If you watched "Dead Like Me" she could just dress in normal clothes and be a reaper. Nobody would get it though and she might get Taco Bell hot sauce in her bag instead of candy.

FYI you misunderstood me. I said that because many posters have said "sure why not...its Halloween". I don't care if it's Halloween - my daughter wouldn't be allowed to wear this period.

The talk of perverts and *****s, etc in regards to a Halloween costume seem more inappropriate to me than the thigh-high stockings do. As parents, our judgements rub off on our kids.

And, the way some of these ideas are going, they seem waaaaaaaaaaaaay too close to the "she was asking for it*, just look at the way she was dressed", *with the it part of that being molested or worse.

All I can do is try to make sure my SON doesn't grow up to be yet another skeevy pig and not worry about what your daughters will be wearing.

My daughter is allowed to dress as something she is not for halloween. She can dress as a pirate, an angel, even a devil. She does not need to wear a skirt up to her bum to dress as these things. A girl does not need to be inappropriately dressed to be dressed as something she is not. Whether she is dressed as herself or as something she is not, she can do both in an appropriate manner.

If she wanted to go to a party as a ***** (happy now?) as in a prostitute , I would not let her. I would also not let her go as anything else I find disgusting, like a nazi, or a KKK member, or a drug addict.

I'm pretty sure none of the OP's costumes were a prostitute. As far as I can tell, they were a Kitty, Red Riding Hood, Lil Bo Peep, Sailor, Mummy, Pirate and Vampire.

And for like the thousandth time, the skirts look shorter in the picture than they actually are. No one's butt will be hanging out of anything unless it was altered.

You're right. The prostitutes I've seen in my life have always been dressed as pirates, little red riding hood, bo peep, and kitty cats.

The cat one looks similar, but the skirt on it seems longer. I can tell you, the Red Riding, Bo Peep and sailor ones have longer skirts, down to mid-calf (I know because I own some the are made exactly like this) from the same company. The mummy pretty much covers the entire body, so I surely don't see the big deal in that. You can see some skin through but for a 16 year old, it's not more skin than bikini would show. Plus no privates or cleavage is showing in that one so I don't see the big deal. The pirate one shows the midrift, A LOT, and I can see where some parent's would have a problem with that. However, again it's not more than a bikini would show. The vampire reminds me of the three I listed together and I'm willing to bet that the skirt on that goes down to mid-calf as well. Yes in the pictures it LOOKS short, but I can tell you from personal experience with these products that it's NOT that short. They lengthen the models' legs to make the skirt look shorter, it's a timeless Photoshop trick that MANY MANY catalougs and magazines use. Maybe you are concerned about the cleavage? Well I'm a C and there was absolutely NO cleavage, even with a push-up in those costumes. So I had to stuff my bra to fill it out!

I'm with you. I thought they looked pretty mild compared to what I have seen on teens. I would not have a problem if my daughter wanted to wear one of those.

I imagine it could be the same parents who think it's acceptable for their teen girl to wear short shorts that say "juicy" on the butt. These girls are exposed to this crap more and more in mags, A&F and other retailers, and society in general. And we wonder why the pervs are coming out of the woodwork.

OH Dear God. Do you have any idea how many of my friends were victims of date rape in college? Just because I want my daughter to have some modesty, has NOTHING to do with how I feel about victim rights or womens rights. It was a HUGE presumption. Manner of dress ENCOURAGES or CAUSES all men to denigrate to perverts? Whoooaaa you didn't read what I said evidently. If your kid wears this she's having sex?? Yet another huge leap from what I said.

And none of it, and I mean NONE comes close to suggesting anyone's child here deserves to get raped. Frankly, that's a disgusting accusation to casually throw out on the board with nothing to remotely back it up.

I'm not a parent, but I am a teenager.

I did not vote. If you had a "yes" or a "no", I would have. It would depend on age and maturity level of my daughter. A 17 year old girl going to a costume party, I could handle a few of them. A 13 year old girl, no way over my dead body.

I also speak from experience. I had my share of teenage sex and only once did the girls' parents think their child was sexually active (had got her BCP's).
