Would you let your teen daughter dress like this for Halloween?

Would you allow your teen to dress in one of these Halloween costumes?

  • Yes, but only because it's one day and I don't want her ostracized by her peers.

  • No. There's no way I'm letting my little girl out of the house looking like a 'ho.

I would have to see it on HER first.

It is a shame to say this...but it kind of depends on how she is built and how she carries herself.

The costume itself doesn't reveal that much, it is how the girls are made up, the hight heals, the bed tousled hair, fishnet stockings etc.

I'd be okay if it didn't look over the top ho-like on her.

My neice ordered a costume lilke that last year and I was freaked out...till I saw it on her. She is a petite, flat chested thing and it looked cute, not slutty, on her.

And none of it, and I mean NONE comes close to suggesting anyone's child here deserves to get raped. Frankly, that's a disgusting accusation to casually throw out on the board with nothing to remotely back it up.

If you don't like how it makes you look, maybe you and a few others should re-think the way you have been making your point about the girls who would wear these and the parents that would buy them.

As it stands, I think Turbokitty was on to something. Lots of girls get the "she looked like she was asking for it" treatment from people.

Those costumes look very trashy to me, so no I would not let my daughter dress like that. I really, really hope the day never comes when she wants to wear that garbage.

Sorry if not everyone wants to be prim and proper on Halloween, myself included.

Thanks for backing my point here. I've been trying to get it across since the beginning of the thread, but no one cares.

This thread has inspired me to "slutten up" my Halloween costume this year.
:cool1:

yeah, sure, why not?

It is Halloween. Halloween is the one time you can be ANYTHING you want to be, and IMO, that includes those kinds of costumes.

::yes::

Apology accepted.

There is middle ground here not just "prim and proper" or "cheap and trashy"
If trashy is your thing, hey knock yourself out. :confused3

No one cares how you dress for Halloween. The question was "would we let OUR daughter dress like that for halloween" - I don't think you are a bad person if you dress like that on halloween. But my daughter won't be dressing like that.

No, I don't need to re-think what I said. However, YOU need to read what was actually said rather than use your twisted mind to come up up with whacko conclusions.

Right. okay. You wrote;

What I DO know is that there was a direct correlation between the girls who dressed that way in their high school. Those girls were generally the ones who were sexually active, and often times at a younger age.

Please illuminate me as to what exactly you were trying to say there... I'm also trying to figure out your point about the "bad cheerleader" and how it reflected badly on the wearer and her parents, yet a 7 year old in a smaller version of the same costume was A-ok. You say I am twisting your meanings, when I am only reading what is in front of me. Help my whacko mind untwist the conclusions you led me to...

And, finally, before I bow out my exact words were "possibly molested or worse" in regards to "she looked like she was asking for it" treatment from people.and not;

So I'll thank you not to try to put words into my mouth.

It would be over my dead body that she'd walk out of the house looking that.

Most of those would be okay without the thigh-highs. I don't think visible thigh-highs are really appropriate for any teenage girl.

Good grief. So how is "possibly molested or worse" different than raped? Molesting a child isn't rape now?

The girls at my daughters' middle school and high school that dressed trashy were generally the ones that were sexually active very early. That's exactly what I meant. Generally means just that. It doesn't mean all girls who dressed conservativley were virgins, and it doesn't mean all girls who dressed trashy had multiple partners when they were 13 or 14. Generally and correlation mean just that.

Do I have to explain why an outfit on a 7 yr old is different than the same outfit on a 14 yr old?? Really?? If I do, honestly please let me know and I'll explain.

Now how in the world are any of those statements implying these girls deserve to be molested or worse? That's just sick.

I'm not a parent, but I am a teenager.

I did not vote. If you had a "yes" or a "no", I would have. It would depend on age and maturity level of my daughter. A 17 year old girl going to a costume party, I could handle a few of them. A 13 year old girl, no way over my dead body.

:thumbsup2 You go, Sparx!

A mature and wise post from a mature and wise teenager! :)

I'm not a parent but I am a 16 year old.
If I had a daughter, there would be no way that she would be wearing that because I see first hand how girls who wear this stuff around this time of year are treated and talked about. I would die if I heard the things that I hear said about my daughter.

It depends on the age of the teen. If I had a 13 yo 8th grader going trick or treating - no. If I had a 17 yo HS senior going to a costume party, maybe.

Yep exactly what I was going to say. :thumbsup2

The talk of perverts and *****s, etc in regards to a Halloween costume seem more inappropriate to me than the thigh-high stockings do. As parents, our judgements rub off on our kids.

And, the way some of these ideas are going, they seem waaaaaaaaaaaaay too close to the "she was asking for it*, just look at the way she was dressed", *with the it part of that being molested or worse.

All I can do is try to make sure my SON doesn't grow up to be yet another skeevy pig and not worry about what your daughters will be wearing.

Why is it inappropriate? Last year while we were out, a group of girls walked by dressed as Dorothy (the sexy version) Bo Peep and something else I can't remember. This group of guys - not teens, probably the dads of some of the kids trick or treating - were making highly inappropriate comments about the girks after they passed. I can't fault anyone for not wanting some creepy guy checking their dd up adn down and saying something like "oh yeah, I'd hit that...". There are pervs out there, and it would piss me off if I saw someone looking at my girl in that way. I think parents should just use good judgment, make alternations to tone it down as necessary, and if you do decide to let you dd wear a costume like this, talk to them about your concerns.

Leave it to the DIS Teens to be the voice of reason.
