Would you order your own Bday cake?

OP - I would probably have to DROP hints and maybe even do it myself, too...some husbands need a lot of reminding!

Anyway, I have a related question, since we are celebrating TWO family birthdays at WDW (we'll arrive two days after DS's 7th Birthday and leave the day before husband's 35th!)

So....do you receive a birthday cupcake if dining out if "Birthday" is marked on the ADR or is this not a guarantee? I thought they'd get a cupcake at the meal and with all the other desserts, we wouldn't miss the cake all that much (or could have the "official birthday cake" at home on the official birthday). However, if this is NOT what typically happens, I may need to order a cake or two....

TIA!

I have been thinking the same thing, we will be at WDW in Sept for my bday trip (43th bday). We have been to WDW for DH, DS & DD's bdays and I have gone overboard with surprises for each including bday cakes at dinners and Wishes fireworks cruise. DH has done things in the past to surprise me but not sure if he would think of ordering a cake for my bday either especially since we are on the dlx dining too and have dessert included.

So, my mom was here today to watch my kids since I WFH and I was discussing this thread with her and she says, " where we are eating dinner that night? (CG) " well, if someone else orders a cake and so do you, would they deliver both?" Not sure, so I said probably. She then confesses that she already talked to DH and she was planning to order me a cake for that night since she won't be there this trip. :cake: :love: I gave her the link to the cake chatter thread so she could check them out. thanks, mom.

LOL - Love the subliminal message! LOL!

$25 - yeah - I'm thinking I read a few different places that a preordered, could very well be 6"... personalized cake was $25 and that it wasn't much more than the groc. store version. That's really okay with me, considering we won't be taking it with us and finishing it. For me it's the symbolism and recognition... vs the actual cake. :)

I've seen some REALLY nice cakes on one of the cake thread a cool winter-themed one was around $100 at CG. Definitely fairly priced in my books as I know how much time and money it can cost to make cake 'art.'

Now would my hubby pay $100 for a cake? Uh... um... yeah, I'm pretty sure that would be a "NO!" LOL! He would think that is insane for something you eat in 10 mins. It's not ART to him.

I DID get a cake for my birthday this past Oct. as I reminded him about DD's expectations. He got the $5.99 cake AND DROPPED IT! :upsidedow LOL. Happy birthday to me! I just shook my head and remained unsurprised. One day she'll be old enough to pick the cake or guilt him into a nicer one.

Janloz -- I am so glad you are getting your cake. Moms ARE the best. Mine would have so done that for me. She lived with us for a couple of years and while she did - I HAD a Cake for my birthday! :) :lovestruc She will be with us this trip in spirit. Sadly, she passed away in April last year. Kindly, she left me some money that is making this trip so easy for us to take and so special in so many ways. She knew this was always a huge dream of mine and to also help provide this to her granddaughter at such a magical age would have made her so happy.

Neverland - I've heard that a lot of times birthday cupcakes are delivered - often at every meal...Table service and buffet. But it can be sporadic. Not sure if you specifically ask if they would definately deliver one, but it sounds like although most waiters will serve one, many times it is missed. That's just what I've read here... I don't know from personal experience.

I too am spending my birthday in WDW. I have gone so far as to order a cake for pick up at Olivia's, order a birthday basket complete with balloons, steamers, favours for the kids, fancy plates, etc for a complete birthday in the room. I have no problem ordering my own cake--do it every year. I know my DH loves me, this is just more my thing. He always comes through with a great gift! As for your plans, why not do a cake in your room during an afternoon break? That's what I'm doing since my year old twins are a bit unpredictable at restaurants. We are going to Tusker House for brunch that day and then later in the day we'll decorate the room together and have a big celebration. I think my DD, 6 will really get a kick out of it all. I ordered a basket from memories by betsy and it have loot bags for the kids in it. Happy Birthday. Have a great time!

We're going in less than 2 weeks and not celebrating anything (other than being there again...) but I want a cake and I'm having one (even if it turns out to be one of the small Mickey Heads brom Boardwalk Bakery!!) It's something new, and I'm always on the lookout for those!!!

If you want a birthday cake order it, then tell your husband "I went ahead and ordered my birthday cake so you don't have to worry about it".

I'm going with my kids for my 40th and husband will not be with us. I have told him I expect him to order a cake and have it all written down and pictures of what I want, with the date he needs to start dealing with the chef. Luckily I have a 13 year old daughter who will make sure it happens, because she wants it as much as I do!

Order the cake and then go give your DH a kiss and tell him "thank you for ordering my cake" or "thank you for paying for my cake" whatever works...sometimes we just need to do these special things for ourselves!

Here is another option with Disney Florist! Order one to your room and enjoy it throughout your trip!

I certainly would. I am hard to please so if the one I order doesn't come out to my specifications:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I can only have me and perhaps the chef lol to blame.
