Embarrassing the children. Just one more service we offer!!!!!!Marseeya said:HEHEHE! Well, that settles it, I'm going to have to make them up or get them for DH and me! I think that girl got hers at Aeropostale (sp?), and I'm fairly certain their sizes don't go above medium, right?![]()
Hey, 4GBLC, do you want me to come talk to your wife? Maybe I can get her on board with the ironic tee shirt club. Or should we call it the "Fatty Tee" club???![]()
Ooh, I just thought of another bonus. This will surely mortify my kids!![]()
Marseeya said:I can definitely see where someone might get that impression, but I assure you it's not the case with me. I can't speak for others, but the overweight people I know feel the same way.
For me, it's all about mocking and poking fun at a society that believes that the measure of a person's worth is in the size clothing one wears.

And throw in a good portion of envy for not being able to have the dedication and discipline to get and stay in shape.
And I must also remark that I hate the term 'Pooh-sized'. I'm always asking myself if people would call themselves 'Shamu-sized' if this were a SeaWorld-board![]()
Now that society has nearly won its war against smoking, it should turn its attention towards fighting obesity.

I don't know enough about Shamu to make a comparison. Have they made a character out of him? Is it an intelligent character?ITA with this. Except maybe the high-five part.disneymom3 said:I love it! LOVE it! If I saw you at WDW, I would give you a big smile and maybe even a high five. I love that you are comfortable enough with yourself to pulll it off, too.
You go girl--don't let the skinny chicks get you down!

I have a very heavy friend who watches what she eats and works out at least 4 times a week. I have never known her not to be on her way to the gym or having just gotten back from the gym. I have another friend who eats very unhealthy and eats lots of fast foods almost daily. She rarley works out but occasionaly will walk. She is the first one to admit that it annoys her how many compliments she gets on being a size 4. She really has done nothing to be a size 4 and will admit that too.
You can not always judge a person upon their weight. Sounds like you haven't done your homework. There are all sorts of chemicals in the brain that cause some people to be more hungry than others and other forces at work that cause obesity. I could go on but this argument gets tiring.
Please do not judge others unless you have walked a mile in their shoes.
Has she walked a mile her shoes - that is, if she fits in there
The OP did exactly that: She judged a person because of here weight - respectively lack of it.Marseeya said:I would love to see society turn its attention towards fighting obesity, but only if we can manage to do it in an intelligent and dignified manner, and by attacking it medically, and with plenty of support. There's enough shame associated with being fat without the attacks and disgust people show towards the overweight. And let's face it, that's how we battled smoking -- by making it a stigma and making smokers feel like second class citizens. Having quit smoking after 20 years of doing it, I know discipline and dedication quite well, but quitting smoking and losing weight can't be compared at all. Apples and oranges here.
I love the term Pooh-sized. Pooh is a sweet character that everybody loves, and I think it's great that people here have picked up on it.I don't know enough about Shamu to make a comparison. Have they made a character out of him? Is it an intelligent character?

How comes that it is obvioulsy OK for an XXL-person to make fun of an attractive person.Has she walked a mile her shoes - that is, if she fits in there

You'd better do your homework. Then you would know that only a very small percentage of obese people is overweight because they are sick - But a lot of of obese people are sick because they are overweight.
All that talk about hormones or being pooh-sized is the same behaviour as an alcoholic denying that he has a problem.

irishbosoxfan said:I was actually going to reply to your first post of being envious of a skinny person drive and determination as being incorrect--lots of overweight ppl have drive and determination(notice I omitted the word obese)--There are many factors involved in being overweight the same as there are in being skinny----First and formost GENETICS,many are given what they have to work with--Second SEX be they male or female because as we know females are more prone to be overweight than males are and there are reasons for this also mainly the ability to give birth and to do so on more than one occasion and to go with that nurturing.
AS for you comments in this post about people being sick because they are overweight you sort of do have a point but again many diseases suffered by overweight people are also suffered by skinny people but with different base causes---And the comment about comparing overweight people to being an alcoholic is a bad analogy---Alcoholics constantly deny the existence of a problem whereas overweight people KNOW that there is a "problem" and choose to deal w/it in a myriad of ways-be it they are comfortable being the person they are OR have on numerous occasions done something to lessen their weight and may STILL be in the process of shedding pounds--
As for telling someone to "DO THEIR HOMEWORK" you should sign yourself up to that class because at least then you may have some! And along the way you may actually learn something that may be worth repeating!
