Hello! We leave in THREE days!!! I didn't even sleep last night I'm so excited.

Anyway we are making last minute plan changes/firming things up and I had a couple of questions from those who have been to these restaurants.

For starters, we are currently a couple of ADR's over our allowance, so will pay cash at a couple of places (MM, Via) and aren't typically huge eaters.

Ok we currently have a 12:15 ADR at Hollywood and Vine that I'm considering cancelling. When I booked it my son still watched Jake, loved Handy Manny, and knew Doc McStuffins. He just turned four last week and while he still LIKES those characters - it's definitely not his favorite. He is Buzz Lightyear 24/7. And by that I mean - quotes the movies all day, and if he's awake - he IS Buzz Lightyear. I'm starting to think that he might be happier if we just go to Pizza Planet. I could keep the ADR until the day before but if we aren't going to keep it I'd rather release it with enough time for others to grab it going at the same time. So what would you do in this situation? Go to H&V anyway? Or skip it, knowing he might be able to meet Jake elsewhere if he wants (I think) and just go to Pizza Planet. I won't be eating there, but my DH and DS will be more than happy with that pizza.

The second one I'm thinking about is Crystal Palace. We have a pre park opening on one of our MK days, which I'm excited about. However, is it worth using the credit for breakfast when the only reason I booked it is to get into MK early? My son does not and has never cared about any of the characters there. And my husband and I aren't really into meeting characters - just doing the character meals for my son.

Our other ADR's are:

Chef Mickey (B)
CRT (D)
Tusker House (L)
Tutto Italia
LTT (just for a snack - not using a credit)
1900 Park Fare (D)
Mama Melrose (D)
Via Napoli (D) (And possibly a lunch too - one will be cash to share a pizza)
Ohana (D)
B&C (Snack)
BOG (D)
Cape May Café (B)
Garden Grill (D)
Sci Fi (D)

(Will be either GG or Sci Fi - they are for the same night - we have no idea what park we will be in that day).

So what would you do?

Thanks!

I'd probably keep Crystal Palace. If you don't care about the character meeting you can eat and be out the door. I'd keep it for that purpose alone. I'd probably drop Hollywood & Vine and go with Pizza Planet for two reasons. First, as you pointed out, your little guy is SUPER into Buzz and second, I thought the food was awful and I wouldn't recommend it.

It seems like a lot of sit down meals to me and we're more into going in the parks, but you know your family best. :)

I understand your dilemma. FWIW, you will have several responses that will probably be different. Always go with you 1st instinct.

With that being said, your son will only be 4 (young) once so mke the trip as memorable for him as you can. H&V is the only place to meet Doc McStuffins and Handy Manny. Who knows how long they will be there. GG vd Sci-Fi. My family prefers GG, Sci-fi was too dark for daughter. She wasn't scared, but says she doesn't have to go back either. But also depends on which park you are in. I hope the helps.

Have a GREAT vacation.

If you're going just to see Jake and you're on the fence about if your son really loves Jake that much, then cancel and just play it by ear.

Go to the Disney Junior - Live on Stage! show and let him see the Jake puppet there. Then if he seems interested enough, stand in line to meet Jake outside the theater.

I'm not sure why, but the H&V character meal is the least enjoyable one IMHO that we've been too. At least at Crystal Palace there are some unique food choices (breakfast lasagna and puffed french toast)

Now with Crystal Palace, I'd keep it only if an empty Main Street picture was on my list of must haves. Otherwise, I'd drop that one and be there for rope drop. The opening of the park is really neat. My kiddos loved seeing Mickey on the train.

Hope that helps and I didn't just add to the madness of your swirling thoughts.

I've finally had to just STOP making changes. We leave out next Friday!!!

One of the previous poster's was right - you're going to get a million different opinions.

We LOVED H&V. We were there when it was Jake, Manny, June, and Oso. And we're kind of heartbroken that Oso is gone :( For our little guy, it was amazing! The singing and dancing and marching around the restaurant - he was in heaven. And we thought he would be too shy to participate!

Like most people will probably say, I'd keep CP for the pre-park entrance (I couldn't get one for this trip and I'm totally jealous!) The characters, we though, were not the best for interaction and the food was ok. But we loved getting in ahead of the crowds - just for those few minutes of peace and quiet to absorb where you are while you walk to the restaurant and stop at the photographers :)

We ended up canceling our pre-RD CP when we were in WDW. We had too many early mornings and my daughters were getting really wiped out. Our photos on Main Street and in front of the Castle were grey, even with crowds behind us. That was the only reason we booked it.

I meant our photos were GREAT, not grey!

Thank you all for the responses!!

I have heard that about the food at H&V. I've mostly read that you should go if your kids are really into it, but otherwise skip it. I can only imagine my son if they had a toy story character meal! He'll just have to wait in line for Buzz and Woody!

And it's WAY too many sit down meals in my opinion. We've never been as a family and I don't even remember going when I went, but we got "free" dining, so tried to get a lot of character meals. We are planning on going back next year with my inlaws and are definitely do not plan on the dining plan again. But we'll see how it goes! My guess is mid week we might be canceling more than I think :)

Thank you!! I think you are right - I probably just need to figure out what my instinct is! :) I think I'm leaning towards canceling it. We are lucky though in that we have a long trip so we have two days at HS, so he'd get to do Pizza Planet either way. Tough decisions (first world problems obviously).

We will be there at the same time! We are going for 12 days. Crazy! I keep reading a lot of people say it was their least favorite for various reasons. My friend that we are going with (at the same time - not doing same things) loves it and thinks I should keep it. We are definitely planning on doing the Disney Jr. live on stage - I didn't realize it was puppets though! I do lean towards thinking the pre park opening is worth it for CP.

Thank you! Is June from the Little Einsteins? Oh he likes that show too....hmmm.. That's funny you say that about the dancing and stuff, b/c I assume my son won't participate, so maybe I'd be surprised! He's not shy really but not a huge joiner to stuff like that if he doesn't know the people.

I love the idea of seeing the photographers b/c we did buy Memory Maker package and I absolutely love pictures, so that's a great point!

Thank you again! I think I'm going to youtube some clips tonight of the Play and Dine lunch and see what he thinks. If he seems interested we'll keep it at least for now, and if not I'll cancel it!

This is what I'm afraid/thinking might happen. We are there 12 days (though might not be in the park all those days) and have a lot of ADR's. This breakfast is about mid way I think. I told my husband maybe at that point we'll see what pictures we've been able to get and see what the rides have been like and decide then. I do love people's pictures of the empty street!

You could do 50's prime time cafe instead of scifi .

He might like playing the games at pizza planet it's nothing really special just a pizza place!!

At Hollywood studios you got take him to the Woody and Friends character meet I am sure he will love to meet Woody and Buzz it would also make great photos too , I would make or get him an autograph book to get Buzz's autograph!!

Faith, Trust, and..PIXIE DUST.

A warning that Pizza Planet isn't even a tenth as awesome as the Pizza Planet in the movie.
