expecting one because you paid is lame.

Of course not. But they make the animals out towels and wash clothes that have been in circulation for a while and would most likely be thrown out soon. That's why it's okay to take them home. They would just be tossed out otherwise.

My DGD loved some of the little ones so we had them in the bathroom for a while. I have no idea how Disney's housekeeping service manages time, but there seems to be time set aside for mousekeepers who choose to create the little towel animals.

As others ave repeated pointed out, these are old cloths that have been pulled from the rotation. They are not dirty. These towels are as clean as the ones in the bathroom, they are simply more worn.

Perhaps a few,but that does not negate that Disney clearly supports this practice, indeed has used it as a very inexpensive way to "plus" a stay.
