you'll have to make up your own mind -- but here's what happened to me.

I met a guy I liked. over dinner on our first date we're talking about some of our mutual interests. he happened to mention an author my ex husband likes to read. he was very surprised when I knew the author's works. as we continued to talk we discovered that he actually knew my ex and my former sister in law. although I use my married name, it's a fairly common one, and he hadn't realized my connection to my ex when we first met.

you ever hear the phrase "loose lips sink ships"? the guy talked far too much. told me stuff about my ex and my former SIL, told my former SIL stuff about me. I found myself censoring what I told the guy.

DAte him. I dated my ex's ex-roommate. Well it didn't last but two weeks, but at least I got it out of my system.

The only time I wouldn't date someone is if they were a friend of mine's ex. My girlfriend's ex husbands and boyfriends, that is, would be off limits to me. I've seen it happen before and I've seen friendships end over it, and I don't think any man is worth losing one of my good girlfriends over.

But this is your ex's friend, not yours, so I say go for it.
