Would you buy the top to the swim trunks?

I am going to get the boys new swim trunks from the disney store. should i get the top to go with it? I think they were called rash guard tops or soemthing. We have never used them before. Normally we put a tshirt on the boys when the sun is really strong and we are in the pool.

We live at the beach and I could not function without rash guards for my kids. They don't soak up water the same way a t-shirt does - much more comfortable and they offer good sun protection. As long as they will get more than a few days use, I would buy them.

I've always purchased them. Our summers can be quite brutal here, so I very much like the SPF 50+. My child is by far in the minority on wearing one, but I think they are great. He's NEVER been sunburned. I generally only put sunscreen on before we go and that is it.

I recently went to a dermatolgist to discover that an odd looking mole was cancerous. We removed it early, so no big deal. I'm certain that all those years of being outside as a child with no protection caused it. I can't justify not spending $15/year to prevent that from happening to my child.

As far as swimming, it has always worked beautifully in the pool and ocean too. I think it helps keep them cool in the hot weather as well. Just MHO.

Very good! Thanks for the advice. We live in PA but we have our own pool so they do get use in the summer time. Are they tight fit or more like a lose shirt? I will buy them. Sunburn always worries me too for the same reason.

They are loose fitting, but not so loose that they ride up over their heads in the pool or the waves. Love those shirts. I read somewhere that a Tshirt, especially when wet, doesn't offer nearly as much SPF protection as you'd think it does.

i ordered! this is my first ever order from disneystore.com I got both boys new swim trunks and the swim shirts, and a beach towel to match the swim trunks. The swim stuff is shipped free with code. I ordered them both a rat. tshirt and some rat. toys that were on clearance and I got them both some PJs on clearance. It said my total savings was over 40 dollars. Today is the last day for the Goofy code I think. Now I just hope everything fits. That is what I hate about ordering clothes online.

I love rash guards, both my daughter and son use them. I like it because I don't have to be as careful about not missing any spots when doing the sunscreen (since they have SPF built in). We just do the face, ears, back of neck, arms and legs. We usually buy them bigger (although they're meant to be a tight fit) because it can be a chore to pull the wet rash guard off if it's a tight fit. Oh, they're quite the norm when the kids go to the swimming pool and I would say it's very common at the beaches as well. :rotfl:

This info is great! I may buy them this year. I hate the thought of a t-shirt on while swimming. Wet, icky etc. If these shirts dry fast and are not uncomfortable I may get them for the kids. Do they still need sunscreen with them?

My son has been wearing one since he was 2. A great thing to have in the sun. They dry very fast also.

We bought some at Target the other week. We have never gotten them before, but we are coming to Florida in June this time (usually in the winter months) and I wanted extra protection for them in that hot sun. I finally found some at Target for a good price and they are 50 SPF.

We bought some for the whole family from c-wear in Australia a few years ago. They were 100+ SPF before they changed the SPF guidelines - now they're 50+ but it's the same coverage.

I love mine - it's long sleeved, and actually keeps me cooler in the hot sun once it's wet! They do dry, but not as quickly as a bathing suit alone - which is a good thing, in my opinion! They're also good when it's chilly but sunny and you still want to be on the beach but not swim - they block the sun, but can help keep you warmer too without feeling like you're over-dressed.

C-wear has a lot of options as well - they're a little more expensive than, say, Land's End, but they're high quality, and apparently very popular in Australia where the sun's a lot hotter than in the US. At my last physical, my doctor actually commented on how healthy my skin was, and I mentioned them to her, and ended up giving her the URL so she could get some for her kids!

There are rashguard options available at a lot of places - we need to replace my DDs as she's finally outgrown her shirt and we're debating C-wear again or just going with Land's End - but I wouldn't dream of swimming outside without one now.

Land's End makes great swim tops. They even have adult sizes now for those who are fair of skin or generally more modest.

They also hold up great. You can hardly tell Ds worse his at all last year, yet alone daily for a few months.

There are short sleeve and long sleeve styles, but we've only used the short. I'm considering going with long this year. Well, actually, I know Ds will fit in last year's tops again this summer so I guess what I'm wondering is if the long sleeve are better in some way.

That is a good point about them being harder to get off when they are wet since they are a tight fit. I might have to return it and order my youngest son a larger size. He didn't try it on yet because it is from the Easter bunny, but the one I ordered looks like it will be too small. He normally wears a 3 right now and the swim shirt is a 4.

We get ours at Old Navy. DS5 and DD8 don't swim without them! DD wears hers with a bikini type bottom!

I am sunscreen crazy - so I still apply underneath. I put sunscreen on my kids, inside the house, 20 minutes before we are going to the beach - then I put their bathing suits on. I'm not as religious about reapplying sunscreen in the areas covered by the rash guard as I am with their legs, faces, etc.

The rash guard should fit like a slim fitting t-shirt. I know the disney jammies run small so it would not surprise me if their rash guards run small too.

I live here inFL, so yes, get the tops, especially if your coming down to FL May-Sept!! THere great, you dont have to worry if ya put enough sunscreen on there back and chest areas..plus hats are great too...its very sunny, and they keep the kids cooler too!!

I will never go another summer w/o rashguards! We went to Hawaii last year for spring break. We are very fair skinned and I wanted extra protection for my DS7 and DD 4. We used them every day and put sunscreen on the exposed areas. I was literally amazed! My daughter balked a bit at first, but I told her she'd look like a surfer girl, and she was fine with it. when we came home w/just a hint of a glow, no peeling skin, my friends and family were very impressed as well. I was a naughty girl in my younger days and laid out by the pool w/no sunscreen to get a savage tan, and now guess what! Sun damage! so anything I can do to protect that precious perfect skin of my children, I'm going to do. If you're reading this and have any doubt, I promise, they are very worth the small investment!

Anyone know where you can get the rash guard shirts for boys without the mock necks?
